NEW NEW TN thread: Mr. Victor Font approved

It’s all good that people are “seemingly” hyped for that Skullgirls game. Unfortunately, I can’t see myself playing it. At all. I mean, you can prob say I’m shunning it like I did Melty at first. But even when I was sleeping on Melty, I still knew that those chicks fucked shit up and the game hit hard. I just didn’t know at all how the system was. And even though I didn’t like the designs, I liked what I saw of the specials, normals, and supers. On the flipside, NOTHING about Skullgirls appeals to me. Sucks but hopefully it’s a good quality game that’ll get played off and on for 2 weeks at least.

Btw, would dudes even be interested in that game if SNK wasn’t covering the whole fucking development cycle this extensively? We all know the answer to that.

Also, just a random thought…noone else besides me and few others think that we need a decent scene for some OTHER game here? Any fucking game besides SFIV or “when you feel like it” Marvel? Like seriously, literally any other game. No matter how old or obscure. Something that at least 10 people enjoy playing, hate losing at, or might wish to learn. Enough to throw another competitive flavor in these gatherings. I’m not going to upset anyone by saying that I don’t understand how you all play ONLY SFIV for hours on end everyday. Mystery, but if that’s your thing, cool. Still, this scene here lacks any sort of variety and this is one of the things I look forward to whenever I get out of TN.

But I wholeheartedly agree with what Jose and others have said. With the scene being primarily or all SFIV, and seemingly “fully dedicated” to this one particular game, I don’t know why more of our guys aren’t just straight raping in tourneys. Coming up short to average peeps in other states that play a handful of other random stuff on the fly. Not trying to start anything or offend, but am I the only one who’s mind has been blown by that shit?

I don’t like being the one always putting stuff out there, especially since I suck and haven’t won anything or been particularly active, but I just want our guys here to be fruitful and shit in endeavors. It’s alot of time invested in these games, and I saw mine as wasted when I realized I wasn’t yet willing to do what was required(nothing magical or special, just doing the research to be able to punish everything and execute at appropriate times aka “robot mode”) along with the decision-making, mental, and risks/creativity to fill in the gaps. That’s pretty much the formula. You gotta be dry, robot-mode alot of times down the stretch, or most of high-level matches until you’re able to create. Wasn’t ready to commit to that so I fell-back. Anyway long story short, I just oftentimes wondering what’s the drive here? Since everyone can tell you anything you want to know about everything and any situation, but then on the sticks, it just…buttslam. Idk…

Omg, long post. Sorry y’all don’t gotta read lol. Just dl’ed this tapatalk. It’s nice.

I’ll teach you how to play 3s some more if you want.

LMFAO!! I hate you.

Y’all know that they are making adjustment in KOF13 so the top tier and combos are not as broke. Raiden and K’ have been nerf but it is KOF after all so somebody is going to broke lol. I just it does get played here (longer than a month), KOF is my favorite series next to Tekken. I doubt it with it being bushes back after UMvC3 and the other popular non-fighters the are coming at that time.

Have to agree with Sev about SkullGirls. Not feeling it but I’ll play, hell it might be good. Never know til you play, right.

Honestly, I think it’s because we have very few people that give enough of a shit to get better … The rest just “play”, never go to tournaments, etc … They are just content with playing at Hastings and that’s it …

Just my opinion tho …

Again, not speaking for anyone else, just for me. I am probably not ever going to be able to dedicate as much time or effort to SF4 as I’d like. Or to any other FG for that matter. But my goals are different. And for the most part I have satisfied them.

I want to play to my own satisfaction. And for the most part I do.

As long as I play to that standard, I’m somewhat happy. I can lose a match, but if i did something or executed a strategy that I had been working on, that’s a small victory.

I know you know, Mike. Life is fucking hectic. And with the finite amount of time I have, I can’t train or play as much as I’d like. But I’m still going to try to give back. I’m working on organizing another tourney for example. Even if I can’t play myself, if I can provide something for people to enjoy and an event for them to get hype at, then I feel good.

Maybe when work slows down a bit, and I don’t have to be on the road at like 5:30-6:00AM all the damn time, hopefully I can get in FG mode again and train back to where I was. Until then, well, I’m just trying to have some fun with it these days.

@Squabb: I think it’s also something to do with well, money. Ppl are down to play in free fight nights or ranbats, but you know the reception you got when you suggested putting some money on the table for prizes etc.

update the rankings yo…

If you can convince Majin and his guys to come to fight night and play GG then I will learn that game for real, practice FRC’s and all that so I can do something else besides mashed greed sever combos. I’m pretty far behind most everyone familiar with the game in terms of skill but that’s the only “old” game I can see myself putting in the time to learn. I think everyone is getting bored of this current gen of games (or most everyone, I know at least Josh and Squab are still putting in effort and it shows in their play), SF4 has kinda worn out its welcome imo, it’s time for something new, but I’m spoiled. I played random characters online today like Gief and Guy but even then I really wasn’t having much fun…I can’t imagine how you oldschool guys felt in the early/mid 00s when there hadn’t been a good fighting game released for years…

Alternate suggestion: Pokemon fighter ranbats?

Yeah I wasn’t trying to bitch at you if it came off that way, I was just making the point about the 100% combos because most of the people I see talking about it obviously are unfamiliar the game and it is an unfair judgement.

As far as Skullgirls and other FGs go. . .SF4 is my main game, but apart from that I think I would play any game that isn’t unreasonably broken as long as it has a scene or extremely good online. Hell, I don’t even like 3s as a game that much. I just love Urien and I enjoy the parry mechanic. I go from having the most fun with Street Fighter when playing Urien, to wishing I was playing 4 when I’m using anyone else. When I see people that like, only play the shotos or Chun but are absolutely in fucking love with 3s, I don’t understand it.

I don’t care about Skullgirls at all, and I hate the art direction. No matter how good the game is I can’t blame anyone for not caring at all until they get their hands on it. If it turns out to be fun/good/popular I’ll play it for sure. I am mainly excited for KOF right now… But I’ll give all of the FGs a shot between now and SFxT’s release, where I start playing SFxT and drop KOF/any other game because they aren’t being played.

I really wish I had buckled down at some point to just learn fucking Tekken. I suck.

Greens. All of it.

This fucking guy. Ever since he went JMD…

Hell yea, life. I feel you Abe. What I was getting at wasn’t about the time training and stuff. Honestly, how long can you spend practicing shit? Well, dumb question, but the time needs to be well invested, in the right stuff. Not overkill. Almost everybody has a good foundation now. I just think more people need to loosen up, especially on the brackets. Don’t get locked into a box. That type of stuff. Obviously, certain requirements may be diff for diff games, as Jason so graciously elaborated on. Experience is a factor, but you got new guys placing well in tourneys for certain games. The prob here isn’t with guys not practicing or even possessing the knowledge. It just needs to be recalled on the fly. You can still get in certain people’s heads/under skin here and once that happens, everything goes to shit. Scene needs tougher skin, and to loosen up. That’s the only way to really flow. I see some of you guys during matches. Head about to pop. I be laughing my ass off lol.

But yea, diff shit. No clear-cut reason. Various factors come into effect.

I’m sorry, but I have to call bullshit on this to an extent.

If people can afford to go out WEEKLY after fight nights and spend (on avg) $20, then you can afford to go to a tournament once every 1-2 months. The more people you go with the cheaper it is. Realistically, the most you would need for a tournament is ~$50-100 if you travel in groups. That alone should cover entree, food, gas, and a room if needed.

Also, explain to me again why having a $10 entree for a 5 ranbat season (with points and prize money at the end) is ANY different than going to a tournament?! If anything, it’s a better deal because if you don’t do well in a tournament, you’re out. That’s it, say bye to that $10. If you don’t do well in one of the ranbats, oh well, you still have 4 others to bring it back.

Will do in a few …

LOL … so what? I have a drive to play. I really need to find a jersey.

Lmao, man…I tried that. I was a devout advocate of the communal aspect of this whole scene. With Sev and Orel when SFIV first popped off, and then just telling a shitload of people about Hastings. I got them to come for various spurts, but hell, I myself don’t even come now. I like coming out and kicking it with peeps for a bit, but mainly because I’m at work, and the SFIV is pretty dry. It drains my atmosphere. Our “faces slid off” long ago. And that’s a common term any of us will use now. I don’t know. Maybe I could get Rell, Marcus, or Lil Mel to come up there once or twice more, if I told them you just desperately wanted Gear games. But your best bet is to come to us, or the “other crew” house sessions.

I mean, Gear is pretty dead, no use trying to level up tremendously or anything, everyone just plays for old’s times sake now. None of the intense shit from back in the day. You’re doing well, hitting BnB’s, followups, reacting. Obviously you don’t have the experience of playing with people at that top of their game(which is all I have, that and certain reactions/muscle memory, because I suck lol), and you’ll never get that now unfortunately, as I don’t see anyone really trying to play the game now besides shits and giggles or to prove some washed up shit. And so many people left, stopped playing fgs, etc. it wouldn’t be the same. Knowing this, some dudes won’t even touch it like that anymore or have the desire to play(Bishop).

Best bet is to just link up with me, Adrian, or Rell and we can prob let you know if dudes are playing. This or other games.

P.S. Yea, this current gen…smh.

Hey man, just repeating what you had told me. I know you had brought this up, and peeps were not feeling it.

You know I’ve always been down to put money where my mouth was. I remember we had several convos on aim about how to incentivize ppl to pony up some token amount for ranbats etc to go to prizes, EVO monitors etc.

I’m also not afraid to say, no I can’t go out tonight, can’t afford it. But hey if people will actually buy in to a ranbat season, you’ll have my money no worries.

I’ll pay. Let’s ban woot.

Hell yeah. The dude is a giant hitbox that basically says “I’m a slower Hulk that deals a little bit more damage, which doesn’t matter, because Hulk can kill any character if he has an otg assist. Oh, and check out these sweet tentacles and rocket lawn chairs.”

Slow characters are at an instant disadvantage in a game filled with fast rushdown and instant mixups.

Mike Z seems pretty intent on making it play somewhat similar to Marvel 2 instead of a random anime game.

John Stalvern waited. The lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air. There were demons in the base. He didn’t see them, but had expected them now for years. His warnings to Cernel Joson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
John was a space marine for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the spaceships and he said to dad "I want to be on the ships daddy."
Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY DEMONS"
There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the space station base of the UAC he knew there were demons.
“This is Joson” the radio crackered. "You must fight the demons!“
So John gotted his palsma rifle and blew up the wall.
“HE GOING TO KILL US” said the demons
"I will shoot at him” said the cyberdemon and he fired the rocket missiles. John plasmaed at him and tried to blew him up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
“No! I must kill the demons” he shouted
The radio said "No, John. You are the demons"
And then John was a zombie.

Is Lariat one of the only reasons why Gief is considered better than Hawk? On paper, I’ve always seen Hawk as the better character.

And yes, like Flymike said, too much AE in TN.

TN Thread: Memphis says MORE things.

What games do you guys play at Hastings every week now?
