New Chuns ask in here!

Ha ha, I just have it there cause everyone hates her, and I just switched after trying a lot of the cast. Believe me, I love Chun, other’s dont :lovin:.

I’m fairly new to 3s and to playing on stick. Just wondering if there is any good links with chun i should know. I try to do mostly a grab and poke game. I just want to add more offensive links to my game too. Any suggestions would be awesome.

Learn the double super setups. One super can lead to another about half the time.

For example on medium sized characters like Ken or Ryu in the corner :

Hit them with a SAII, super jump cancel and hit with a Fierce Punch, then do a UOH (MP+MK) as soon as you land. When done correctly the UOH should be perfectly timed and meaty. It will combo into another super if it hits.

People should read the SRK Wiki more too.

how do you do s.mp into bird kicks?

Instead of moving the joystick directly from :d: to :u: quickly roll the joystick :d: :db: :l: :ub: :u: when you have a charge.

Use mp or hp when the joystick is in the back position and combo.

hmm… thanks.

So how do I fight Ibuki?

Anti-air her with back fierce and use standing roundhouse to snuff a good portion of her wake up game.

Also use air fierce to stop attempts of her pulling of an air super. Its actually a really bad match up for ibuki against chun-li since she has to throw ex kunai’s a lot and generally work for that stun to beat chun-li from using her SA2.

Hi guys.

Ive recently started playing sf3 because I want to defeat my friend whos been playing for a good two or three years. Ive chosen chun li as the character I want to use to defeat him since his signature characters and already ken and akuma.

How do I cancel the last kick of my Houyoku-Sen so that I may link it to another combination ?

Also, are there any strategies to defeat ken and akuma ? His constant pressure with Akuma tears me up and hes too fast with ken.

Thanks in advance

From BillyKanes FAQ (Good Read) :

“You need to cancel the super jump motion (down, up) during Chun-li’s last
kick. I remember having trouble to pull this off at first, which is
why I recommend to do the super jump motion all the way through the
super: it makes you look dumb, but it works every time.”

Alright, got done with my first big tourney, naturally there were plenty of other Chun’s there. Got sent to losers first thing by one lol. So I’ve got a few questions:

  1. What’s the overall game-plan if they like to: Turtle/Rushdown/Zone.
  2. What beats what: Standing Fierce, Back Fierce, Low Forward mainly.
  3. What’s good spacing to not get thrown if you pause for a bit.
  4. How do you look for their super/parry into super while attempting to land your own?

Thanks in advance!

Hey man, I’m the Chun that sent you to losers first round. I meant to tell you at the venue, but the biggest thing you should work on is your hit confirm. In Chun vs Chun mirror matches, missing supers is probably the worst possible thing you can do.

I also saw you buffering into Lightning Legs at very odd times. Like, mid screen and out of range. LL is not safe to do really and you would be better to concentrate on poking and zoning.

Also, work on your defense. Learn to react to Chun’s Flip Kick and at least block it if not parry it.

Thanks man, I shoulda figured you were Face lol. Do you play online by the way? I know I could learn a whole lot from a few sessions with you :woot:

On what characters does air-to-air j.d+MK, j.d+HP, c.LP reset work on?

Ok, another “what do I do against X”-question, but just so you know I only ask this because the research I’ve done on this forum hasn’t got me any money.

So, Chun vs Makoto?
The things I’ve figured out is that you should stay far away from her and stop her dash-ins/jump ins with different normals etc. But man, if Makoto only gets ONE karakusa I feel like I’m fucked, because the only options I feel I have is to jump back which means I end up in the corner and that means trouble.

So what do I do after a karakusa, whats the best option? Is c.lp a good option?
What pokes should I use to beat out what?

Thanks for the answers.

you can also do it with cl.st.RH and this is the character specific list of which reset works on who that i tested.

urien: cl.st.rh only
hugo: cl.st.rh only
twins: c.lp only
alex: both
shotos: both
ibuki: both
dudley:both
makoto: both
elena: both
necro: both
oro: both
remy: both
Q: both
chun:both
12: both
if someone has done the RH version on the twins, post that shit. if someone has done c.lp on urien or hugo, post that shit.

The best way to win this fight is not get grabbed period. cr.lp and cr.lk stuff Makoto’s dash and hayate clean. st.lp and early s.cl.RH stuff Tsurugi and every other jump in can be parried/dashed under fairly easily.

Once you keep makoto out, the idea is to frustrate her and make her make a mistake (blocked Hayate, usually).

If you land super, early SJC Fierce (not the two hits, just one) > Land > UOH XX Super connects on Makoto crouching or standing (obviously not if she is blocking).

A good Makoto will use SA1 on you, so don’t worry about avoiding her side of the screen. Get her into the corner and sit at kara throw range and watch what they do. They block, Kara throw. They jump, standing jab to reset them back. They do anything else, cr.fwd XX Super.

If Makoto is doing repeated cr.lk XX Hayate’s or variations of that, cr.lp will break the blockstring and then you’re at perfect Kara throw range. Don’t do it too much though, because a good makoto will just bait the cr.lp and parry it into EX Hayate or super.

Oh yeah, always remember against Makoto, block low, then immediately high to stuff any overhead shenanigans she might try.

A bunch of people think Makoto is a hard fight for Chun, but it is pretty easy to beat a Makoto once you get them off of their rhythm.

Very much appreciated!

These are a few of my matches. I’m the Chun on the left site in both of them. Any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated :wonder::wonder::wonder:

…yea I’m not too familiar with the Chun vs Elena matchup :sad::sad:
