alot of people dont really like to pick up completely new characters since there are no videos or guides or anything. it forces you to fight with what you’ve largely figured out by yourself versus stats built up by the Japanese or top American players.
I’m pretty sure everyone subs Ryougi. Tertiary, at the least.

Basically I was trying to share some of the stuff I found with Neko/Mech and got shot down because apparently if a character sucks and/or is not popular, you should never talk about them even if you’ve found uses for them.
So I gave up on that and started to talk about Ryougi instead. And M. Chibi and the group of established players started going on about how she is a joke and not to be taken seriously and how she’s not threatening at all/has no mixups/whatever.

F Ryougi lacks “mixup” per se, she doesn’t really have frametraps and her rekka is not good for high/low, it’s like Kyo’s, second hit can’t be low, last hit can’t be high. She has quite good damage and does LOTS of guard bar though, and has disgustingly good air normals, Anyone who calls her a joke hasn’t played against her

Yeah, well I’m certainly not disagreeing with her lack of ‘true’ mixups. But to say that she’s not threatening in any way? I think her guard damage alone is enough to make her scary, not to mention that if you stop paying attention for just a moment, she can nail you with her surprisingly fast unblockables and/or crossups.

Look, myself, personally, I don’t find her intimidating. Period. If I had to play Sabator I still wouldn’t feel intimated, and that’s not a knock against Sab, it’s against the character. That’s just me.

this is another wara video that you should really watch, the setups/mixups in it are a lot better than mine which are pretty half assed. It’s from ReACT final tuned but everything here is still valid.
Just read over at Melty Bread that H-Ryougi has a roll from her ground dash. Doesn’t work in crescent or full…I think that just solidified playing as half now for me. Oh and, turns out she can’t double jump after she attacks in the air in any style. That kinda sucks for her air game.

Can she? I can’t seem to double jump if I whiff in the air. On block or on hit, yeah she can. Unless you know of a way…?
H-Ryougi doesn’t have the tools that C or H do. She misses out on all unblockables and ends up being somewhat slower. What are her strengths?
Not to get into too much theory fighting, but in a nutshell half just has more range with nearly the same combo options as c. Her moveset is more simplistic than c (214A/B vs 214A/412A). I still hold on to the belief that the best Ryougi should be crescent, but for me the intermediate player, half seems the easiest to grasp.
Key word being “easy” lol.
And I’m an idiot for that post about not being able to double jump after attacking in the air. C Ryougi can do it with j.A. That’s about it.

All Ryougi’s deal a lot of guard damage. And yeah, I forgot that H-Ryougi can grab knives in the air! That’s actually quite significant in pressure.
C-Ryougi is my favourite though.
