Later on in the skill trees can you add different attack strings to your character besides the ones that are orignally asigned?
I just started using my character card Krillin. Man, he’s dope. His Kamehameha is charagble like Goku’s and his Super Distructo deals a lot of damage.
One of the things I really like about SDBZ is the combos. I’m hearing some fans whine about the controls but I think they are perfect for this game. If you’ve played SF or KOF then you’ll feel right at home. Launch an opponent in the air and pull off a super for an extra 4-5 hits. Too good.
I also like the look of the game. I’m guessing the SFII producer was a huge Dragon Ball manga fan because it really shows.
SF was inspired by dragon ball. No joke.
Edit: And definitely get improved sidestepping speed and solar flare for Krillin. Those two skills are flawless.
I just got into Inherited Skills today, gave Majin Vegeta’s counter to Trunks. Counter to Homing Light, then Heavy>Heavy>Slash Break super does 120 damage.
Stupid question, anyone get Maou Rebirth Ranbu with Piccolo? And if so what is the command in english cause I’m reading it as a star from the command list:confused: , and so I’m trying that input to no avail.
EDIT: And I know the skill trees were available in the arcade version so what are people thinking on the balance of the game wtih the customized characters, and having stock characters.
Their are a lot of ways to bait someone who turtles and from what I can tell everyone has a throw setup.
Example:
Goku vs 18

Can I get some help with Buu in SDBZ? I wanna pick up him, Cell, and/or Trunks.
Ha, well you could say I’m a scrub. I didn’t even own the game, but how can you play non-scrubby if you can just kill someone with those 4-teleport hits which is near impossible to avoid if your chi is low. Once the first one connects its over. I mean yah, of course theres depth but its still a shallow game compared to other fighters. You can argue all you want but I still say theres no such thing as high level play in Budokai. You see, you can call me a scrub all you wan’t, but a couple years ago, I was king in Budokai 1 and 2 and in my opinion those games were better because they were more straight forward. The only exception being balance, and guesssing games in Budokia 2. The guessing games are pretty stupid IMO. That alone can either make you, or break you, theres no sure fire way to win unless you look at your friends controller before he picks it. How lame, high level play. Sure when you counter everything just by looking at your friends controller. Then when Tenkaichi came out. Woah! I bought a PS2 for THAT game! It was incredible. The competition between me and my friend was fierce. The game was so unbalanced though it wasn’t even funny. Well, pretty much our battles looked like the T.V. show at first. Then the competition became outrageous and we exploited the game. What it came down to…Kid Goku=GOD TIER. He pretty much has infinite after images. Impossible to win if Kid Goku is in the hands of a good player. Then Power to the Very Limit Favorite Technique=God Tier. This is pretty much how me and my friend played this game at high level. Pokes, Ki Blasts, and when the favorite technique gauge was charged a Power to the Very Limit and then a Super Finishing Move to follow up. The mixup here was after the Power to the Very Limit in close range the other character pretty much goes into something similiar to guard crush. Then you immediately follow up with a Super Finishing Move which is only SOMETIMES blockable. It depends how fast you can pull it off. Sometimes though if you know there going to be able to block you throw and then shoot the S.F.M. In Tenkaichi it all boils down to a poking/guessing game in high level play. I know my Budokai so please don’t call me a scrub because I know I could most certainly beat your ass in anyone except for 3 which was the worst one IMO. Budokai 3 had the most guess work and balance issues due to attack ups, etc.
Just got a skill up with Krillin but I don’t know which one to choose!! I’ve a choice between these three:
Homing Blast
After Image
Solar Flare
They all sound so good but I couldn’t decide which one to get so I didn’t make a choice and decided to hold off. A little help?
Regular turtling isn’t so hard to beat…but its a challenge to beat someone who turtles behind HA (hard+block) alot. I discovered that tonight.
solar flare makes for some nice combos…with Cell anyways…
Not sure what the other ones do.
uhhh…your talking to the wrong person. Sprawlers is your guy. I’m not gonna argue with you about B3’s “depth”, I agree with ya. Hell, I don’t even like B3. Its just what you said you do was not very “advanced.”
DEFINITELY get Solar Flare with Krillin. It allows for some really long and unfair combos.
I’ll post up some Trunks stuff later when I’m more awake.
Did you even read what I wrote?
Teleports will lead to your demise if and only if you use them wrong. And from what you wrote, that seems apparent. Whoever said you needed to attack after a teleport? If you teleport, and you know you leave yourself open, DON’T ATTACK. Or just poke with P to bait a teleport, and if it works, you just evened out the playing field.
As for the 4 teleport hits when your ki is low, the whole point of a match is to maintain your ki. If you don’t do that, you’re getting owned, as simple as that.
And when it comes to BT, Kid Goku isn’t god tier. After images can easily be baited with ordinary melee attacks. SSJ Gogeta and Piccolo FTW. SSJ Gogeta with maxed finish sign deals too much damage, and Piccolo has a quick blast ball growth rate plus very fast max power that can be done with two blast balls, and he’s got the auto counter. Plus he’s exceptional in melee. He’s very difficult to parry if you make use of his charge attacks.
And if you get really close to someone with power up to the very limit, you’ll still end up being too close to be hit by a super move. I won’t argue BT’s depth, but I’ll help you out with character specific strategies.
Q and A
So im planning a little write up of super Dbz for 1up.com, featuring some some gameplay tips and a small Q and A with the developers.
any questions you guys want to ask the developers?
Geez, the computer’s acting so slow (or is it the site) that I wonder if my msgs are sent… then when I check, BAM, there’s like 3 of them.
Alright, here’s a question from many people who are trying to see the mix-ups in this game:
Q: When people are guarding, its always important to mix them up so that they need to guess to defend themselves, or else they take damage from the offence. In this game, the only universal method of getting by people who turtle all day is throwing. There are character specific moves to get by this, but only those can go so far, and not everyone can do them. Other than grabbing, is there anyway to defeat people who choose to turtle? That works for everybody?
ive only played this game for a couple hours and i can already tell this is way off base. flying over somebody’s head and dropping down with a cross up/non cross up attack/landing and throwing is one of the cheapest mixups ive seen in fighting games.
most characters’ single-hit W attacks give frame advantage. easy mix up there.
freeza can do rocks, then teleport behind you to cross you up, then combo off the rocks. the other guy counters this by hitting freeza out of the teleport. if the other guy looks for this, freeza can counter by simply getting closer and letting the guy block/get hit by the rocks. he can then use that frame advantage for a simple hit/throw mix up, or jump on and do the cross up mix up.
a ton of characters have projectiles that remain active for a long time, letting you follow it in for a free mix up
it sounds like you want a bunch of canned mix up strings
…and 17/18’s canned throw mix up is terrible
Everyone has at least 2 throw setups and you can bait them.
Few throw setups:
jump, fly , unfly—>throw(you can also fly, unfly, fly, unfly just to trick someone)
dash weak (blocked) weak+guard dash cancel—> throw
block+jump dash—> throw
Those are just a few.
Remember, turtling doesn’t limit you to guarding. Why is SCII so turtle friendly? Because the sidestep system is broken. Such few attacks have tracking that it is actually possible to sidestep most horizontal attacks. This game has 8 way sidestep, just like SC. Luckily though, it was done just right. As long as someone is making use of that, the chances of crossing someone up are close to null. Cross-ups are actually quite difficult to pull off. You can roll pretty far when you get knocked to the ground.
And the Freeza strategy you mentioned is specifically for one character only; Freeza. I was talking about universal methods, methods that work for everyone. Freeza is top tier specifically for the reasons you mentioned.
Those are all throws. I was asking if there was any thing other than throws that works for everyone to defeat turtlers. Thanks for the input though, I’ll keep those in mind.
Yea, I did read what you wrote when you first posted.
Okay, well thats what we used to do in B3. It was a poke fest to try and bait the teleport counters. We did everything. I used to know a whole bunch of different combos with Cell. Hell, I still think I remember a few, and you could mix them up with charged hits in between and after which led to juggles or energy blasts etc. Plus there was the transformations for guard crush, dash attacks for guard crush, and all kinds of good stuff for implementing different strategies. But that’s how it is in the beggining. I also remember that if you hold O you won’t counter attack after you teleport behind them which could lead to massive damage by combos etc. The thing is this didn’t eventually matter. Me being the casual player here of B3. I only used to play B1 and B2 at the time. My friend is the one who exploited this game. His main was Cooler. His skills he would always use were the transformation skill, and the energy booster skill, so that his energy didn’t drain as fast. Then the energy attack would be that bitch of a close range attack with the Energy Sword. Then he would have 4 slots left. He would add something called like Paouzanrus Tail (sp?), the standard attack up bonus for Cooler, and one more attack up for Cooler. My Cell got his ass OWNED apart after this. At first I would struggle to over come him before he could pull of the item. O, down, down. (I still remember that). And you could hit/blast him while there doing the item to cancel it out. So I would struggle for him not to eat the item. Sometimes he’d get it, sometimes he wouldn’t. The fact is even though your defense goes down by 25 it goes up by 75. So in total in training mode all of his attack ups would increase Coolers attack power to the max. Which I think was 255! Enough to finish someone off with 4-teleport counters. I laughed when I first saw how ridiculous this was. It was no laughing matter. My Cell which had 2nd transformation skill, Perfect transformation, and Super Perfect transformation. So that was 3 skills. Then I would put the character specific attack up skill for Cell on. I would also have 2 Kamehameha skills, and one Spirit Bomb skill. He didn’t stand a chance. I used to be the one who won all the time as well. So I followed his little strategy whatever with attack ups. It complete fucked over the fun, innocent, DBZ gameplay as we knew it. It just ended up being a stare off in the beggining. Each of us shooting off ki blasts here and there to try to keep the other from going into the item command. If you didn’t pull of the item command you lost the round. Since he had the game longer he would normally pull it off more than me. Then the whole match revolved around balancing your chi and teleport baiting and pokes. With the timer at Infinite, our matches would last for about 10-minutes. But eventually some one would get the energy advantadge. Cooler, having better energy then Cell, was the one to win this the most. And then it would lead to a 4-hit teleport counter that would end up in an instant K.O. Since my energy was lower than his when he went into the counter I could not teleport out and I instantly knew I had lost. Not only did I have to deal with that, his energy charged faster than mine. He would usually teleport then do the 4 hit Energy Sword attack right behind me and finish it off with 2 more teleport hits in the beggining of the match=K.O. That was B3 for us.
Now on to BT. Great game at first. BTW my friends Piccolo >! than my SSJ Gogeta. Gogeta in no way is God-Tier he may be Top-tier. Piccolo on the other hand. I’ll give you that. That Scanner Shot is a bitch. His kaiosaken move=a bitch. And special beam cannon packs a wallop, especially after a kaiosaken. = UNBLOCKABLE! Plus piccolo also had a power to the very limit like skill in his arsenal of God-Tierness. I don’t know how you can say Kid-Goku isn’t god tier. Puh, If I could play you with him you would change your mind, COMPLETELY! Wait till’ you see how cheap I can be with him. You can pile up after images so even if they poke you out of it you still have another waiting. You also have the defense booster favorite technique which turns you into a power house not stopped by anything. So pretty much if your after image gets baited by a dragon smash you will still have enough time to go into FM Counter Attack or Kamehameha. You can poke with normal attacks which is best but it’s really hard to deal good damage to a good Kid-Goku at any one single time. I mean Kid-Goku is a cheap character. End of story. My friend, not the same one a different one played Kid-Goku. He was the biggest scrub. I couldn’t believe how bad he was at the game. But he gave me a struggle. He would pile up after images and stand there and shoot kamehameha’s and Counter attacks out the wazoo. If would teleport to dodge them and try to retailiate only to be fooled by an after image. Immediately he would go into another counter attack or Kamehameha. Wash, Rinse, Repeat! The games were still always in my favor me ending our day with usually 10-2 or 10- 1. But it was hard. How I would win was with SSJ2 Gohan(Teen). Pretty High-tiered himself if you ask me. I would bait him out of his teleports then smash on him with close range attacks. I would cancel my dragon smashes to bait him to dash since he didn’t know how to dragon smash guard. Then he would eat them sometimes. He would also eat them when he was in guard which made him go itno fatigue which was not a very good thing to be in when I’m playing. I would go into Power to the Very Limit then Dragon Smash 4 times. Unblockable when in fatigue. Then I would try to dragon smash some more bating him out to enter in the command to fly towards me so I could execute my Super Kamehameha. He was toast. I never had so much of a challenge from a scrub and thats also how I realized how unbalanced this game was. There is depth but it becomes irrelevant after the game is exploited. I can only wait to get this new DBZ game to see how it is. Hope fully it won’t be as bad as the rest of the games. The best DBZ game IMO was Hyper Dimension. I’ve also heard from alot that Shin Butoden was good but I never got to play it myself.
