The team got too enthralled by 3D back in the day that just figured they could make a 3D fighter easily. Each game on they kept trying to improve their broken shit but just kept breaking it even more. 3d fighters require huge development teams and resources. Sega and Namco are so far ahead of everyone 3D wise that there’s no point to try and catch up. They’ve been doing it for almost as long as MK’s been around. The MK team were in way over their heads.
Still, I can’t help but think if they kept improving the MK4 gameplay instead of full on 3D that it would have lead them to this point anyway. Keeping it 2D the entire time would have lead them to this point too actually.
OMFG someone give this guy (True Grave) an “I give a fuck rag”…
cuz I definitely don’t have one.
If you’re not pleased with the MK games, their marketing, history of sales/originality, and the fact that now they’re trying to make a game more competitive (to please most bastards who didn’t even stick with the series…) anyways …
then politely GET THE FUCK OUTA HERE!
Nobody wants this game to be exactly like SSF4. I’m so sick and fucking tired of everyone thinking that stupid ass fucking game has the be the absolute standard FOR EVERYTHING. And yes I know MK is borrowing ideas from SF and it’s fucking lame IMO. But whatever.
Crappy game. Leave it up to SRK to speak FOR EVERYONE. None of you are pro game developers. Hell…some of you can’t even use Fighting Maker (I know I can’t). Some of you are barely top players in anything. Do you really fucking think it’s easy to please everyone in making this shit? Is that even possible?
If you don’t appreciate Mortal fucking Kombat…get the fuck out, shut the fuck up, and let us…those who want to embrace the upcoming game…enjoy what little that we have.
Shaolin Monks was a great game. Some of the character models just looked ugly. But the game itself was spectacular for an MK related game, and that particular genre.
I see hella dudes are getting back on UMK3 competitively. I’d prob like to fuck around in it again, but only good port was Saturn right? If I didn’t want to get MAME rom, would Trilogy be next best thing? Which version of Trilogy was best and HOW, not why, was UMK3>Trilogy?
Just get it on MAME, or wait until it comes back on XBLA. So you get the arcade ports and can play them online.
MKT is a fun game, but UMK3 is way better and is what is played at tournaments. MKT in a nut shell is broken. Not only would you have to ban several characters (Bosses, Noob, Rain etc), the existing characters for the most part have far more broken aspects compared to UMK3. UMK3 is more balanced, competitive, and just a better game.
When Midway went bankrupt, all of their games were removed from XBLA. This included UMK3. Though it has been said that it will be back on their to purchase at some point. If you already have UMK3 downloaded you can still play it, but you can’t purchase it.
from what I understand the ranked battle and leaderboard is fucked up or something. I’m pretty sure you can still do player matches though. I’ll be jumping on in a bit actually, for the first time in a while.
xbl gamertag: dammitRAB
Does it kind of bug anyone out that this is pretty much the last shot for MK to “reboot?” They HAVE to get this right. SFIV was able to come out with SSFIV because there were still some characters left over.
However, MK doesn’t have too many characters from the old days to spare. MKTrilogy had 33 (including Chameleon), and MK2011 will have 26 before DLC (IIRC). That’s almost already everyone from the “golden days.” Unless they throw in a slew of brand new folks to start with, there will be little chance for them to make an “Ultimate Mortal Kombat 9.”
This is another problem that occured. You can’t do ranked matches, and the lobbies are messed up. When searching for a player match, you will see over 20 slots of “bot” that you cannot join. You have to see their gamer tag in order to join, it’s best just to get some UMK3 friends and have them invite you.
Well, this time around they can actually patch the game. So if anything is broken or OP, they will most likely patch it in an update. Financial backing FTW!
Give these guys some trust! I know they’ve had some bad games recently, but this is a different scenario. WB is giving them the flow and more importantly all the time they need to get it right. They know with the recent success of FG’s in general, they have to make it right, but again, they don’t have a strict deadline to push out shoddy product.
They have such a great opportunity to make a wonderful game and capitalize on the success of FG’s right now. I actually trust them to make a great game. You should too.
Plus the gameplay video’s look sick… and there’s still 9 longggg months.
