Of course I’m not on y’all radar. It’s either because I’m so far ahead, or it’s because I don’t even bother to go to your tournaments with people who don’t try. I’d go with the first reason personally… and the second reason…
Can you please explain what that did to the scene? I’m so curious what that did for you personally, because you are not playing to your full potential that you should be by now.
I agree with some of your sentiments. But honestly dude, most of us aren’t esports whores and our lives don’t all revolve around gaming. Explain how it is than that you live your life gaming and you can’t even beat the locals in the games they care about?
Most of us are here to have fun. And yes winning is fun, and there are some of us who want to go to that next level, but a lot of us are content just learning about a game and having fun with our friends. That is what this scene should be about. Friends getting games together.
Honestly I think a lot of people in this scene forgot how to have fun. All we do is put eachother down and wait for the next bit of drama. All of us need to shut the fuck up and play.
First off, I CAN and DO beat them in whatever game here locally. So what are you talking about? How many times have I proven this? haha.
Second, it’s funny you mention that most of you guys are just playing for fun and not taking it serious, because when I was saying that, I was getting chewed out for it. Meaning that a pretty decent amount of players here think otherwise. Do you speak for them? Does everyone else here agree with that, because Pat made it seem like when his all mighty Messiah Jwong came down here, that sparked a change and he wanted to get better. A lot of things about playing fighting games is just common sense. You don’t have to play a game all day to learn how to play it correctly or have a life that, “revolves around gaming.” Hell, y’all get together about 2 times a week playing. That’s more than enough to be a solid player, but I guess most of y’all use that time to mash buttons. This just sounds more like an excuse. This is why I don’t play with y’all and only choose to play with very few people down here. We don’t share the same interest in actually getting to a top level.
When Montoya made that video about me, acting all sarcastic and toying around with the fact that I MIGHT just be better than Garrett, (pretty much saying that there was no way in hell that I wasn’t) while the rest of y’all pretty much co-signed that sign of insubordinate behavior, that gave me the right to say whatever I want now regarding the skill level. Y’all allowed to talk shit, so am I, except I can back it up and y’all can’t.
My only point that I was trying to make was how stupid it is to fly someone down here and the method you are trying to use to draw outside attention to the scene won’t work. It worked for A.R.K, but y’all are doing it all wrong. Of course, Pat had to bring it to the level of talking about my skill level again, (which is cool because there is nothing wrong with competitive trash talk) so I had to go a little deeper. Think of it this way. You are trying to get top level comp down here and bring notice to your tournament. Why would anyone want to come down here to play with y’all when statements about, “We just play for fun and don’t care” are made? Hmmmm
Right now our sponsors are NVGA and Vibras. NVGA is a collection of gaming scenes throughout the country, including X-topia/NM-ISM here in New Mexico. Vibras is a company that makes headsets, specifically 5.1 surround sound gaming headsets.
They are the ones that provide our booth setup (tables+covers, banners, lights, etc). They also provide the consoles, controllers, games, and monitors. They also move the booth and equipment to a bunch of conventions and tournaments in the Supercon 2K Series, which includes the FFF/ACE tournament. They also provide us with a few hotel rooms to use as we need. This year, one is going to Juicebox and the Arizona scene and the other is being used for our community staffing the booth as a break/rest area and for a large community party post-convention.
We also get money from the ACE convention as well. This is how we pay for pot bonuses and various tourney expenses (including the above mentioned community party). This money is also where the local scene profit comes from and is going to be invested back into the community to help us get even stronger.
At the moment we are also looking to get some extra local and national sponsors to contribute various help and prizes for the events we are running. I don’t have much to say on that front yet, but I hope to be able to share some of the people we’re working with soon.
I want to be as open as possible on this kind of thing, so if anyone has a question feel free to post here or give me a call/text and we can talk. I’ll also be at Ranbats tonight if anyone has anything they want to discuss there.
One thing I can share is the final version of our flyer:
Thanks to Ian for his awesome work on the FFF logo!
Honestly, even though I think that 98% of the stuff that Mamba says trolling bullshit. I think that your statement is even more bullshit.
Don't get me wrong, at the end of the day, I think what we do should be about fun and bringing people together. That being said, we've all chosen to be a part of something that is inherently competitive. It's a competitive fighting game forum we are on, and we hold competitions on a semi-regular basis. To try and deny that aspect of it, by calling people "E-sports whores" and saying "our lives don't revolve around gaming," is pretty fucking dickish. I honestly take offense to that. Am I one of these E-sports whores whose life revolves around gaming? I'd hate to think that that's how you think of me. We choose to do this as a hobby, not just me, but every one of us on this board. If you are gonna choose COMPETITIVE fighting games as your hobby and devote at least, a marginal amount of time to it, why not take pride in your passion and try to be great at it? Otherwise, why be part of the scene?
I feel like this philosophy you promote is counter productive to what you want to accomplish. I think we need to try and include people, not exclude them. In regards to Mamba, sometimes I really wish you didn't live in New Mexico, so we wouldn't have to put up with your fail-troll shit talking. Honestly though, what I wish for most, is that you would actually come out and just play. Instead of holding on to your one win in whatever game you were playing at that time, trying to validate yourself as some gaming legend. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen you compete in two games at the same time... Are you capable of being decent at two games at once? Or are you only good enough to play one game at a time? Come prove me wrong. I'd love to have you around.
Frisbie nobody said where legit cause Jwong was here.
Let me explain Jwong is THE Marvel king Marvel just came out for ACE(=HYPE sorry you don’t like marvel) Jwong expressed interest through alex. Montoya was giving his OWN money for a thousand dollar pot for Marvel. He tells Jwong if you don’t win the tournie we’ll give you 250 for your flight. Guess what he won we gave the thousand to the winner (Jwong). Garrett, Farmington and Colorado(who was mad about the monitors) had a blast getting drunk and partying with Jwong all night. Wich made for a night they won’t forget. As for me I don’t go with you fags to evo so to see wong play and for him to come early and get a couple causual games with anybody pre tournie(me) was a fucking amazing experience and I can’t thank Alex and Montoya enough.
As far as steaming what you gonna stream your shitty guile getting stomped by my shittier Thawk or are the streamers lucky enough to see Garrett have a combo exhibition on who ever he’s playing. You wanna talk about a waste, stream our low level play across the web for nobody to give a fuck. Frisbie do you guys shoot news that get no ratings cause that would be just as stupid.
As far as trying to get people like Juicetwat and Jwong out this year I don’t feel theres any benifit. Last year though it just came together perfect and was fucking awesome.
If Mamba came out all the time and him and Garrett played that would be worth streaming but guess what Mamba is all and only about Mamba.
Like it or not, having someone with a recognizable name around tends to bring casual players out of the woodwork. These are the people I think this community needs to reach.
Truthfully here’s all there is to it: It’s an opportunity to play with more people, and if we can use Juicebox’s name to bring more people to the fighting game community that’s a good thing. If you wanna bitch about cost, bitch at me. As far as I’m told, we spent a grand total of zero (0) dollars to bring him here. Literally no cost. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong. Because honestly, if that hotel room (which I’m sure would go unused if we didn’t use it anyway) and the pass to meet Stan Lee (which again, I’m sure would not be money in our bank if we chose not to use it) is actually costing us something, it is a non-issue to simply revoke those and have him stay at my place. I’m sure he’d enjoy the Korean food.
