In about a week from now (and just in time for AOU 2010, no less!), the newest game in the ever popular Gundam vs. series will make an appearance. Arcade release will soon follow later this year.
If I were a betting man, this smells of a possible tie-in with the upcoming Unicorn OVA 5 parter, coming later this year. But we shall see.
In any case, I’m hoping that this will be the time that the series will finally move to System 357 (PS3-based board, same thing Tekken 6 used). Not only would that pretty effectively confirm PS3 port status, but it would just be nice to finally see Gundam vs. move to newer and more powerful hardware.
While 00 does have a movie coming out, I’m still thinking that this game might end being more of a UC party, thanks to Unicorn’s OVA 5 parter (starting next month) being the main source of Gundam-related hoopla for the next foreseeable cycle.
Any way, if this was going to be simply another update to what we got for the last two years, I don’t think Bamco would be so bothered with secrecy. I certainly don’t remember this type of count-down thing going on before NEXT was unveiled so relatively soon after the original Gundam vs. Gundam, to say the least. Makes me think this might be something new and exciting…and hopefully on Sys 357.
Honestly, that’s kinda disappointing… I guess the GvGNP DLC is kind of exciting (although PSP online seriously sucks balls), but focusing on a specific series (with really not that many mecha) seems like a step in the wrong direction.
Hopefully we’ll someday get a full-fledged sequel to GvGN (with a console port).
