Lol @ myself for posting same shit 12 times. I got you man, no harm no foul. Have a few personal things going on that is making it a little difficult. An alternative place would certainly be of great help. I think i’ll head to the arcade and discuss a game night more in depth with them today after work.
Brian I see you in the Boston threads hunting down a CES marvel 3 copy. Hopefully you were going to share with us all and not keep it all to yourself =p.
YEah i mean i would host but i live at home which is super shitty, i would go to like manch or whatever if possible to host there. Lawrence maybe time you and i go starting scouting venues to hold mines at? Cause as of now consistency on tuesday in both hosting and attendance (one hand washes the other) has not been good. In no way is this a complaint man i completley understand where your coming from. I would gladly go with you to scout out new joints or brainstorm some ideas. We can even contact some COD guy maybe smash people to get attendance up. I dunno just a thought lemme know what everyone thinks, we should truly work as a community
Nobody cares about blaz blue NOBODY ! Although im must admith its very fun to watch, i enjoyed watchign you and kraig play, on that note i wish i had known ahead of time it was just gonna be BB night i coudl save time and gas lol
Ummm, attendance was bad even when I pushed to have it EVERY single Tuesday which is why it originally stopped in the first place. It literally ended up being the Kraig, Tim, Rich, Black Guy show, so no, one hand does not wash the other. It is also the main reason why Dragon’s is now six feet under as well.
As Weaksauce has put it plenty of times in the Mass forums, this region is lazy and isn’t even taking advantage of the venues people are going out of their own way to provide, yet there is a need for more? Combined with the fact that SSF4 is the only game people wanted (still want) to play and you have close-minded, lazy people unappreciative of what’s provided until, well, there was (is) nothing around at all and here we are.
I personally would love to not have to take the point in finding another venue. My place can and will still be open, I simply need to find a consistent format that works for me. We honestly need a new weekly venue to attend since I would have an easier time running Mines Bi-Weekly than every single week, since every week is a bit different for me in a work sense.
We can certainly spend weeks looking for a new spot but what would we tell them about the amount of people they can expect. Dragon’s turned into a true embarrassment and one that became a complete waste of time, so we started to go to GU. We have newer players who have posted about interesting spots for venues (arcades, restaurants et al) then disappeared into the wind without another word.
So when people aren’t satisfied with simply running their mouths and bring something tangible to the table we can make movements. People flapping their lips is how we ended up with shit like chia pets and Sham-Wow…great. You guys know I am ready to put my money where my mouth is to provide whatever we need to at least keep the few players we have consistently together and playing what’s hot and hopefully entice others to come out more often.
I don’t have to do the Marvel Room, its something I want to do in an effort to provide something fun for all of this crew to enjoy. Appreciate the offer Tim in opening your home for those of us willing to drive! At the end of the day if you got an idea, do the research, present it, have something in place and run a test night. Get other communities like Mass involved to bolster the chance of good attendance. We can start going back to GU weekly for all I care if consistency ends up being the result…:karate: Rant End
brian… you act like it was a big plan to screw you or something. With the weather and whatnot, everything was up in the air so I contacted the people whose numbers I have and said that people could come play games at my hotel room. I also posted here and monitored it to see if anybody responded. What happened was nothing anybody planned, and you know we would teach you the game if you wanted. Furthermore, you live like 15 minutes away from the hotel i’m in. For reference, Tim and I routinely drive about an hour and I’ve never heard tim complain–and you always ask for a ride from your house to laurence’s–which is a total of 5 minutes. come on, man.
tim, hot matches. I supremely enjoy our matches and the obscene amount of options and reactions we run through. good stuff. with all the great game releases recently (lbp2, dead space 2, nba jam) I haven’t been playing much bb, but the frame for my tager drawing (thanks dan, if you ever lurk here anymore–post the hell up!!!) is coming soon so keep me on this so I keep getting better.
Evo 2k11: mvc3, ssf4 (ae if dropped by june 1), tekken 6, bb:cs(II if released by june 1 so this is pretty much definite), and MK9.
also, love mr. wizard straight up shitting on people: “if you can’t learn your game in two months there’s something wrong with you” and “it’s time to evolve past the trolling, past the crap”.
yes, very hype matches last night. we need to get more games in before marvel comes out. rich and i are thinking of going to winterbrawl and i would want to be ontop of my game in the tager match up.
So I’m not putting anyone on blast or being hostile towards anyone but after a while (and several mondays where literally the attendance was me, LuckyD, AsianTom, and CP) something that always kinda lingered in my head was was that “why is it that the New Hampshire people stopped going to Souperbowl”
Both places (souperbowl and New Blood’s place) were going down in attendance but why not just combine both? Distance couldn’t have been the issue since Souperbowl is literally 10 minutes away from 5 Dragons (your original venue) so why is it that we split up?
Now we’re in a situation where both places are effectively taking a break at the same time.
“saltmines” isn’t really on any kind of break… we just get together whenever laurence (newblood) is available on any respective tuesday. obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but I stopped going because I got tired of driving down. I only went to 5 dragons (OUR ORIGINAL VENUE) twice and that place is just as far as souper is. I SUPPOSE we could combine our efforts, although I don’t really see the point… we’re a pretty small group and only two of us really play SF. I just know that it’s not in my best interest to drive 2 hours to play a few matches of sf casually…
I agree with this notion. We are all pretty friendly with each other so getting together is more about chillin than actually grinding something out. The issue steve is that we don’t have one polarizing game that really brings us all together since our tastes are wildly different.
I personally don’t care much for either SF4 or BB as these guys know. It’s really just Rich and Brian and even then I am not sure how fond each is of said game. On the other hand we have blaze blue players and you will find that is met with quite a bit of resistance as well. Like Rich said we are few since the other half of our contingent is aloof, lacks transportation, or not interested enough even occasionally make the trip to my spot.
There would be no issues if there were a game that everyone enjoyed equally much like the scene in mass. I have no issues with combining efforts and was more than happy going to Souper Bowl, and GU, but there was a request to bring back Tuesdays so it happened. Then for one reason or another people come or don’t like Rich expressed.
Can’t please everyone and I certainly am not trying to, but I do my best to provide a forum to which people can come and play any game they want and hopefully get some competition in their own personal arena. I believe Tom and LuckyD do the same thing. Everyone here has a mind of their own and will go where they feel they can get the most out of their experience and time (always at a premium), I am no different.
As expressed if someone doesn’t want to make the trip here due to distance, lack of comp, don’t like the people, etc etc, so be it. But before you leave sometimes it is a good idea to throw out a suggestion on how to make the experience better so that an actual “scene” can exist and persist (with or without you).
Mr. Chung if you have any ideas to “combine” efforts I am all ears man. :nunchuck:
I mean from your post previously it sounded like you guys were suffering the same thing as Souperbowl casuals (not a lot of attendance).
I just figured if we came to a consensus and maybe convened together than the lack of attendance won’t be so bad (whether we play BB or SSF4 or whatever)
You have a history of demolishing the credibility of any and every fighting game that does not have the label Super Street Fighter 4 on the cover or doesn’t have Guile in it. Say what you like regarding how you are behind closed doors, but I have heard far too many of your random diatribes on how “ass” BB is (for example) and have yet to this day heard one educated reason as to why you believe that. Trying to be a community here man and regardless of its size mutual respect amongst those that want to and are trying to be apart of it is of the utmost importance.
Taking the opinions of others and making it your own is childish and when last I checked you aren’t one so let’s try to be a bit more tactful in how we approach new or foreign things. We have played Melty and Sengoku BasaraX for gods sake. If something isn’t your cup of tea DON’T COME. It is certainly a lot better than hearing you or anyone mouth off about something they know NOTHING about.
If you opened your eyes to other games and sat down and learned one or two of them you would be a better SF4 player for it. Name any top level player you want (locally or otherwise) and I think you will find each has a history in more than one fighting game that helped with their execution, mindset etc and the list goes on. Do you listen to the podcasts? Read the interviews? Ask your own peers? Tons of examples of this point all around you.
If you want to come to Marvel Room or Souper Bowl or GU, cool, but come with an open mind and ready to learn. Anyone running any event is taking their own time and (and MONEY) to provide it and am positive would echo the same sentiments.
@sc2970: Any idea you can provide is well worth looking into. Let me know whom I need to speak with regarding such consolidation and we can take it from there. Rejecting any idea without a counter solution is foolish imo. Thanks in advance.
Hey this is to all the people who are trying to regularly go to your new wizard pinball arcade. Until they have there own thread, one this should be talked about for meet ups. two, they have a couple surprises on there way and are totally looking out for the fighters. and three the big one
The player (S) TGF is gonna take the high scores of all the non fighters. So when you walk into the arcade and see all the pacman/galaga/donkey kong jr scores with TGF as the name, you know who its from.
Once the Area 51 cab gets fixed there’s no way you will be getting a higher score than me. I have given that game several hundred dollars, easily, over the course of my life. Also, the korean baby game. alex and i got that shit on lock.
