New Samurai Shodown coming 2017!

Details are scarce but it’s 3D models, 2D gameplay, and an anime adaptation to go alongside it!

How credible is hadoken.net?

They have been around since before sf4. They used to be crazy good with updates and scoops. They did slow down after ssf 4 AE and i even forgot about them. But they seem to be back on foot over the last few months. They have broken down some scoops and seem to get exclusive access to capcom stuff like the udon street fighter comics. I think they are pretty reliable.

All we could do is wait and let time tell.

I’ll be interested if true. I don’t have much experience with Samurai Shodown. I would play SSIV all the time in a local laundromat and owning the Japanese copy of SSVI. I sucked at both.

Well shit, it will be nice to finally play a SS game that aint fucking using that crusty ss4 engine

All i ask is to make the game dark atmosphere like 3 and 4, and avoid it looking and sounding like ss tenka

Oh, this would be so damn hype. I remember playing SS2 all the time back in the day. It’s been awhile, but it’ll be nice to see SS make a return.

I pretty much would just want an Okami/Xrd looking game that feels like Last Blade 2 but plays like Samsho II. But again, we’ll see. As long as it’s more like Samsho II overall without having that throw into dial-in-a-combo from Samsho IV, which found its way into Tenka through the Samsho IV groove.

The one thing i hated about post ss3 ss games was the frame data, pretty much everything is super unssafe and super risky, i hate how most lows did fuck all damage for huge huge risks.
That’s the one thing i liked about ss2 is that lows did good damage and could be safe to, i hate that about 5sp, where everything is kinda a rock paper scissors thing, i mean why attempt to go low if you’re gonna lose 30% just so you can take 5% just made no sense to me

I would like for this new game to have the same presentation as the Hyper Neo Geo Games and Sen. I feel those games have the best presentation in the series even though Sen sucked ass.

I liked the portrait art in Sen. If only the in-game graphics actually reflected that art style though.

It has been ages since i playeyd a new samsho, i would be really interested on a new entry of the series, if this rummor is true it would be interesting to see what approach will SNK take for the game. Seeing the nivel of effort that they have put on the last 2 KOFs makes me have some faith that at least they will try this time to make a good game.

Though i wouldn’t mind if they actually improve the gameplay a bit, i am not a samsho expert but i always felt that the old games were kinda clunky, specially SSVI

How would it feel like LB2 but play like Samsho? I am honestly curious here.

I would love for a SamSho that looked like Xrd. But I don’t want a SamSho that plays like Last Blade; they’re both great games but the much smaller focus on combos in SamSho is part of what made it so damn unique and fun.

While i agre that they should focus on what made samsho its own game and expand from there, but i think that the game would benefit greatly if they at least give it a little tiny more combo potential.
The later installments felt very dry and dated when compared to other games due how little you could do outside poking.

Then you wanna play Tenka, which had that bit more combo potential without being SS4.

I just like how normals come out in Last Blade and how responsive button inputs felt. I wouldn’t want the game mechanics/system mechanics of Last Blade 2 though. Pressing C+D for throw in or B+C for unblockable/universal overhead felt easy/fine whereas pressing A+B for Heavy Slash in Samsho II felt like I had to be perfect otherwise I screw up.

So I want the general game feel of LB2, but the mechanics of Samsho II. So of course I wouldn’t want a Deflect button or to have small jumps or a Speed Mode or any of that. I do like the feel of how normals come out, how it connects with the opponent’s character on hit & block, and the general aesthetics of screen shake/sound effects/etc. of how moves are sold in LB2. I do like stuff like the huge hit stop of stuff like Haohmaru’s heavy slash across the Samsho series and in CVS2 in terms of aesthetics and feel, but over all Samsho has (of course in my opinion) an archaic, gritty feel to it which isn’t present for me in Last Blade 2. Even Samsho 5S and Tenka have that feel for me as recent as they are, as much as I like Samsho as a series. It’s weird and almost arbitrary to describe since I don’t get this feel when I play KOF98, and I only feel it a bit when I play games like Fatal Fury Special or KOF95 but not as stark as Samsho II. Hope that clarifies it.

I guess since Guilty Gear is the spiritual successor to Last Blade in my eyes, I guess another way to say it is that I hope that the new Samsho has the game feel of Guilty Gear but has the system mechanics of Samsho II (and the general fact that sword normals are negative on block.) So although doing attacks feels responsive and intuitive like Guilty Gear or Last Blade, the overall system of the game is Samsho II fundamentally: no huge combos, negative on block sword normals, emphasis on whiff punishing, big floaty jumps that could be easily anti-aired or air-to-aired, variety of movement tools like walk/run/crouch/crouch walk/roll/duck/etc., and other Samsho II defining traits. I wouldn’t want Samsho IV throws nor the ability to do the dial-in-a-combo mechanic which builds meter easily.

Sweet.just hope it looks nothing like kof 14

The idea of a new SS!

If this and the anime stuff is true, maybe all JP companies should give the Chinese their IPs. They are really making power moves, I wish them all the success in the world.

Shakes head I’m just going to drop more and more 2d games am I?
