New MBAA PS2 Thread! Final Round 14 Around the Corner! FREE MBAACC Update This Spring

And is that appropriate in any way? The commentary being drunk. If so than I will hold me peace but till I’m convince I will continue to think this way.

As far as SFIV scene goes I’m not happy with their handling. granted their not as bad as this case but I’m not comfortable with their scene handling as well. But that case is different because I have stigma with SF4. (I’m not saying SF4 is bad game but i cant appreciate it the way that the scene does)

Apparently you guys want to get hype so you’ll be known but do you want to the scene to be perceive this way? A scene full of potty mouth, strong egoistical participants that show no class or decency in an event being hosted where many people expect to participate in a social activity where security and comfort is usually established. I guaranteed that the scene will be base and bias by this event and its method interactions. If this is what you guys want them I can no longer argue this but I must admit I think its very counterproductive that will prove to be not as rewarded as developing a socially acceptable scene.

I can go on as to why I think this and back it up comfortably. But I already feel it may be in vain since my credibility is low with regards to my competence of understanding a fighting game scene in question. Of course if some one ask I wont mind expressing.

@arvelous- To clarify a few things. Anything I post is with the intention of always being serious. When ever I’m not serious, I’ll usually indicate that with a “JK” initial for Joke or use the phrase " Pun intended" for humorous intention

Regards to what you post, I understand what your saying that but as the member Lane had quoted (which I accept comfortably). I am uptight, but I’m not ashamed of it at all because I feel it shows my extreme value in having things done appropriately, especially for cultural I grew to love and value a lot. I want it to flourish well and effective.

I desire to influence competitive gaming into something that’s capable of developing and organizing it self. Granted I don’t think I’m alone in this goal but I’m confident that the current scene in development can be done better than this.

If they don’t improve to my liking I will start anew. I’m confident my interest is the same as other so I can speak boldly of this whether its accepted or not.

Ok noob question-
The super gauge goes up while you hit or get hit (or block), but when it reaches the limit you go MAX and after a while it goes back to 100% right? So actually you don’t have full control of your super gauge and how many EX you’ll be able to do with it at any given time and of course you have access to arc drive and other stuff only for a limited time at “random” times (because you don’t decide when you get hit).
So the question is how does it change the flow of the game and your game plan? Or maybe I should ask how do you make a game plan involving meter usage when you don’t have control on it?

Fighting game tournaments are where nerds go to ape out and return to their African roots via wombo combos combos and nonsense lingo created by southerners.

Well MAX mode for C and F styles only is important for a number of different things. In that mode you have access to as many EX specials you want until MAX mode ends and it also gives you access to circuit spark.

Crescent Style when exiting MAX mode returns to 200%.
Full Style when exiting returns to 100%.
Half does not have MAX mode.

Generally speaking, if you want to not to go into MAX mode, when you get a combo or during a blockstring you can use an EX special or bunker out of pressure or for C style you can blast off Heat (Only possible in F style MAX mode). There is a lot of ways to use meter and MBAA allows for a lot of choices and creativity. It’s not really random, because you know when you will go into MAX mode and you can plan accordingly.

As far as I know, Curbeh was the only Reis player there at all

Are there still no cross-ups in the game like earlier versions?

i think the guys name was Chaser playing F-Reis

This varies between moon style. IIRC i think i actually fucked up and well C moon actually might still return to 200% meter after MAX. Basically for Crescent don’t worry about hitting MAX, you’ll still have more than enough meter.

For Half moon i would imagine it would be a lot more difficult because they auto heat and get back down to zero. however half moon is the moon style based around and most suitable for rushdown, and MB rushdown is more concentrated on normals than specials let alone EXes.

for full moon, you can charge up your meter if you feel it is safe to do so. this can actually make full moon really powerful meterwise depending on your character and playstyle (ending combos by knocking them far away rather than with a close, offensive knockdown).

in the end, MB is not a very meter dependent game so it isn’t something you should lose any sleep over. meter is useful for probably three things: damage output for combos most of all, then after that, reversals, and coming in third, EXes for rushdown. Note that none of these apply to neutral game and zoning. therefore, with so much blockstring-ing and blocking and etc, you should easily be able to do EXes when you have the need to do them (as long as this is within reason).

there is nothing anything like where when ryu has super or two bars or rufus has three bars that your entire footsie game changes and your rushdown stops because the risk gets higher. there is very rarely any usefulness in watching your opponent’s meter in MB, which is why i suck at doing so in SF.

one interesting thing to note is that max and blood heat actually give you MORE meter, but it just drains. go into training mode or blood heat and go into max, then start spamming an EX constantly, you should get more than three if you’re in C or F. unfortunately this doesn’t result in any kind of cool or useful combos lol.

also, thanks for asking this question, i just edited the main guide a little bit. work in progress tag ftw

no, they changed it so that there’s real crossups now. earlier if the attacker was facing away from the defender, the defender could block either way. back in MBAC that meant crossups were mostly just when you didn’t know which direction of you the opponent would land on, and they would attack once they landed. now there’s real crossups and some which-ways in MBAA are hella fierce.

keo-bas, we don’t have top players that make speeches and try and preach the idea that “losing is for faggots”. i’m not shitting on valle/watson or anything but my point is that we are no different from the rest of the fighting game scene. in fact we’d probably be given more shit if we were “super sophisticated players who play a clear and refined game” etcetc COUGHGGCOUGH . like I understand what you mean but I’m sorry we don’t have an s-kill for the community of every game. as it is sp00ky has great commentary when he’s running detailed playbyplays and that’ll serve your tastes way better than marvel commentary will. you shouldn’t be taking up this “problem” you have with people who are hype with the MB community, and i don’t wanna be an ass but sorry, if you’re telling us that there’s a certain way we should act when everyone is clearly happy about it and other communities are envying our hype then the problem is you and not us. who are you to be saying how we should act, when we are not interacting with you at all? if its such a problem for you then turn off the stream instead of dirtying the thread with your shit while i am sitting here writing entire guides so that the community can grow from NEC hype and so that i can have more than two fucking people to play against in my region.

This seems useful.

You can also take matches from whatever source and explain why the players did this and that.
For example after reading in the guide about the example of guard break I remembered ciel in the stream throwing swords to stay in the air so she won’t land into that robot rush super.
Of course the commentator mentioned she does it to stay in the air but only now I understand why.
BTW you could see this concept in AH as well, as some moves there were air unblockable too and you could do similar setups of air block strings land before them and get a free hit.

I would like to contribute stuff I’ve found as H Ryougi. How can I add to the wiki?

Few things I’d like to add re: NEC commentary:

  1. Excitement for a game is first and foremost. If people aren’t interested in playing or watching, your community does not grow. The playerbase stagnates and you don’t attract new people, and eventually the game dies down or stops being competitive.

  2. Demonstrating excitement differs on a fundamental level based on region. WC tends to be more laid back than EC, which is known for raw hype and occasional brutal trashtalk. While I myself am from WC, I did live in EC for a few years, and my first commentary experience was actually at NEC 2007. Since then I’ve tried to incorporate a mix between WC breakdown and EC hype, but given that NEC was an EC event populated by a large EC base, it’s only natural to cater to their type of commentary.

  3. People seem to enjoy the way I commentate, which is why I do it the way I do. I think this is the first time I’ve been told that I was too hype and crass, which is pretty amusing.

You say the event should be social, where security and comfort are usually established. Do you know what NEC is like? People stayed up until 5-6 AM drinking and smoking weed while playing video games and talking loudly. On Sunday, the relatively small ballroom was packed with probably a hundred and fifty people if not more. People were standing shoulder to shoulder. In some parts of the room there was literally no space to move. Cheering and trashtalking frequently happened at the same time. You seem to have this perception that fighting game events should be prim and proper outings where people sip tea and discuss the merits of Ryu’s Ultra. You should go to some tournies yourself and check out the environment first before making further assumptions. At this point either you need to change your perception of what the scene is like or you need to find a new hobby because your expectations are completely out of line with reality. Melty Blood at NEC has been the star of the show since 2007 because of the energy from its playerbase, and this year has solidified it once again as an exciting game to watch and play. If you can’t handle cursing and abrasive/egotistical behavior as the stream was demonstrating, you will very likely not be able to handle real players in a competitive environment either.

was a really great watch, sucks that i missed out (again!)

cracked up hearing fox bein a tru Backseat Gamer http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/8963/dsc01437f.jpg

hopefully some of yall show up for FR, going to attempt to make it out there since i have money this time

Let’s play MBAA like gentleman.

“Oh my, he pressed those buttons so elegantly. Marvelous.”

You’re a combo video, son.

So I actually started playing a little MBAA today. I’m pretty inconsistent with air combos though.

That would be pretty awesome, I’m for it.

Just want to point out some things. Cross up protection is still it the game. There was always cross ups, but they’re not as strong as in say GG, but still very integral to a characters rush down.

Also the lo down on Each moons Meter

Crescent: 300% then automatically goes to Max. While in Max can Blood Heat. After Max returns to 200%. Can only Spark in Max. Can heat when above 100% meter. Gradually turns red health into yellow health in Heat and Blood Heat (BH is a bit faster). Game Clock is Stopped during heat and blood heat.

Half: 200% then automatically heats. When hit in Heat you will automatically Spark in most situations. When you leave Heat you return to 0%. Gradually turns red health into yellow health in Heat. Game Clock is Stopped during heat.

Full: 300% then automatically goes to Max. While in Max can Blood Heat. After max returns to 100%. Can Spark in Max. Can only Heat/Blood Heat in Max. You can “Initiative Heat” while in Max. IH cancels the move you are currently doing, as long as it is EX cancelable, on whiff, hit OR block, puts you in normal Heat. When you IH or Blood Heat you instantly turn all red health into Yellow health. Game Clock is NOT Stopped during heat and blood heat.

After heat/blood heat you return to 0%. while in heat you have access to arc drive. in blood heat you have access to another/advanced arc drive. Using an AD during max leaves you at 100% and AD or AAD leaves you at 0% during respective heat modes. During Blood heat if you can land a EX shield you will do a Last Arc, leaving you at 0%.

As the MC for most of the stream I will not apologize for my profanity, If you go to any gathering for any game ever you will hear things like what spewed from this festering hatehole I call a mouth.

The commentary team for the stream was myself Sp00ky and Dippy I dont know who else did commentary but I thought commentary is supposed to be amusing and enlightening.

All 3 of us have been playing this game for a very long time as such we have alot of friends in the current community. as long as we have been doing this you have been the first person to complain about our profanity. If it isnt for you thats fine but we are honestly all very open and friendly guys i seen so many people I dont know this past weekend just walk right in and sit down to start playing and most of us would teach people everything we knew. what scene do you know where someone will tell their opponent how they play and how to counter it right before a match or explain to a opponent right after what chinks in his armor he took advantage of to win?

However…you do pose a interesting challenege. There is a team spooky gathering this weekend if we stream/record anything I am going to do my commentary in a refined gentlemanly way It should also prove to be amazingly funny.

Dudley will be pleased.

S-Blade, you misjudge and over exaggerated intentions. I do have a stigma and that why i cam here to find some understanding as to why the scene was developing this way. I may not be in favor but I don’t desire to change you guys if your can settle with them. I clearly say this in my earlier post.

Either way you explain this to me some what well.

Bellresia, that is not my ideal intentions. You seem to over generalized just as the last member did. I feel a sense that you people hold some value that just overweight how things should be done. I have little experiences in game events, but I’m confident enough to know what is sociably acceptable for me or not. Sadly to say I cant accept this scene development and I will change that for myself and by myself if I have to. I came here with intention of getting information and and deciding if this can develop here or if I have to start anew.

I’m pretty much seeing I need to start anew.
