Well this is from IPW… That isn’t representative of a large Fei playing base is it? I feel that when the Japanese tier listings come out we’ll have a better idea of where Fei stands. Also, wasn’t Cammy nerfed for the most part? There’s no way that she can be better than Fei now. The match-up was like 5-5 in vanilla when Cammy could do 300 damage from a DP> FADC> DP. Now, her damage output has been reduced while Fei’s is the same. Also, Fei can punish any special of Cammy’s for pretty big damage, without meter.
Guy doesn’t seem 5-5. His game seems pretty gimmicky and his DP doesn’t leave too many options (if any) after it hits. His running and flipping approaches don’t seem very effective against Fei in general, and his damage output is nothing to be afraid of. I’ll can justify that Sakura is 5-5, but I agree that it should be more in Fei’s favor. Her mix-up was fairly stale in vanilla after you got used to it, but now she has a solid cross-up game and a much better Ultra (for anti-air or combos). With a longer-range fireball she may be able to play a slightly better keep-away game. All in all though, Sakura has to play close to Fei to do real damage and that fireball isn’t going to keep him out for very long (if at all).
Dhalsim, T-Hawk, Cammy, Sagat, Zangief, and (4.5-5.5) Ryu are the bad match-ups now. I’ll believe the T-Hawk and Gief predictions since the guessing game is still a bitch to play with those two. Dhalsim is also a much better zoner now too; I’m actually surprised it’s not a worse match-up. Sagat and Ryu may need some more time before we commit to saying they’re out of Fei’s favor since Fei can put some serious hurt on Sagat with that BnB (only 2 punishments/jump-ins/Tenshins/etc. needed to win that match) and Ryu just isn’t his usual self…
Looking at the table though, everything seems about even for Fei. worst match-up is a 4-6 which he only has a handful of. Everything else hovers around 5-5 or is in Fei’s favor at 6-4.
[EDIT] Japanese tiers also place Fei at a C+. I guess the overall rank won’t mean much in a few months, but as long as we keep our 5-5’s, 4-6’s, and 6-4’s I’m happy:
lol It’s more along the line of they didn’t really change his damage output so he’s average now intead of below average.
@Nosone: While Cammy’s DP damage has been nerfed, she’s otherwise been improved overall (s.HK recieved a significant range boost). Ask most people who mained her from last game and they’ll say she’s improved overall. Sakura I’d say is still pretty much the same. AA was never a problem with her in SF4, it was damage output and anti-pressure. Her fireball is still crap and she can still be OS’d to hell on wakeup all day.
Also fuck the tier list, it’s still way too early for it since a bunch of characters still don’t have notable players to give solid input.
Ah good to know. I don’t know how her changes will affect the match-up, probably because I haven’t played any Cammy’s that have fully adjusted to them yet. Lol I’m just happy about that DP nerf
John4p: Thanks for the correction there. Yea, 5-5 seems about right for Ryu.
One thing I hate about this move from person to person to online is the lack of training partners. I find myself losing (kinda purposely) a lot to the new characters or heavily adjusted characters because i want to see what they can do so i don’t go in and annihilate them.
With the loss of player match it’s really slow doing more practical training (messing around with moves to see what beats what).
I remember back in the day where me and a friend would just practice in a way that lets us understand properties of moves. Nowadays with my training being online it’s hard to reach an understanding with the other guy to just look at move properties.
Early predictions from me would say rog, cammy, gief, hawk, blanka, honda and chun could be 6-4 agaisnt fei. I suspect sim could very well be a 7-3, but I guess we will need more high level interaction before that can be verified.
Bad matchups:
4-6: Sagat, Viper, Dhalsim, Dudley, Gief and Hawk
4.5-5.5: Rufus
Good matchups:
5.5-4.5: Dan
6-4: Honda
In my opinion Viper should still be 5-5 (she hasn’t changed from SF4 and is 5-5 in the old SF4 Wiki http://www5.atwiki.jp/koko100/pages/160.html) and Guy&Sakura should be 6-4 in Fei’s advantage.
Have any buffs been made to the new Viper? I recall the devs talking about her cr.MP being more useful, but I haven’t seen anything particularly different from her. She wasn’t a problem in Vanilla–she shouldn’t be a problem now.
I’m not too sure about Dudley yet. Yea he’s a good close-range fighter but his lack of a good aerial approach makes me wonder about him… I feel like you can just Flame Kick> FADC or CW yourself into a reset to avoid any big damage/mix-ups from Dudley. Anyone have thoughts on that match-up?
Yea . his super and / or ultra set ups from a uppercut are just plain sick. CW is risky, go for safe jump set ups. Dudley’s footsie game is a weakness of his, fei has an advantage with c.mk pokes.

I don’t see how Dudley matchup is in favor of Dudley? is it cuz of his combo-ability? his dmg output? He has no footsies, he needs to get in close and Fei’s got the moves to shut him out. Plus, isn’t he easily baitable to U2 cuz of his strings and what not?
Yeah, I’m also not seeing how Dudley has a 6-4 matchup against Fei Long, who has a decent reversal and a much better footsie game than Dudley. I guess I could see it being 5.5-4.5 because of the damage differential, but 6-4 is a stretch.
As a Cammy player, just a quick note: Gyro Drive Smasher is not armor breaker, it only does a lot of hits. Guess it doesn’t change the fact that you can’t Focus, but for other reasons it does have it’s aplications: for example, Juri’s counter works on Gyro.
