New Gundam Vs. title countdown

Not gonna happen.

They are not going to make a console port while every game center in Japan is still paying $26,000+ for the newest upgrade each year. This title is designed specifically to support the Japanese arcade industry. You’re lucky you even get to play it on PSP.

woot woot 4 more hours!

>.> Except I’m not much of a mecha anime fan, so I have really no idea what it could be. I just like the games.

Gundam EXTREME VS.

On the other hand, there’s nothing stopping them from doing just what they’ve been doing with Tekken for the last few years, PS3 AND PSP.

It goes without a doubt that Tekken and GvG are the two most popular and invaluable ips that Bandai-Namco can rely on, as far as the arcade market goes. The only difference is that, as an overall by-product of Gundam being marketed poorly in the West, GvG’s range, as of now, is much more limited.

However, I’m thinking that change could be possible. First of all, the newest Gundam series, Unicorn, is being marketed worldwide. You can place preorders for the first OVA, on DVD and BluRay, at Amazon right now. With that much underway, it seems that Bamco may actually try to actively market Gundam in the West with some degree of sense. If that much were the case, then a game that’s directly related to that newest Gundam series could be marketed right next to it. And with the PSP being effectively dead in the West, that would spell console port, if they want the game to be taken seriously.

Then there’s the rumor that the game is going to be on newer, and much more expensive hardware. Recouping the costs of such an endeavor would likely be a good reason to try and “extend” the market in itself, unless Bamco are really satisfied with the numbers they got for the PSP port of NEXT (like 470,000 units, per the most recently released reports from their 3rd quarter earnings). And with Namco-Bandai supposedly crying because of an overall bad report last quarter, they could certainly stand to benefit from trying to expand the GvG franchise.

So to me, I wouldn’t count a console port out just yet. Not when there’s a definite possibility to gain. This is especially in light of how well the likes of multiplat Gundam Musou and its sequel did both in Japan, and abroad.

A console port of some sort is probably a likely thing… after the game has been out for a while and the next update is under production :V

thats really lame…the psp is a shitty fucking system, and I wouldn’t even enjoy playing it on a handheld.

Wow… What a bunch of assholes.

edit: nvm, not THAT bad if what /m/'s saying is true (no idea how long that’ll be up). That does it, guess I’m finally getting a PS3.

*New Gundam VS game revealed, machine to start in fall 2010.

Created with a PS3-level board so graphics are a lot better. The keyword is “evolution to the limits!”

Series list:
Gundam, Zeta, ZZ, CCA, F91, V, G, W, X, Turn A, Seed, Destiny, 0080, 0083, 08th MS Team, 00, Unicorn, CROSSBONE, IGLOO

There will be more additions.

System: No major changes. Eight-way level, four buttons, 2 vs 2.
PS3 base system 357 board.
To start in fall but location testing will begin in summer.
Graphics to be the best ever by Bandai Namco.
No fine details yet.
Serial numbers can be seen in the movie and so you can figure out what the unrevealed units are.*

Good list.

Any way, you still got a while to wait. Wouldn’t expect any type of port until after New Year’s at the earliest.

I better get a ps3 port or I’m moving to nippon.

Considering the hardware, it’ll have a PS3 port unless Banmco ends up being straight stupid. Hopefully they’ll add some more stuff in addition to Next Dash.

I was going to, but I didn’t, and still don’t, see anything on that site…

It says PS3. That’s all that really matters, or needs proof, considering there’s trailer shots of Zudah and Crossbone Gundam X-1 out there.

Which is why that’s the only part I mentioned in my post… I’m not sure why you’re getting all butthurt over a link.

Both GvG and GvG: Next run on PS2 hardware and never got a PS2 port. VS Extreme running on PS3 hardware is not surprising, but it in no way implies that the game will ever come to PS3 consoles.

Does anyone have a link to a site with solid information on this game? Every time I watch a video I just see a bunch of fucking lasers coming from at least 4 different sources minimum, I have no idea what the hell is happening.

I’m not sure why you’re getting butthurt about just copying and pasting stuff so it doesn’t disappear when a 4chan thread 404s.

The PSP hardware is PS2 based as well. GvG still got ports to like architecture. Unless a PSP2 running a Cell pops up sometime soon, a PS3 port is pretty much a given. A US release…eh.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: AEUG vs. Titans, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam are a bit slower paced and easier to follow to get a bit of an idea for it, although they have a bit different movement systems than later games and I can’t find any arcade videos of them anymore. It’s kind of like Virtual On, where your goal in ranged combat is to catch someone either at the end of a dash or position yourself so that they’re moving at an angle that doesn’t evade your shot, although the newer Vs. games give you so much movement freedom that’s a lot more complicated, and they have somewhat more developed melee combat and subsystems.

A PS3 port will be a “given” when its announced and given a release date.

And not before then. Game will be PSP/arcade exclusive until undeniably proven otherwise.
