NEW Hori Fighting Stick VX (360) & V3 (PS3) Thread

yeah it’s 24mm, give or take a mm

nothing crazy, just needed to drill in the screw holes in the restrictor plate.

Hey guys, first time modder and first time post. Quick question, sorry if its a dumb one, but to mount the JLF I need to drill out the holes on the restrictor plate. What size drill bit do I need? Also, can I use the existing screws? If not, what size and length screws do I need to buy? I don’t know anything about drills and screws. This is for the V3 btw.

I just moved to Japan a few months ago, so finding all the proper equipment is a pain in the ass for a newbie. Thanks guys.

I upgraded my stick using that JP blog for reference. Here it is:

It was my first time using a soldering iron, but soldering wires together wasn’t too bad. I kept messing up the QDs for some reason but it all worked out in the end.

Just curious, does anyone know where these are still available?

Renchi says they’re sold out so not sure where else you can get it since I didn’t see it on Play-Asia’s website. Try emailing Renchi for an update.

These are all over Japan still. I have no problem finding them when I’m there.

Online retailers is another story.

I got mine from amazon.co.jp. There is an English version of the site, but I’m not sure if they ship international.

Well for any US residents I know Amazon Japan ships there. You have to buy from Amazon itself though (not other sellers/used items).

Also…

AmiAmi also had a few. They’re the website for all Animu goods and other overpriced valuables of the islands. They’re out of stock now, but who knows, maybe one will magically reappear after I cancel my order <_<.

I think you might have to ask them shipping rates via e-mail. I got “to be determined” all the way though the order process (apparently you’re allowed to order before you pay? Irregular for most modern online stores).

Another place I found is Golden Shop HK. They’re a Hong Kong (duh) import group. The website is clearly super aged, they don’t accept Paypal, and you manually e-mail them your order, and then they’ll charge your credit card number accordingly. I’d recommend you ask them for shipping first just in case a shady staff member tries to “Shanghai you”.

I have heard they’re mighty reliable despite the aged website though.

They also have a Chinese knock-off of the Saulabi stick (odd…) and a few HRAP Arcana Heart sticks left.

Sorry if I seem to be advertising.

MarkMan, how does the V3 stick compare in dimensions compared to say a Mayflash or a Namco stick? I want to know if it makes for a good travel stick in the case that it’s small and easy-to-carry. Seems like it’s the latter but not so sure about the former.

I ordered 2 V3s from AmiAmi a couple of weeks ago (I have 5 in total now), will be using them for my Supergun project. The total came out to be $203 with SAL shipping.
Just thought I’d share some pics.

I cracked open my VX, swapped in a JLF (all of the Seimitsu stick options didn’t seem doable with case modification; JLF on the other hand went right in), and Seimitsu G buttons. Loving that stick so far.
I’m looking forward to when the Kitty prototype for it arrives so I can mod it for consoles I actually play on. God I wished the cases were black instead of this off white, though.

I’m curious, is there any particular reason you did the JLF install that way? On mine, I left the mounting plate on and screw it down to the holes shown above and below the JLF in your pic; they HAVE to have been put in just for that purpose, and the stick is rock solid.

Being that it was my first time doing a mod, I just looked at how the other people did it and copied it. I think they did that because of mounting height?? Not sure.

Bumping this thread to see if anybody having any luck getting the Fighting Stick VX in the US? Amazon.jp won’t ship them outside of Japan, Play-Asia is backordered, and Amiami only has the PS3 version in stock. :frowning:

I love the compact design and the six button layout, but as it stands at the moment it might be a lot less painful to get the Hori RAP VX instead.

You may be right about that; when I opened it up recently, there was an obvious wear pattern on the bottom plastic where the bottom of the shaft had just barely been touching and wearing on the plastic. Mounting it without the plate may prevent that.

I can probably get one of these used for 2,000 JPY used(PS3), question is whether I want to get a third fight stick or not. Would it be a good idea to get one of these just to learn how to solder, dual mod and etc?

The one thing I really like about this design is that it’s pure 6 buttons. I shall be back in a couple of days to see whether I should get for shits and giggles.

For ~$20? Um…yes. Then sell it to me for $40 and everyone’s happy.

ROLF, it’s a learning project for me.

I was supposed to start with the FS3 2 years ago but I think since after everything(proxy service and air shipping), it’ll probably come out for $50. If I cheap out for SAL shipping, it’ll give me loads of time to look for electronics/soldering tutorials here(anyone have them bookmarked for quick reference)?

I love my VLX and Q3 too much to loan out as “learning sticks” at the moment haha.

I’m guessing that if I do get it, I’ll need:
-Wires and quick disconnects
-voltmeter
-dual compatible PCB
-solder
-Sanwa stick and sanwa clear buttons(my VLX is full seimitsu, Q3 is a mix of Seimitsu and Sanwa)
That’s it?

Those are my next 2 high-end sticks (well, Q3 EMP that is)! Which do you like better between the 2 stock for stock? Thx!

Both play the same, but offers two different experiences.
VLX: Hollow, cold and badass
Q3: Sturdy, quiet and easily travel accessible.

I’m liking my VLX more now that it’s full Seimitsu but since MvC3 is so popular at local casuals, Sanwa buttons seem to play better for it plus VLX/V3/VX really excels on a table top(lack of wrist room) whereas the Q3 has loads of it.

Where are you getting this? I want a 360 one but I’m holding out for a $50 price.

Yahoo Auctions Japan, 2,000 JPY starting bid, chances are, that it will end up less than 3,000 JPY since Ami Ami offers a new FSV3 for 3,700 JPY. No other listing for VX at the moment.
