*NEW* SRK FeiLong Strategy & Match-ups

Trust me I play Juri as my secondary, her pokes aren’t as good as Chuns. St.HK isn’t a problem because Fei doesn’t use lows from a range where her st.HK is effective. Her movement speed is ass so she can’t play footsie like chun so you’re free to out maneuver her in that regard. Fireballs are her best poking tool but you can duck the MK and HK ones and EX CW gets through them if they are careless with the timing because of the charge giving them away.

She does have good anti air but you can beat her on the ground. So, Ideally if people practice the infinite enough. One mistimed fireball = death. One correctly guessed throw attempt = death. One blocked st.lp > tenshin = death. She can’t make any mistakes and really has to limit her play in order to not risk dying to Fei.

With that said, anyone got tips vs Honda? Seems like you can’t really punish LP headbutt anymore, it pushes out so far EX rekka whiffs. It’s ok to zone him out but I mean if he has life lead or he hits you with one random cr.LP with loaded super the whole round is fucked. Just seems like he does too much damage and has a safe reversal.

I’ve been fighting a pretty good one and it’s been back and forth. If I can get a lead and zone I win but if he gets a lead or just lands something random into assloads of damage, he’s got the round. Neutral jump HP makes doing rekkas really unsafe it feels like.

I play her as well and i still disagree with you but w/e lol…

yeah i don’t like this match up either. I find myself trying to rush him down and get him in a corner which helps but getting him there is a pain in mine assholes.

Huh? lp headbutt is still punishible by MP/EX rekkas if you block it standing.

Yeah just tested it, did you have to block it standing before?

Also MP works as opposed to EX for punishment? That’s good to know.

yeep

So I played a lot of Sagat vs Fei tonight. I’d say the matchup is even or maybe even 4-6 Fei’s favor now. The damage boost on Fei and the damage nerf / health nerf on Sagat just makes this so much easier. Tiger knee feels much easier to punish now too.

Honestly I haven’t fought any matchups that I just wasn’t straight up not familiar with yet (Honda) that have felt all that hard in Super. Fei is really good!

Sagat is still one of the best zoners of the game, how can this matchup be even remotely on Fei’s favor?

if you don’t get hit with fireballs it’s not bad at all lol.

That combined with you not dieing in 2 combos makes everything a lot more manageable.

Juri MTUP

I don’t see one anywhere. Could anyone happen to point me in the right direction?

Those threads haven’t been made yet, probably because it’s too early to see where the new match-ups are going. You can discuss match-ups here though, no problem with that.

General consensus is that this match-up is 9-1 in Fei’s favor thanks to the infinite. Without it, I still don’t see Juri as a big threat as her pinwheels are unsafe, her projectiles are not particularly scary (due to slow speed, lack of range, and the recovery on them), and without EX her wake-up options are highly limited, especially against cross-ups (even with EX her wake-up options aren’t very threatening either). With a slow walk speed, you can expect her to be very jumpy, especially since her Dive Kick can get her across the screen very quickly.

Her pokes are 4 frames minimum from the “Far” range (far LP, LK, etc.), with only her close LK at 3 frames. This means that at jab range, your jabs should have priority over hers… Need to test that one though. Outside of jab range, her pokes are more dangerous to contend with. Her “counter” isn’t particularly useful since it doesn’t guarantee damage as its possible to recover before she is able to strike (depending on the move you use). It can also be beaten by armor breakers. EX Dive Kick can be very unsafe on block, especially if one of the kicks whiff; other forms I’m not too sure about but if you block them, there’s nothing she can do to guarantee damage.

Her hit confirms are about average damage and if they end in LK pinwheel, they won’t knock down (meaning you don’t have to worry about wake-up shenanigans).

I can’t give an accurate rating for match-up yet since I haven’t faced any particularly skilled Juris. I’m just going by the basics of what I’ve seen thus far.

Small thing. Her mk and hk pinwheels do in fact knockdown. Nothing major, just correcting something.

I had a pretty close match with JTO’s Balrog from ATL today, was pretty frustrating. Fei HAS to get life lead and turtle in that matchup it feels like. If you have balls of steel and can stick to your gameplan it’s winnable but man… still not good for Fei… in fact I’d say Balrog and Sim might be Fei’s worst matches now.

His zoning isn’t that threating for Fei because Fei can handle him fine in close now and really… his poke game isn’t scary as he can’t play footsie at all. Getting past the initial barrage and getting him in the corner is the goal of this matchup but not as hard as other zoners IMO. It was never an issue of tools but only the sheer damage difference the two characters had between each other. Now that Fei gets 40% off DP punishes and tenshins, as well as Sagat having less life and less damage, the matchup is just more forgiving. This went from a Sagat that would beat me 10-2 where now it has flipped almost completely in the opposite direction. It’s really not bad anymore.

I faced a decent Juri online the other day. Got pretty beat all over the place. My main mistake being that I never punished her dive kicks with a flame kick or HP/HK of my own. Not sure if a CW could punish her well on this, but since the hit on block for the dive kick leaves her pretty open I would assume pretty much all attacks against this are safe.

You’re right about her pokes though. Another thing about her cartwheels is that only one or two of them are unsafe for her at close range. Not sure which ones. I’ll have to test that later or if someone else already knows then they can post it.

One thing they got me on was throws. The safe cartwheels at close range punished my blocks with a throw. Don’t know if there’s anything safe for this yet.

As far as I can tell though from what you’ve said and how that player stomped all over me. It’s pretty safe to just keep your distance from Juri and wait for her to make a move you can punish. I suppose if she got to close you could always punish with CW as you said her walk speed is slow and she is jumpy. Plus I believe CW easily armor breaks her counter move.

Any more info on this would be greatly appreciated and thank you very much for those who have contributed.

on side note: 9-1?! In Fei’s favor?! HAHAHA Ridiculously awesome!

I was playing against a Dudley last night, (a not very good one at that,) but I noticed something quite amusing. Backdashing a normal machinegunblow on reaction, then activating ultra 2 works so well it’s delicious. All the punches will whiff, then the last uppercut will reach far enough to activate it. Just thought I’d share that.

I wouldnt say in fei’s favor, from my experiences agaisnt good sagat’s during ranked matches I would still say the match is 6-4 agaisnt fei. Although to be clear, I think sagat’s advantages are marginal in the respect that he doesnt dominate fei but simply has more effective tools…being able to combo into a ultra also helps a lot.

As far as other matches are concerned, the only ones really sticking out to me as being 6-4 or even possiblty 7-3 agaisnt fei are blanka, rog, guile, sim and possibly DJ. I think fei is viable and competitive this time out, but he does suffer agaisnt good zoning characters or any characters with good defensive options.

Yeah if I had to do a matchup chart for Fei I would say:

(first number is fei)
Sagat 5-5
Blanka 5-5 (could be blankas favor but I’m not convinced it’s just not a “different” matchup like Sagat)
Balrog 4-6
Sim 4-6
Guile 5-5 (sucks at range for fei but sucks in close for guile)
DeeJay 5-5 (same as guile)
Honda 4-6
Geif 4-6
Seth 4-6

On the other hand though, any matchup Chicken Wing defeats a big majority of their options, Fei has a good advantage. Particularly lately I’m finding Fei rapes Gouken and Viper pretty hard. They don’t have a lot of answers to him in close or mid range. I know it sounds dumb but it some matchups you really just have to play dumb and WHORE chicken wing in order to see just how hard it is for certain characters to deal with. The move is ridiculous now.

As far as new characters I’d say Fei does well vs most of them. Cody, Guy, Adon, all 3 third strike characters, Juri, Hakan. But I do feel Fei mains need a good secondary for tournament play. I’d rather not deal with the iron fortress matchups like Balrog and Honda if I don’t have to.

Yeah fei does well agaisnt the new characters (DJ being a possible exception but its to early yet), the only ones who worry me from the new bunch are cody and guy…they just have lots of great options lol. Blanka seems hard at first but it really just comes down to punishing, once u have that figured it isn’t that terrible. On the other hand, the hyper defensive rog or shoto annoys me to no end…and guile is just a very annoying bitch lol. There is 1 match that kind fo scares me though, a good rufus:crybaby:

Cody and Guy aren’t a problem. Fei can zone Cody out really well and out pokes him. Guy loses to down back really badly. Guy is probably my second best character right now so I should know lol.

But yeah run mixups are unsafe and can be blocked on reaction and you can just duck bushin flip and he can’t do anything to you… anti air as soon as he drops the elbow… it’s got a weak hit box. His standing pokes are his best asset but I think Fei’s are probably better. Just don’t challenge him air to air lol. Also no EX meter means he’s free to rape. Oh and if you want to add insult to injury, counter ultra makes run and flip completely unuseable.

Dude, Chun-Li has the best normals in the game period. Juri’s normals are kinda… eh.
