New DBZ Fighters: Chou Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z: Bukuu Ressen Official Thread

…umm…okay.

So this game is broken then? I really don’t know if I want to waste my money getting another shit DBZ game that can’t be played competitively.

It’s a good game, I’m having fun with it. Lol I actually think those crossups are hot. Crossup, f,f,W and free juggle.

The freeza mixups can be a bitch but if you know what he’s going to do you can counter. I usually dont try to block the rocks much. I jump over them or sidestep usually so I can be free to move when he tries to teleport.

no doubt there was some good info in that decipherable block of text.

to bad no one will take the time and possible risk of detached retinas to read it.

He’s not saying it’s broken, he’s just trying to illustrate how varied the offensive mixups can be in response to Sprawlers saying the game isn’t as varied offensively as the Budokai games.

The throw mixup works just fine. If they keep guarding, you keep throwing. The game lacks a high/low/back/front differentiation, so the only real mixup is throw/hit mixups used in conjunction with projectile based trapping/space control. I’ve played the game for about a day and this much is obvious. Also, sidestepping is slow as balls unless you dash, and it’s very much punishable.

Now because the game doesn’t give you 98437392408750293487502349857 rushdown/mixup options or branches, does not make it depth-inferior by any means. Most of the reason SNK’s KOF series is looked down upon by people is because KOF (and many other SNK games) gives the most advantage to whoever happens to be on the offensive and severly limits defensive options, making rushdown universally the most viable tactic (from what I’ve seen and heard of B3, I get the same impression). Having 9485739458739457 offensive options and 2 defensive options isn’t exactly a good thing unless you REALLY like rushdown, and if that’s the case, play away.

At any rate, if a turtler is turtling correctly, why should he be punished for playing safe?

EDIT: I’d like some help with Buu, if anyone has any advice. =P

Hmph…

^I don’t want to turn this thread into a kof debate by any means, but I just HAD to quote this for the absolute truth.

And I ask again, how is SDBZ doing in Japan, is it being played competitively? Does it have a growing comunity? or has it already faded away in arcades?

^^ I posted a combo/mechanics guide. If you guys have anything to add, please tell me! You can post here. And anyway, onto the responses:

See, that’s what I mean. Its a little disappointing that throws are the only way to get by people who turtle. Some games offer a guard meter, some might offer alot of guard breaking methods.
Plus, some characters are not very effective with projectiles at all.

And yes, sidestepping is punishable, only by attacks that track. And those attacks are melee attacks, on the most part. The main point of sidestepping is to avoid projectiles, and it accomplishes that pretty nicely. Plus, some characters can get beefed up sidestepping speed. My Trunks can sidestep and still avoid #17, #18 and Videl’s dashing grab. I think Ultimate Gohan has the highest natural sidestepping speed. Weight increase brings his sidestepping speed down, I have his sidestepping speed increased, and its the same as my Trunks with improved speed.

Also, turtling is simply only playing defence to lure in your opponent. I think what you mean is defending correctly. I’m not trying to say that offence should be the only viable tactic, but too much defence is much more difficult to punish than it should be in SDBZ.

And rushdown is a viable tactic in B3 only for certain characters. The game does favor characters who are good at it, which is the reason why Piccolo, Dabura and Omega Shenron are top tier. However, rush down is viable for them (mainly Piccolo and Dabura) because they’re so effective at zoning.

And no, SDBZ is not broken, Hell Murder.

Cooler and Cell should have equal energy. Cell’s ki suppressing capsule has the same effects as Cooler’s. And why did you put spirit bomb in your capsule set? You and your friend both knew that hyper mode was too unreliable of a move to use.
And Cooler recovers ki faster than Cell? Interesting.
Oh, and keep in mind every capsule can be countered. Cooler gains reach from transforming. Cell keeps his reach in his forms. So try throwing in a yakon.
If you choose to stay transformed and not use yakon, replace kamehameha with energy field. Its a great move, and can not be teleport countered.

About Piccolo in BT, I found his scatter shot pretty useless. Its so easy to escape, its so easy to have many of the ki blasts missing, and if you really screw up, your opponent can fire a super at you. His special beam cannon, when maxed out, dealt slightly less damage than his scatter shot if you didn’t upgrade it.

You sure about SSJ Gogeta not being god tier? As soon as he activates a maxed finish sign, its pretty much over. His standard melee combos can easily deal damage ranging from 1000-4000. If he lands a charge attack, he deals a few thousand more points of damage. Very high for melee if you ask me. SSJ Gogeta + Finish Sign > Kid Goku. Think about the overall strategy. If Kid Goku sticks to his after images, all SSJ Gogeta has to do is bait them. And as soon as he does, Kid Goku wastes his blast balls, and gets owned badly by SSJ Gogeta’s superior melee. His charge bar is one of the best in the game. Doing a single melee hit, followed by a yellow charge attack in any direction can be very difficult to notice. Kid Goku has pathetic melee damage, and his charge bar isn’t as good as SSJ Gogeta’s.

I find that BT is like SSBM, that the tiers don’t matter anywhere near as much as character specific match ups.

I’ve been playing pretty much only vegeta and majin vegeta with different skill tree’s and they both seem to have a nice amount of effective mixups. The crossups actually work and on top of that majin vegeta has a nice beam game too.

IMO, there is no reason to use Vegeta over Majin Vegeta. Majin Vegeta has excellent projectiles and a comboable counter break. His melee leaves alot to be desired though.

Well Sprawlers, I know that you know alot, but I do too, it’s just hard to explain all the intracacies. I’m just trying to prove that the games are broken, that is all. I’m sure that you know they are too.

Hey, but can you explain why this happened to me?

I’m playing SSJ 4 Goku, my friend is playing SSJ3 Goku. I’m in Max Power or Sparking! Whatever you want to call it. I’m dragon smashing him and following up with dragon homing attacks trying to bait him into inputting the comand to teleport homing counter me. He finally inputs the command and dragon dashes towards me and I’m ready to counter with a Super Finishing Move. The Kamehameha, it goes straight through him. Explain that one? My explanation is this. Tenkaichi= Broken ass game and not able to be played competitively.

If Tenkaichi 2 is ever online I will be more than excited to play you because you seem like someone who would be worthy of a challenge. I just can only hope that T2 will be better than the first one and available for play online.

??? I dont understand what you mean…cuz the game does have a back/front differentiation. Like buk said, crossups are very possible. They can side dash or whatever but you can rejump and go for a crossup again, or not crossup…and so on and so on. I dont understand how some people are talking like crossups arent do-able in matches.

the WHW/WHH mixup he’s talking about only works if they don’t recognize the combo. After you get accustomed to seeing the combo (a punch, followed by a kick (WH)), you can jump in order to escape both the uppecut and the throw…and then punish.

It’ll take a while to discover the tiers of the game, imo, because of all the possibilites of moves/abilities that you can give your characters.

<3 SDBZ

Well regular vegeta has a better big bang type move and also super cancels. M vegeta has the wall combos and shit though.

Audio, also from what I know you can jab right out of that 17 combo after the first 2 hits.

Oh man, I am a slave to this game! Between the solid fighting, making custom char cards, and the sweet combos, I can’t get enough of it!

I went with Krillin’s Solar Flare like you all suggested. Man, that sucker leaves fools stunned for a good few seconds. I really wanted the After Image skill but when I’d gotten another skill up, they gave the After Image to me automaticlally!:lovin:

Cell just keeps getting better and better. They gave me the Psychokinesis skill, something I thought would be utterly worthless because its slow, but its actually pretty good and you can combo right after it. Then I got the Barrier skill. Turns out you can use this baby even when you’re taking damage.

Tonight I discovered the awesomeness of Ultimate Gohan’s Tornado Cutter. I had no clue it was a 27-hit combo.:wow: Although this is probably something you’d want to bait someone into. I mean, it worked great on the AI in Survival Mode, but I can easily see a human player spotting from a mile away.

ay reggiehadoken, that cell barrier is something like a burst. free get out of ass whooping card ftw. ggxx/ style:looney:

AudioProject: So there is a differentiation between front and back? My bad: I didn’t really play much of Freeza to be honest, and otherwise, it seemed like blocking was pretty universal. Thanks for the correction.

Sprawler: You say B3 favors characters who are good at rushdown; well that was exactly my point. KOF is exactly the same way.

Has anyone fucked around with Cyber Freeza? No rock/teleport shit, but some of his crack bomb setups are pretty cool.

Still waiting on Buu advice. Preferred skill tree stuff, tactics, etc. I’d also like some advice on Cell, if anyone has any to give. =P

I picked this game up yesterday very cool stuff.Trunks is too good man, right now he’s my current chara.Atk up,movement up,ground speed up,and dragon heart are what i’m using for skills ATM

this game is awesome, I find it infinitely interesting. I hope Funamizu gets to make more games, not just DBZ.

I don’t even care for DBZ too much but I love this game.
