NEW Hori Fighting Stick VX (360) & V3 (PS3) Thread

Thx for the info!

SYN- I was a beginner too and used this stick to learn soldering. It was relatively easy. I don’t know about dual-modding though.

Cool beans!
I’ll look into it if I do get it, I have another money eating hobby as well and some of them just arrived…

So does mounting the JLF with the plate cause a problem with functionality? Would sanding off some of the bottom plate prevent it?

I picked up a VX in Santa Monica at Hyper Game (awesome place for Japan imports) for 89.99

I like the light weight and compact size with ability to have all Sanwa with little modding and no awkward stick height, unlike the Tekken 6 Wireless Stick. Soldered buttons still suck. They feel better than other Hori buttons but I will still replace the switches and change the plungers with Sanwa.

Upon modding the stick with a JLF I found out what makes this stock stick better than other stock sticks from Hori. On the base of the stick there is a metal ring. Other sticks like the Ex2 do not have this metal ring. If you compare the picture from Jangofatt’s mod to the one I took of the VX the metal ring is the only thing different.

So I was thinking that a 99 cent metal Sanwa ring from Lizardlick.com will make any Hori stick awesome. I wish they use Omrons switches like the Wii Hori stick. Not sure why Hori decided to use Omrons in the Wii and cheap ones in every other stick for the PS3 and 360.

Not sure how the Namco stick differs but my guess is that it has a metal ring in the base of the stick.

I wish they would bring this to the States. Why no love of 6 button sticks.

Installing with the plate will cause the stick to be shorter than a JLF on a Madcatz TE. Without the plate will bring it to the same height ± 0.5mm

In terms of function, if you don’t mind the short shaft than there is no issue.

Did you keep the old switches for the buttons? Looks like the pcb for the buttons were untouched.

Desoldered old buttons, clipped and resoldered new

I want one of these to add to my collection:lol: I like the 6 button layout.

Hi everyone…

This is my first post on the forums here, which I have finally registered for in order to ask a few neophyte questions about my first arcade stick (and its modification). Partly on the advice of this thread, I purchased a Fighting Stick V3 for my PS3/PC a couple weeks ago and I do quite love it! I figured for being my first arcade stick the stock parts would be good enough. But well, I got that itch. I don’t really like the buttons and I figured I might as well swap the stick while I’m in there.

So to make a long story short, I now have six Seimitsu skeleton buttons and a Seimitsu LS-55-01 on the way to do this thing up. I’m gonna just desolder the old buttons from the PCB and resolder the new ones in since I don’t really wanna bother with quick disconnects and wires. I think I have that part figured out…

But I want to ask a few questions!

  1. Does anyone have some instructions or advice on how to install the joystick? The one picture I saw looks like they spliced the wires from the cable coming off the joystick pinout into the cable coming off the main PCB. I can solder together/electrical tape no problem, but how do I know which wire to splice with which?

  2. I want to print out my own art for this thing, and I figure I could put the art in Photoshop with the template NRX posted. But unfortunately the link now 404s:

2 (cont.). So does anyone have a copy of this I could get?

  1. Finally, once I add the art, I assume I can get it printed at a local copy shop. But the V3 doesn’t have any screwholes for mounting. I assume I can remove the plastic overlay and glue my art to the stick… are there any suggestions for what/where I can get a sort of plastic or something to cover the art?

I think that is everything. Sorry if some of these questions are just blatantly obvious… I’ve been trying to figure it out as I go.

Thanks again!

I’m in the same boat, having just purchased the VX and wanting to replace it with a spare JLF i have! Does anyone have any advice on setting up the wiring for either JLF or LS-32 as i have both of these lying around???
thx for any help!!
cheers

Can anyone help me here?

I’m trying to figure out how I would wire up a Datel Arcade Pro/Paewang Revolution PCB and still use the external PCB thingy associated with the buttons (Start, Select, Home, etc.) and turbo switches at the top.

I drew up a diagram but I’m not sure as to how I would wire the Datel/Paewang TURBO button/function if there is no dedicated TURBO button on the V3. I’ve seen people wire it up to the SELECT button, but I’m not sure how.

Here is the diagram as of now:

I’m sure there’s other things that are missing from the diagram, like what to do with the top right hand corner (I think those are for the TURBO switches), or if I need some ground wires for the Datel/Paewang Start, Select, and similar buttons located at the bottom of the PCB…but then again, I don’t really understand common ground and other such terminology. I would usually just try to ā€˜imitate’ a successful person’s method of wiring such things together. :frowning:

For this, I have tried to imitate lockon’s HRAPV3 SA Datel/Paewang PCB installation seen here:

I don’t quite understand some of the stuff going on here…
An explanation would help.

If I could get some help, that would be great!
I created a thread about it, but I haven’t received any replies. Sorry, if I may come off as impatient due to this.

I modded my PS3 V3 with a lot of help from this thread so thanks everyone who helped out. It looks just like FaceToFist stick on page 5 (post #103). Since I“m a bit of a noob when it comes to stick modding I“m curious how I would do to dual mod the V3 with a common ground 360 pad? Because of the V3 top PCB with the start/select etc. buttons I“m not sure how I would wire it. If it“s possible to do I was thinking of using the MC fightpad so I wouldn“t have to worry about the triggers.

Has anyone done a dual mod for the PS3 V3 using a hacked 360 pad for the V3 that could help me out with a wiring diagram or tutorial? I know there are a lot of tutorials for dual modding but like I said, the V3 top PCB makes me unsure.

Thank you in advance.

I went ahead and also was able to finish my mod with the assistance of the thread and the Japanese blog. Toughest part for me was realizing which wires from the PCB to solder to the harness. The trick there is to find the ā€œharness pinoutā€ for a Seimitsu stick and then use the Japanese blog to see which wire is which coming from the PCB.

Got the buttons wired up with quick disconnects last night, also my first time using them but it went well. Only problem is the new stick, an LS-55-01, does indeed grind a little on the bottom of the case as was mentioned earlier. I will need to sand that out a good deal to make it nice and smooth, then finish my control panel painting. Anyway it’s perfectly playable now thanks to you guys! Here are a couple pics.

The stick is full Seitmitsu, LS-55 and PS-14-KNs.

Dude, what qd’s are those?

oh man, those look like industrial strength QDs…that stick is ready for space travel!

Those are just Quick Disconnect Sleeves.
They are over Open Barrel Quick Disconnects.

Both can be found on AkihabaraShop.jp site.

SR-110 QD sleeves. you can buy some from AkihabaraShop for 1,395Ā„ a pack.

I searched everywhere but could not find anything.

Does anyone know if the VX is Mac compatible? It works on the PC but I can’t get it to work on the Mac.
