I hope this turns out to be a decent game i haven’t touched the MK series since MK3, Looking forward to seeing more info in the coming months.
I just remembered, didn’t Boon say something about how SFIV was doing things wrong by basically sticking to the series roots and remaining 2D some time back?
That said, if this actually turns out to be legit and makes it’s way to EVO 12, we might have an awesome situation where we have basically the successors to the great 2D fighting franchises of the 90’s on the main stage.
I remember him saying that he liked how SF4 looked, but MK9 was going in a different direction. And it looks a lot like SF4 as far as 2D gameplay with 3D graphics.
I really can’t say I’m excited from what I saw.
After all these years, it still doesn’t seem that Ed Boon and his band of programars can or will address MK’s clunky controls. From the trailer it still looks like we’ll be waiting a quarter-of-a-second every time we tap forward to regain control of the character. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we have the same shallow up close game MK games have always had.
I’ve been an MK fan since the origonal, and its for that reason I want MK to be on the level that Street Fighter (a franshise I love even more) is in quality. But I’m still seeing the same core outdated-out-of-the-box fighting engine that Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance had, but in 2D.
But, who knows, maybe they’ll clean it up by the release date. I doubt it though.
Glad to see its 2D and that the characters have gotten their classic looks back. They made most of them look goofy to the point of being unrecognizable in the later 3D games.
Also theres a familiar looking girl chained up in the final shot where Kung Lao puts his hat back on. I’m not familiar with the characters introduced past MK4, perhaps someone could ID her?
Hmm, didn’t hear that interview.
But the quote I recall from Boon was from around when MKvsDCU was announced and him trying to justify the direction that game was in in comparison to IV. Off course, it simply be a misquote from somewhere.
shiva please!
Yes! It’s just not right without the run.
The trailer looked so nice. Thank god for 2D
I hope I get to see that young’n do the “WHOOPSIE!”
Lets just hope online doesn’t suck.
I watched this trailer a few times and I have got to say that I am impressed. The mixture of 2d planes with 3D seems to really work for these character designs. The game does not look all that clunky.
I’d like to try a demo or something soon.
2D and tag play? I’m sold.
Two instances in that video there was 4 players on screen. MK Tag Teams?
It needs Smoke!!
I wish it showed one that was actually new.
How many times now has the Living Forest been used?
Also, god damn Kung Lao sawin’ a bitch from the crotch up. Dude is straight cold blooded.
On arena’s background we can see Kira, LiMei and a black hair woman (near Kahn’s throne) who looks like Kitana… I guess we can forget to see this females as fighters in the game. Too bad.
now dont say that just yet becuse they could pull a capcom and have them in the background like they did on the airfield stage with boxer and claw
That looks amazing. The gameplay looks to be back at its best point in the franchise, (subjectively) Ultimate.
I’m interested. At the very least, he’s got my attention. Showcasing both gameplay and in game graphics on trailer numero uno is a sure fire way to make me watch. Fuck BS hype trailers (MvC3 lol).
yeah hopefully its the opposite of mk vs dc
Then theres Shang Tsung at the throne room where Mileena and Sub Zero is fighting
