New art in KOF Xii low resolution

Of course they’re gonna look better than the neo geo shots, but they should be HD. This looks like 480p shit.

sprites look really good, you aren’t going to hear any complaining from me when they could have just recycled again, slapped kof 12 on it, and been done. any work on improving the visuals is a definite + in my book.

Dude KOFXII is HD. They’re bigger than GG sprites and GG sprites are considered high res. I understand how you feel about the pixelation and all, but the amount of detail in the sprites is amazing.

question are you one of those people who say shadow of the colossus looks bad.

I personally happen to like the pixel look :lol: the dots are almost too small IMO hahah
The KOFXII sprites are probably the best sprites I’ve ever seen. Huge, insanely detailed, and brilliantly animated… watch Kyo’s animations and you can see the chain on his pants bouncing around

me 2 i am all about pixels. i actually dont like bb sprites cause the outlines are thin single pixel and it looks like someone drew them in mspaint

I realize the visuals didn’t change much but I like how the OP posted up local test screen shots too.

idk hes a retard but he does have a point. it might not bother people here but given how much snk has riding on the success of this game and how expensive it was to develop it probably wouldve made sense to go with higher res sprites even if it meant skimping on animation. casual players are really going to notice this.

Aside from those awful filtered shots the game looks amazing. Have you watched the game in action? It’s got some of most detailed, great looking 2-D animation ever to appear in a fighting game. The sprites might be slightly more pixelated that STHD, but at least they have animation frames!

I doubt it. The real appeal in anything animated is in the motion, not the pictures themselves… that’s why HDR looks like complete shit and KOF looks awesome. Style also trumps technical execution more often than not, which helps KOF even more since its sprites are brilliantly realized and Blazblue’s are horrific, flat shaded, awful character designs.

Honestly, I wasn’t impressed with STHD. The characters seemed to be drawn out of proportion and it was distracting to me.
I love the art work for KOF 12 though. I haven’t played a KOF game since 2000, but I can appreciate superior artwork in any medium.

The OP is a bit off base. KOFXII does have new sprites and they are a vast improvement over the old ones. That said, I’m going to call it as I see it and say that the sprites are fairly low res. People can get all upset and say sprite res doesn’t matter, that sprites don’t have a qualitative impact for fighting game fans, that the shading style is difficult to do, that there may have been technical limitations, and that a lot of time was spent (this is all true)… but the sprites are still low res.
