If it is a ranbat night and you are coming and have a lagless setup, bring it. No bitching even if you have to carry a 50 pound crt.
Make a duplicate/proxy ranking system to play around with point distributions to see which one brings the best results. One major problem from this season was 1 player entered a ranbat for the 1st time and got 1st and ended up getting 1st in the rankings. This should not be possible especialy if it’s the 3rd ranbat of that season.
Kick people out of the rankings if they miss 2 or more ranbats; however, you can put them back in the system if they show up again. Not sure if you should set their points back to the starting point? Test this out. Two people who haven’t shown up in awhile are in my way of top 3.
Do not let people who just walk by fight night join in the ranbat just because they wanted to play some games. You can let them play casuals instead.
5.If your name is called, get your ass up from casuals and go do your ranbat match.
PS3 pad players should bring a converter or learn to play on stick.
If there are a lot of players in ranbat and we are short on time, no going back to the character select screen for counter picks or picking your main.
If you pick a character that will make your opponent bitch and whine, you are disqualified.
If you hold down back or play lame ass keep away for more than 5 seconds, you are disqualified.
#1. Conflict of people’s interests causes this to fail unfortunately … #2 & #3. Point distribution is fine. It’s been adjusted twice already. I think the only thing that needs to change is regardless of point difference, there needs to be some sort of point distribution (basically a minimum limit - like 5). People are already going to be automatically put on “inactive” if they haven’t played a single match in 2 months. Their points will remain the same for if/when they return, just put on inactive and hidden from the list. #4. Who’s to say they won’t come back and join again? #5. Yes. This should be known, but for some reason, people won’t listen. So, guess we need some type of DQ. #6. Eh. Everyone is expected to bring their own shit. If there isn’t a setup for it, so what, not my fault, you should have brought one. #7, 8, & 9. Troll. Nice. #10. Would be fun to have a random game ranbat every once and a while.
I dreamed I asked Seth Killian why they decided to buff the hell out of Doom in Ultimate, when he was perfectly fine in Vanilla. Some lady walked up and said that she was the head of “phase 1 operations.” She said their findings showed Doom being considerably weak in Vanilla. I responded with “BULLSHIT!” and left.
My subconscious is telling me something… to pick up Doom in Ultimate.
My Yun is still farily new and not many people in Memphis scene have even played against my Yun. I haven’t been up there since the tourney since I’ve been super busy w/ work/school.
Another problems is that most Memphis players act like online ranked is the plague and just want to play people on their friends list all the time. It’s cool but I go online to play new people who play diff characters and have different styles. Sometimes people do this then all I hear is bitching like,
“blah blah blah did stupid shit and I lost to it. I would never lose to that in real life.”
Actually, you lost to it then probably would have lost to it in real life. Stop getting mad you lost to someone you “THINK” is worse than you online. THIS IS WHY YOU PLAY ONLINE RANKED! Not to pad your ego and stroke your epeen, but to get matchup experience and see all the stupid gimmicks and styles people have so you can formulate ways to combat those gimmicks and styles and not be surprised by them in the future. Also to just work on improving your gameplay in general. It also forces you to learn to adapt quickly because you only get 2-3 rounds. Play to win but also play to learn.
This. All of that extra matchup experience makes a difference. Playing the same people offline can also lead to habits that may not work against other people using the same character.
It’s funny to see offline elitists lose in tournaments because they don’t play online. Irony?
Ok squab…I won’t help anymore them…ex tornado you don’t do blind…you just aren’t getting the setups I am referring. All these numbers and situations you throw out there assumes the other players knows each situation. They wont. But whatever you have your ways with this…
Giving advice and helping is fine, that’s the whole point of why I brought it up, to see if anyone had any ideas … explaining your setup is fine … but there’s no reason to say I sound ridiculous when all I’m doing is posting what I know about it. Just saying.
#1 - I agree, but only for those that intend to enter the Ranbat for that night.
#2 - This is what needs to be changed the most in my opinion. The ranking system is based too much on WHO you beat and not HOW MANY wins you gain. Anyone can get lucky and beat someone once or twice. The rankings should be based more on consistent victories than just a specific victory. That being said, the points can be setup based on victories you gain in a specific round in the Ranbat. Meaning that if you win in this round of the Ranbat you will receive a set amount of points no matter who the opponent is. This way, it evens out the reward for both players because having a match where if P1 wins, he gets no points because his opponent(P2) is unranked, but if P2 wins he gets a huge amount of points is pretty jacked up. We can talk more in detail about this later.
#3 - I don’t know about kicking people out, but a player missing 2 Ranbats in a row should definitely show in the rankings regarding their points.
#4 - I really don’t know how to approach this yet since we really have no way of knowing who will show up on Ranbat days. At least if we implement the new point system I mentioned above we wont have people playing matches with no point value. Names should be removed after a certain amount of time though.
#5 - Casuals really seem to get in the way a lot, but only when set-ups are scarce. I think everyone that is a regular at Fight Nights needs to get an SRK account and at least check it on Wednesday before Fight Night to know what’s going on. That way everyone that knows they are showing up will be prepared and bring set-ups.
#6 - Everyone getting dual-modded sticks is still very unlikely but unless you’re a random or don’t have a pad/stick for whatever system, BRING YOUR OWN SHIT! It is nobodies responsibility to provide pads/sticks for the needy.
#7 ,8,9 - You must be 21 and up to even scroll past Bison on the character select screen
What’s the point of the whole ranbat system anyway? Does it actually promote competition, or is it just another way for the top few players to say “I’m the best, mang. I did it.”?
The only way I see it being useful is helping in choosing teams at a major, and even then, it could be trumped by character variety.
If people didn’t want to be “#1” then people would be even lazier here about getting better than they already are. At least the Ranbats give people something to work towards that’s local and easily accessible.
Sorry squab maybe ridiculous was a poor choice of words…I just see a lot of character complaints and you know how I get but seriously…use bison on Cody so you can figure out some stuff you may not know…it opens up a lot to see things you may not have seen before via different playstyles…
You said Bison is at least as annoying as Yun - by any means that is ridiculous. Someone wrecking face in a local ranbat does not place Bison near Yun in “tiers” and Cody certainly has matchups worse than Bison. The approach you need to take is not character dependent but player dependent.
Worry about adjusting to the player, keep in mind the things that make it a hard matchup (like “godtier c.lk”) and do some stuff more unorthodox things to keep your opponent from reading what you would like to do.
