New art in KOF Xii low resolution

They may get it right by the time KOF XIV comes out. HD that shit.

This is as good as it gets for a 2DF. I would rather have a few pixels along with my hand-drawn artwork as opposed to having it butchered by 3D (or 2.5D) modeling. It would be like SFIV, where the characters and artwork lost a lot of “charm” trying to cater to newgens.

The OP has a totally valid point. Any 2d fighter that comes out now must be compared to the resolution standard set by HD Remix. Especially KOF XII where so much has been made of the reworked art. Memory constraints and prior games can’t be used as excuses.

That being said, I’m sure that the game will be graphically impressive due to the excellent animation and art design. (I haven’t seen it in person yet.)

Exactly. Gameplay aside, if they really put in the time to re-do all the art, why not make it worthwhile, especially since they’ll probably reusing these sprites now for the next 10 years. Ram limitations on 2d animation? Make it MVC2 style then, I’d rather have the weird mix of 3d backgrounds with very nice 2d character sprites. Considering it’s supposed to be all about the animation, the fighting still looked very awkward in motion from all the videos i’ve seen. I’ll still be purchasing this as well but it is disappointing.

Here you can clearly see the “flatness” of BB in comparison, an explantion to why they are faster to make. They’re both good though, in different ways.
Also, BB is still kinda pixelated, since there is no AA (manual or otherwise). This combined with the few shades(flatness) gives the “made in ms paint” effect that Dandy is experiencing.
Still, not a bad thing. Personally I love Paint, I made my fancy man-Heart edit in it.

Personally, I’d rather we didn’t compare new games to that. It just doesn’t look good. High resolution only gets you so far if the art itself looks bad. Besides, that would make the standard for animation veeeery low.

Every once in a while we get people like the OP who cry about worthless crap. These people don’t appreciate the effort that SNK has put in.

After seeing the final product, I’m glad they went with more animation. Gives the game a good feel on hits and movement.

Is that really an accurate size comparison? I have a hard time believing that KOF XII sprites are smaller than GG sprites.

Size is not everthing. The BB sprites look incredibly amateurish, horrible color choices, completely flat looking, and from what I’ve seen the animations are pretty lackluster. Its all about how it looks in motion and KOF is the hands down winner in that regard.

Ky’s fighting stance makes him a good deal shorter. The KOF sprites would probably be about the same size. GG is standard def though.

GGX series has big sprites. They could really save time on animation with a low amount of frames because of how fast the game is.

When you compare it to HD Remix, SF4, and Blazblue. Of course, graphically wise it is inferior. But most people play KoF for gameplay.

LOL it mos definitely is not graphically inferior to HD Remix. Nothing is graphically inferior to that game… I’d rather use the original SF2 sprites than the redrawn abortions.

Pretty sure both BB and KOFXII are comparable in terms of animation smoothness. Some of BBs default colors are awful (looking at you Jin).

Man, no wonder 90% of SRK shit all over Megaman 9. It’s like, why not try to make a good-looking game? What, is that an “artistic style?” It’s stupid. If SNK wasn’t so retarded, they’d just re-do the KOFMI models and make the gameplay strictly 2D. Then it would be as good as SFIV, maybe. I love Capcom, though. Exclusively.

To sum it up-

SNK sucks. Guilty Gear is awesome. The new KOF sprites look like something my retarded first cousin came up with. More like Stink of Fighters.
