NEW Hori Fighting Stick VX (360) & V3 (PS3) Thread

Thanks for the tips. I resoldered all of my wires and this time I just used the very tip of the iron, and it worked well. The final thing I have left to do on this stick is to obtain the daisy chain and connect it to the ground wire. Instead of buying connectors and such and making my own daisy chain, could I just get this and cut it off at 6? http://www.focusattack.com/10-connection-110-ground-daisy-chain-wire/

Get it, and leave the last 2 hanging. Tape the ends or tuck them away to prevent short outs. Might be handy if you decide to relocate your L3/R3 later on for some 8 button layout. Worked like a champ in mine.

Edit: Or cut it, if you really want. lol

I did it!!!

It looks really messy down there though. Is there a chance something will accidentally stop working because of that?
Either way… thank you VERY much whoever helped me so generously (BartStation, Brigandier, etc.) You guys are the best, and with this I’ll think about modding it with a JLF and maybe even dual mod, as there are tons of info already on them in this thread. <3 <3

Not insulating each of those splices, something not good will happen.

Ahh. I have a couple extra .110 quick connector insulation sleeves left. Will those work? or is there something specific that I need?

As long as they’re covered, you’re good. You can even just roll up some electrical tape on it.

its like duct tape for electronics

Looks good, and really digging the pink balltop. Electrical tape is probably the best bet, or you could try to fit some heat shrink tubing over the QD, then slide it up to the joint (might be tricky though, easier to do before you solder). You also might check if the QDs have enough clearance for the bottom to go on well, I have seen several pics with them bent at an angle so I assumed there wasn’t and did the same, not sure though.

Hi I was wondering if anyone went on and made this stick an 8 button Vewlix layout. I understand that that would probably mean completely obliterating the stick face and inside frame but I just wanna know if it’s possible. I think someone put a 24mm button on the face iirc. I’m just really curious to know if anyone has went that distance.

why would you do that? 6 button retail stick is already rare these days and a lot of ppl here like this stick because it only has 6 face buttons.

I have one that I’m gonna keep six buttons but I like using it for other games just cause its the ideal size and weight. having to reach up off the joystick is kind of annoying. I feel you though on that 6 button layout though. It’s way to comfortable for fighting games. Haha.

Look in the pic a few posts up, and you can see a large ribbon cable going from the panel to the control board. Looks to me like you could just wire each button into that parallel to the original panel buttons, so your new buttons or the original buttons work at the same time. There also looks to be room to drill for the additional two 30mm buttons, with a bit of plastic trimming so they have room around them.

But has anyone attempted this defilement? I feel like I’d be better off buying a Brawlstick right now off Amazon. I’m just thinking that it would be sick to have 8 face buttons for Ps1 games and stuff. The ribbon cable is actually kind of taut so it would be stretched out to the Max. I guess extending them would be an option but I’d feel more confident if there was a feller who dunit.

No one in this thread has done it to my knowledge, that’s why YOU have been chosen. Go forth, and dominate.

This is gonna be an interesting few weeks. The ribbon cable was actually twirled around a few knobs. It looks long enough. Time to look for tutorials of how to cut through metal plates. XD. Do any long time modders have any tips? Also another quick question. Since two buttons will no longer be used at the top how will I plug up those holes. =/ It crossed my mind earlier as I was taking it apart. I want it to look as clean as possible.

You can sand the plastic and use a plastic sealer or something to make it all even. As for drilling get a Forstner bit that can go through the metal. I recommended a forstner bit because regular hole saws’ teeth sometimes bend and warp.
Also measure a billion times cut once.

Forstner Bits are something I’ve been meaning to save up for. I can’t find my dad’s old set. Plus they might be rusty as fug right now.

Can anyone confirm that there is no L3/R3 connectors. I forgot what page the diagram for the PCB and daughterboard were on. I don’t see one right now and it would be sad to see two buttons potentially go to waste.

I’m really not seeing any so scratch that notion. Hopefully I could get this done before August ends. I’ll probably be one of few to have an 8 button V3. XP Thanks for the advises so far.

Okay so last post before I go to the modding zone. Has anyone been able to dual mod there V3 or VX? I have an idea of what I can use the no longer L2/R2 buttons. I just don’t think there’ll be enough room. Sorry I haven’t skimmed through this thread enough to see what everyone has done but from what I’ve seen so far its inspiring me that much more to do this mod.

May I suggest you actually go over the ENTIRE thread before you begin to mod your stick. You’ll learn more that way too!

Good Luck with the mod

i’ve done it, a bunch of other people have done it
the information is out there
