edit

ok so its not THAT big

Hey damdai, I just tried this and I am very impressed. Congratuluations on doing such a good job. Your rapid update speed is especially impressive, and I am glad GGPO has some competition.

Here are some things I think might be improved upon:
-Allow someone to be in multiple rooms at once. The reason for this is that I see everyone in the 3s room. It stands to reason that if you see no one in the game you want to play, you probably won’t join the room in the first place. So it seems 3s is sort of a congregation point. One might be open to challenges from multiple games, for example.
-Allow one to set a default room to join. Perhaps this option is already there, and I missed it, but it would be nice to have. And if you implement the above, a set of rooms to join on startup would be great.

Finally, I noticed there was a bit more delay in this than in nfba. Granted, I only played a few matches, but it seemed noticable in all of them. I missed inputs as well. I’m not sure what you could do about it, but I just wanted to let you know. A lot of people are saying this has great delay, but my experience wasn’t as good. There are a lot of factors involved in this but I thought I would throw my experiences in there as well.

Best of luck. Looking forward to the ranking system.

About the rating system:

Ratings are calculated daily. It is a system designed to promote playing against a wide variety of players, as well as striving to beat higher rated players. Much thought has gone in to prevent artificially inflated ratings. For example, you can not beat the same person 1000 times and expect your rating to increase. You also can’t pick on only weaker guys and expect your rating to increase. On the same token, your rating won’t be hugely affected if you lose badly to a handful of people. The more people you fight, the more people you can lose to without negatively affecting your rating. So don’t be afraid to fight anyone, weak or strong. This system should be used to monitor your personal growth and provide an accurate, wide range representation of your current skill level.

P.S. Ratings will remain at 0 until I finish up the web interface, hopefully by this weekend. But your matches are still being recorded and will be automatically included in your rating calculation once it begins.

just tried it and i have to say, fucking AMAZING WORK. i love it,
just from an end users perspective it is a bit odd, the interface, it automatically took me to a room, kinda confusing but it is easy to navigate, my i suggest

-explicit looking buttons, for rooms and settings.
-some of the pings dont show
-i dont think theres extra need for settings but perhaps, settings for fba integrated in, or linking, such as keymap and video settings? personalised avatar ?

other than that RATING SYSTEM SOUNDS FUCKING GREAT. and country flasg look top notch, great work.

rating wise, i think thats how xbox sf3 rating worked, [i hope its different for different games?] you got a Letter starting from R, going up to A, then S, then SS , XS . There was a system similar to yours where one got more points for fighting player at their own rating or higher.
One point though, with the intro of rating people began to disconnect, close their game as they lost so perhaps player == looses if he disconnects?

Thanks for the input. As far as the ratings, it’s a system in which you can’t just fight weaker opponents that you always beat and hope to improve your rating. If you drop whenever you’re about to lose, your rating will never improve and people will stop playing you. It would also be difficult to determine if someone was dropping because they were about to lose, or if they were just done playing. Whatever the case, I think the current system already prevents this form of abuse. But only time will tell, and if it does prove to be a problem, I will find a solution.

Hey Damdai…how’s 3S working these days?

Same as before. I’ll be adding the rating system to that next, sometime this weekend.

Just played against damdai on this for the first time yesterday. 2 thumbs up from me, and it’s only gonna get better as time goes on I’m sure.

Great set sabin, love that matchup. It brings out all my emotions: :looney::arazz::rofl::sweat::wasted: :annoy::rock:
Not necessarily in that order.

people hopping in and out of the room constantly seems to lag my games. anyone else having this problem?

game over for a lot of people right there (those who play on kb or shitty pads).

not allowing 3p or 3k is plain wrong.

also this “measure” can be worked around with keyboard wrappers (cough Xpadder cough), making people install crap they don’t need and also being tempted to cheat in a lot of nasty ways with those respective programs.

i hope you reconsider or at least buy everyone arcade sticks :stuck_out_tongue:

For some reason it won’t save my replays most the time even after the update earlier. Also any way you can change the sound when you get a PM? I never hear it and people probably think i’m an asshole b/c i never answer them.

Other than that i love the thing. Since I’ve started playing on 2DF I haven’t used anything else to play fighters online. Good job damdai… can’t wait till you get the rating system working for 3s and sfa3.

In my view this is a horrible move for those of us that don’t have sticks. The console versions and even many major tournaments (including Evo) allow these (if the game supports it, of course). There is a reason for this - not supporting these kinds of basic macros limits the community, severely, to people who more or less grew up with arcades and those that have invested in sticks. Newer players will be coming from consoles, and if they can’t use their basic button macros, they might not even bother. I think this antiquated notion of “arcade purity” really holds back the community sometimes. (Consider that we are playing online here, after all, and that everyone’s setup is different. Different stick, pad, converter, etc - all of which can cause control problems.) I am going to have to agree wholeheartedly with Aquashark here - this is going to be game over for many. It’s a major step back.

I still cant get the router port thing to work. I did open it but I still cant challenge anyone. any fix ??

That’s a good point, and I understand both sides of the arguments. A real conundrum. I will meditate about this under the bodhi tree.

shudnt nfba allow use of maping 3 keys to a button, similar to mame?

I think mapping of 3p or 3k would be fine. But anything else - nope.

I tried searching this thread, but I didn’t find an answer. If there’s a question mark where the ping number should be does that mean, that the ping is over 9000 or?
