New mortal kombat is coming

Me too. They really have to chill with those unblockable full screen attacks. Shit, if something is going to be either unblockable or full screen there better be a damn good reason for it. Putting the two together is just lunacy unless the move is slow as balls. And if that’s the case then it’s a useless move that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

MvC3 looks good but it’s MvC. We’ve seen it. This is like stepping into Bizarro World where MK is actually promising. That’s the difference.

I don’t know much about how GGPO works but I can’t imagine the engine that runs the game has a whole lot to do with the netcode. You’re not sending or receiving any UE3 info over the connection. Hopefully something comparable to GGPO is used though. MK vs. DCU online was pretty much a different game.

Im really hyped for this game, more then MVC3 and most other fighters I can think of now…well except KOF13. I get the feeling the dashing will make this more"SF"in its meta-game, but so far nothing seems overtly stupid and if boon is paying attention to the competitive aspect then im sure patches can fix whatever problems may arise.

Yeah, I can see that. There’s going to be a lot of dash canceling into X-Ray super kind of stuff.

Whoa, wait a minute…

There’s dash cancelling in this???

From what Jeff Gerstmann’s said, yeah, there’s dash canceling. I’m not sure if it was done in the video though. I’d like to get conclusive proof but it looks like Paolo and John were just screwing around to show off some of the flair rather than playing for real.

I for one am excited for this game

No. You are not. I am Sheeva’s biggest fan.

You can download streamed footage of E3 MK presentation (Day 3) in good quality (up to 600mb) here

Haha. Yeah I don’t know if it was done in the video. Actually, the last match on the gameplay demo with Kung Lao, there may have been a DC’ing out of spin now that I think about it but I really wasn’t paying too much attention on a one time viewing. Did Jeff say if that cost any meter to do that?

If so… awesome Boon. Just awesome. Continue to not disappoint me.

The dash out of spin was the exact example Gerstmann gave. I hope you can do it out of more than just the few “long” special moves. No mention of meter cost but I doubt it. The meter seems pretty clearly laid out for what costs what. In fact, it’s already pretty tight as far as how expensive everything is considering you have one bar for three different uses. FIVE in the tag team mode. Adding dash cancels to it would be evil.:badboy:

This game has a lot of potential in the zoning/space aspect too, the jump arcs aren’t to floaty and I get the feeling footsies might be very important in this game. It wont be aggressive like UMK3, I think it will be more of a hybrid of offense and defense…but its something that i think will be a welcomed addition into the MK franchise. On that note, I feel scared saying this but on paper…this is looking very good and deep lol.

Well I’m going to have to check out that gameplay demo again to see if I saw what I actually saw or if the 7th Summer Shandy I had is playing tricks on me. But I’m pretty coherent enough where I don’t think I would’ve messed that up. If that doesn’t take meter though, that could be potential abuse which I don’t like.

The wake-up/meaty/reversal system seems very interesting…now this is just a theory so bare with me. The recovery off the ground seems very instant, infact any move that knocks you from mid/full screen is nearly impossible to pursue since the opponent is standing already. However, if ur close enough to ur opponent I get the impression that cross-up’s/meaties will make it so that the reversal time is very strict…maybe like SF2 strict lol. I dunno its just a "sense"im getting but there recovery is very quick so it seems like the time to do a reversal will be very strict as a result…I hope this is the case anyways.

Can’t wait to blanka ball everyone with Kano and hatchet people with Nightwolf.

oh shit, i didn’t know boon did the voice of scorpion, thats a cool piece of info to learn.

He also voices Liu Kang’s turkey noises in the first 3 MK’s.

Part 1: the roster
So some fun things me and my friends thought about
26 characters:
1.Kung lao
2.Jonny Cage
3.Scorpion
4.Sub Zero
5.Reptile
6.Night wolf
7.Meelina
8.Sektor
The initial 8 we absolutely 100% know are in because they were shown to be in game fully.

9.Liu kang
10.Kitana
11.Raiden
12.Kano
13.Sonya
14.Cyrax
6 characters who are extremely likely to make it. Liu kang is a poster boy, mileena sans kitana seems unlikely, raiden is in the intro and features heavily in the story, Kano is one of the original cast members as is sonya and both may already have models thanks to the arena, and Cyrax goes with sektor.

15.Barraka
16. Jax
17. Shang tsung
These 3 are the only playable characters left not yet on the list to round out the roster between MK 1 and 2. While i think all 3 will make it i ordered it in most likely to least likely to make it as a playable character.

18.Jade
19.Young sub
20.Sindel
21.Stryker
22.Kabal
23.Sheeva
24.Robo Smoke
25.Ermac
26.Human smoke
These 9 would be the only characters required to round out and finish off the entire playable cast from mk1-umk3(this leaves out notably rain and noob saibot). This of course assumes that other than shang there will be no playable boss characters(shao khan, goro, etc)

However:
It has already been stated this is a back to the futureesque plot so there’s a lot of leeway with some characters not showing up, or showing up in different forms. It’s already been hinted at for another cyborg, and theres some other fun possibilites as well. Totally new characters may appear or characters who were one way before might be totally different.

The list me and my buddies got for those most likely to get the axe(in no order), and i’ll limit it to 5 since we managed passable reasons for large portions of the cast:

  1. Stryker: although i know he’s got like a cult following he’s not very story central and certainly not someone you immediately think of when you think MK.
  2. Sheeva: pretty much striker
  3. Smoke/robo smoke: already touched on seeing as how he’s basically a scorp clone. If he does return he will probably(hopefully) be quite different.
  4. Sindel: I seem to recall her returning being part of shao khans plot. This either makes her totally essential for the MK3 retelling, or if history changes enough totally useless.
  5. Jade: Similar to stryker and co.
(kabal dodges the top 5 simply because he’s pretty damn unique and was pretty damn broken on his intro)

As for possible new/variations of characters:

  1. Some form of robo sub zero(young one or noob)
  2. Human cyrax
  3. God knows what else.

Things i’m really hoping not to see:

  1. Blaze
    2.mokap
    3.meat
    4.taven
  2. dagon.

I could make an argument for someone like quan chi getting a char slot, but so help me if any of those 5 appear this game better be competition quality because they’re wasting fan service slots.

Part 2: the gameplay.
My 1 giant insane concern right now is breakers. Everyone mentions GG as an example of a combo break system, and i’ve played GG quite a bit(never on a comp level) and i’ll go ahead and say it’s a WONDERFUL system there. I DO NOT TRUST MIDWAY TO GET IT RIGHT. I’m much more worried it’ll wind up like the original TvC where it’s the ONLY thing balancing infinites and instead they just get lazy on combo systems because “Oh well if they take too much damage they build 2 meters and break out!” I reallllly hope they don’t get sloppy because of this or that the EX/Skele moves don’t wind up a joke because everyone saves for breakers.

The silver lining: Mk isn’t serious. Mk isn’t competitive. This is generally the feeling for a lot of people and while maybe MK2 and more so UMK3 are great exceptions it doesn’t mean its likely to get taken seriously at first even IF it’s balanced. On the upside this means that i’d say MK is the one fighter right now that could easily get away with the dreaded “Balance Patch”. It’s easy to see why fighting communities hate these (If you play SSFIV just look at your mains “How can we make X better in the patch” topic to see why" but i think MK can get away with it since if it winds up broken, it’ll probably be VERY broken, and some form of patch would be seen as positive rather than screwing with already decent balance for the sake of those who complained loudly.

Eji1700 that’s one hell of a post (: i wish to see hum cyrax

about breakers,i think of it like GGs dead angle, it hits back(in GG after you bloked) and eats 50% of tention,in MK eats 2 bars it's a good balance between offence\deffence , but mabye blazblue like breaker wuld be beter for mk (IMO) jsut 1 per round and choise wise.

"FINISH HIM!"
DU DU DUNNNNNN
[Connection with other player(s) has been lost.]

Something I noticed about The Pit stage, is that there’s a couple characters fighting on a separate bridge(like in MK2). I was looking closely to determine who they were. And…I think they’re Reiko and Daegon from Armageddon. So…I guess they won’t be in the game.
