NEW Hori Fighting Stick VX (360) & V3 (PS3) Thread

1/4" or 5/16" drill bit.

Ugg, was trying to avoid drilling. Is there any stick that fits in this beauty? I can deal with not having a JLF as long as there is something out there I can easily replace my stock stick with. Any help would be appreciated guys.

Can’t you widen with your Rotary Tool then?

Hmmm…do you mind posting up pics of your JLF in a V3? I’d like to see what I’m dealing with exactly. Or should I just refer to freedomgundam’s photos (aren’t his pictures of an intec combat)?

Actually, the photos were taken from Laugh’s Paewang Revolution stick (I photoshopped in the instructions), but the concept is the same in the Intec Combat and (from what the guys here tell me) on the Hori FS VX/V3. So the image isn’t 100% accurate to what you’ll see in the FS VX/V3, but the work you’ll have to do is identical, if you choose to go this route.
Just out of curiosity, how come you’re totally fine with doing the dremel work, but not the drilling work?

Because I don’t own a drill, lol.

My VX is arriving this coming Thursday. This being my first stick, I figure I’ll get my money’s use out of the stock parts for a bit, but eventually, it’s going to be modded. I already know which buttons to get, how to wire and ground them(I’ve helped a brother mod previously) but I’m a bit hesitant to buy a stick I know nothing about. I’m pretty set on a JLF stick, but there seems to be several models.
Can anyone recommend a Sanwa stick and list what modifications would have to be done to the stick to make it fit. (I saw a post on page 7 that told me to dremel off part of the case, and I rather not make irreversible change to the case).
When I helped with a mayflash mod, he had to break ā€œcommon groundā€ (?) on a circuit board of some kind that came with the stick he bought, is that necessary?

One more noonish question, what’s a harness ._.

Any Sanwa JLF will go in.
All Sanwa JLF are the same; some just have different suffix to show what is added on.

Here the six variations listed in Sanwa Catalog ('07~'08):
JLF-TP-8 is Base JLF.
JLF-TP-8Y is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90°.
JLF-TP-8T is Base JLF with JLF-P-1 (Flat Mounting Plate).
JLF-TP-8YT is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90° with JLF-P-1 (Flat Mounting Plate).
JLF-TP-8S is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90° with JLF-P-1S (S Mounting Plate).
JLF-TP-8Y-SK is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90° with JLF-CD (Shaft Cover).

Of course other variations can be done too:
JLF-TP-8-SK, JLF-TP-8T-SK, JLF-TP-8S-SK, JLF-TP-8YT-SK.

I’ll just add this for completeness, since it is JLF:
JLF-TM-8 can do; JLF-TM-8T, JLF-TM-8T-SK, JLF-TM-8S, JLF-TM-8S-SK.

You can use any of those.

JLF-TP-8 you will modify the JLF Base and mount into the Case…
JLF-TP-8Y you will modify the JLF Base and mount into the Case.
JLF-TP-8T you will remove the Mounting Plate, modify the JLF Base and mount into the Case.
JLF-TP-8YT you will remove the Mounting Plate, modify the JLF Base and mount into the Case.
JLF-TP-8S you will remove the Mounting Plate, then modify the JLF Base and mount into the Case.

(I’m just explaining for some. There are of course more variations.)

You see that I did not mention anything with [SK]?
That is because it is nothing to how Sanwa JLF fit into HORI Fighting Stick V3 or VX.
It is just a Shaft Cover; there for looks.

All the modding is the same.
Those who modify the Case are weird.
Just modify the Joystick itself; cutting off the two tabs.

wait, so i can skip dremelling or drilling into the case as long as I make modifications to the jlf? Can someone post photos of the modifications needed to be made to the stick, please? If it has already been done, sorry. I must have missed it.

Harness is a cord or bundle of wires attached to a connector on one end.

For you, the Sanwa JLF uses the JLF-H (part number) wire harness

Some Seimtsu joysticks come with the HP-5 wire harness which is identical to the Sanwa JLF-H harness except the wires are in diffrent colors.

If you needed a harness for a Mad Catz TE, you will want the JLF-TE wire harness.

This is a image of a JLF with out the mount plate.

See those 2 side tabs that stick out? They have a hole in each side.

Those are the tabs jdm714 is talking about, cut those tabs off so the base of the JLF joystick is a square shape.

A TIP for those who are putting in a new joystick or new micro switches in the VX/V3, keep a note of what color wire goes to what switch on the original joystick. If you have to write it down or take photos. Remember the switches positions will be inverted to the actual directions. As you push up on the joystick’s lever for example your hitting the bottom micro switch

Thanks a lot guys, going to order my stick soon.

Can anyone repost the .PSD for the template please? The zip file 404’s.

The Template is available in this Thread.
The link is not dead.

Is this the link you’re talking about?: http://wahp.jp/FightingStick_V3&VX_Template_300dpi.psd.zip

It gives me a 404 not found.

Nope, that is not.
The one is in this Thread still.

If you can’t find that one still, then website of blklightning21 has also.

I went blklightning21’s site and found it. Thanks for the help.

Wow, my first day on the SRK forums and you guys reply within one hour at 9AM Sunday morning. You guys rock
I’ve found a complete **Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK **joystick on Focus Attack. This has probably been answered into oblivion previously, but just to clarify, after I mount the stick in the case, I just take the wires from the PCB and do… what exactly to the stick? Do I solder the wires onto the stick(I’ve got a picture from a previous page that should help with what goes where) or is there a simple QD system I could do? (Or should I wire it and then mount it? )
edit: If it sounds like I have no idea what I’m talking about, it’s because I have no idea what I’m talking about.

Here is my Recent Hori VX Mod

The top side, Smoke Bubble top and matching Smoke Seimitsu Buttons with some custom labels for the remapped layout

Obligatory wire photo, I had the stick dual-modded with a spare Chimp

Closer look at the Dual Mod wiring. its no Super God Wiring, but I try to keep it neat.

How to find the spots to solder for the Select, Start and Home buttons. They are the last 3 points on the Upper (10 pin) ribbon cable that runs over to the guide/ Turbo PCB. I had the points labeled in the image so others can find the points better.
The 2 Gray wires on top are for the RB and LB buttons, which had a spot on the board but not carried over by the button harness in the top of the photo.
The normal button ribbon connector has its pins labeled as you can see.
Yes there are 2 spots on the main PCB to solder to for start.

Note: I do not know if this is the same on the V3 as this is the VX main PCB.

And before you ask, I did not leave the stock joystick un-moddified.
I replace the switches with SanwaMS-0-2 Micro Switches(same kind as in the JLW) I also replace the stock spring with a JLF Spring and a LS-32 spring
Keep in mind I removed the MS-0-2 Levers

If you have any other questions I will try to answer them.

Got plans for any custom art? I’m also curious as to how you switch consoles with the dual mod.
Can I get a brighter picture of the top?
