Pretty sure SRKers have better things to do this weekend than get beat up by cops.
No I missed it. I didn’t know about it, but there was one in my town I would have gone to had I the time.
It was made 5.5 hours before it started though, so I’m not surprised no one knew. If they made it next Friday/Sat then people would have gone.
fun fact: getting fibre hooked up to your home adds about $3000 value to your home.
As if you needed better reasons for your cities to support projects like Google Fibre.
I think most of us just gave up. I mean protesting against TARP or Obamacare or the number of corporate welfare that happens didn’t do anything. Even complaining about Congress insider trading didn’t work, they wrote an act and just exempted themselves from it.
Any real protest puts you on the NSA radars and that’s even worse.
I mean what do you really want from us?
Empires rise and fall. Usually the economy is what drives both, but especially the fall. If we fall behind on internet and who knows what other new technology is going to come, then the US will fall soon after. And I don’t know about you, but I’ll just leave. Ha. Instead of making life hard for yourself and sticking out, just go with it and then leave for someplace better. That’s the only way for us small fry to “win.”
People are trying to get everything on the cheap due to the economy and wages flatlining in many fields, so forget about trying to sell a house for that much more…this is just more home equity for retards to milk and find themselves that much more in debt before they get kicked out of their homes. Does ANYONE use home equity responsibly these days?
Yeah…there’s no way I could’ve went to that protest.
I never did get a letter back from my congressman.
Let’s do this Obama…
Make this shit happen Obama and I’ll stop calling you terrible.
He won’t make it happen. He doesn’t have the spine. Look what happened with Obamacare.
Probably not.
He’ll talk his good shit, then have the exact opposite of what he said would happen happen.
But I can dream.
And now that Republicans have taken over Congress, we can kiss any hope for net neutrality goodbye.
Not that it matters, they can’t stop shit.
A utility? That means we’ll be charged via usage. That means they will also regulate online content. The regulators will be the ones to distinguish “lawful” and “unlawful” content.
No.
Exactly. The Obama cheerleaders are so ridiculous.
Look we had the internet this way for all this time. The government whenever it touches something will only MAKE IT WORSE!
This is how the US will fall. Other countries that won’t regulate and won’t create monopolies will fly far ahead.
And again, so what? Just move to those new places. Humans have migrated all of history. Whenever government gets too big it destroys everything. That’s where the US is now. Once it collapses, things will be good for awhile until someone else consolidates power and repeats the process.
Chile has Net Neutrality and everything about controlling it is dead talk in here.
Net neutrality can easily be preserved by us filing suit against all parties who voted for the bill, claim your bandwidth as a possession, claim it as a tort against your possessions and it is damage against your contract with a third party. The votes for the bill name them as conspirators. Under common law jurisdiction which a good portion of countries honor this is a fairly cut and dried case.
…great Firewall of China says otherwise
anywho: http://theoatmeal.com/blog/net_neutrality
oatmeal fucking goes HAM on Senator Ted Cruz who has no fucking clue what Net Neutrality is, even after getting sponsor money from ISP’s and Comcast, after he makes this genius comment:
If you regulate the internet as a utility, you could also make rules on how to charge for it. It doesn’t strictly have to be about usage. In fact, Obama’s stance on net neutrality is that you don’t charge by usage. But giving it a utility banner also means it can’t run as a private business and must serve its people to the best of its ability.
The government already regulates online content, usually via DNS index removal or the like.
What are you complaining about, they’re going to track internet piracy harder? They’ve already got all the legal tools they need to do pretty much whatever they want.
It’s not about piracy. I’m talking about the content itself. Anything and everything you do and say online will be deeply inspected and looked at as either “lawful content” or “unlawful content.” All types of content that are delivered and distributed on the Internet would be controlled.
