Netherealm next fighter... Killer Instinct 3!?

@Pravelto
the problem is YOU. i found the verbal putdowns really amusing especially at YOUR expense. i didn’t even mention anything to contradict your point [asinine as it is] as i merely expressed my own opinion. jeez, you quoted me immediately even before i finished editing my post 'cause i left out part of a sentence i had typed out [are you constantly monitoring the thread like 24/7 for NEW posts that pop up? seriously?]. psycho. if you feel like every reply is directed at and meant to discredit you, then you are just as excerebrose as you make yourself out to be. what a fanboy. you are so obsessed with MK and NRS that you might as well be employed by them, not that they would hire you though.

Resident Evil “6”, a *shooter? *you are definitely whacked. you might be able to multi-task well but please, lay off playing MK9 too much and trolling SRK simultaneously will you? just being “hypocrits”, you are hmm?

@Negative-Zer0
stfu. “asskissing is lame”. and you quoted that retard TWICE. gay. maybe you two should get together.

fighting games don’t necessarily need to be “sanitized” or “bloody/gory” to be any good. a new Killer Instinct game can do away without that [or at least have a good balance of fluids and guts to retain its identity as a KI game] if it can still provide an awesome competitive experience. that is why Skullgirls will be successful. input from the community integrated into the game by attentive developers who are also part of the FGC. if only the new Killer Instinct game would be developed that way…

Quoting him twice was s mistake. While i don’t agree that japanese developers translates to instant animu shit, i do agree that people that have never touched skullgirls a day in thier life, calling its designer a genius and saying that they should develop more games without have ever playing his first one is NOT ok. Thats straight up bandwagon slurping. Boon has proven that he can try to make a great tourny fighter and succeeded. Though it may have not been perfect, the man can try again. Many companies have a history of bad firsts on competitive games. He can try again. I don’t think it’s fair that hr and his team have actually tried to reach out to the community, and make a game for them, though not perfect, is getting demonized for a bad first, while mike z is not EVEN DONE MAKING HIS FIRST GAME be put on a higher prdastal than boon.

@Negative-Zer0
did anybody *explicitly *put Mike Z up on a “prdastal” [sic]? granted he’s pretty OG and deserves the recognition in the community, doesn’t mean he’s being worshipped or hailed as a fighting game savior. i even pointed out that MK9 was a financial success for NRS overall so that would speak for itself regardless if MK9 was tournament worthy or not. the thing with the Skullgirls devs is that they tap directly into the community on how to make it better on various levels like gameplay and overall play experience, which then shows up in the existing builds of the game, proof of how they are developing it based off of community feedback. now that’s sensible *and *genius. but that doesn’t mean it will secure financial success for the title [Skullgirls] on launch. that’s up to everybody else.

and no, Ed Boon is not being “demonized” for a “bad first game”. he is basically being criticized for the recent turnout that is MK9. isn’t this like his eighth or ninth game produced overall for the main series? how many more “first tries” does this guy need to be able to make Mortal Kombat live up to its potential? if Boon and his team had really wrapped their heads around making the new Mortal Kombat game a “flawless victory” for themselves, then not a lot of people would complain or nitpick about the quality of the title at all. that’s why there is doubt NRS could handle a new Killer Instinct sequel that could meet both old and new fans’ expectations.

Regardless of what people think of Skullgirls, people like whats happening with that game, because the devs listen and attempt to address commonly held complaints in the FGC, they explain what they are doing and why, and when they do, the answers generally make sense. Even if SG turns out to be a dissappointment, the overall approach Reverge has taken is to be applauded. (Similarly with Guild Wars 2, another example of a game where the company seems to be saying all the right things and listening to the right people.)

That’s a far cry from most other FGs, although granted, any “community interaction” we get is filtered through many layers of translation and PR people, simply because most FGs are developed in Japan.

I know there are some people living in Japan here on SRK. I wonder what the japanese experience is, with developer-community interaction? Does ASW, for example, talk and listen to its japanese fans the way Reverge does here?

@Pravelto
"HYPOCRITS"!!! alas, he dies a lonesome MK fanboy sob

back to topic : screw this. let Nether Realm Studios take the damn Killer Instinct IP, hammer out a game sequel over the next few months/years AND THEN ONE OF TWO THINGS CAN HAPPEN :

  1. community fans will clamor to crucify them for messing up the new KI game because “…the game is just so flawed, that’s why!” [points a finger at Ed Boon]
  2. community fans hail them as the new standard bearer for Western fighting game developers and legends in the annals of videogame history for saving the sanity of countless innocent fighting game players’ lives [points a finger at Ed Boon]

“HYPOCRITS”!!!

I have hard tome considering these as all games deals with this.

Every game has its time where event presentation is slower, especially with newer games on the horizon.
The fact you included smash as refrence for the other still baffles me. The two game and scene operate so differently.
NRS say it before the game release that patches was to be expected so i dont see the problem.

[LEFT]I’m no expert on this game but I dare to say that the game hasn’t been explored enough to come to that conclusion. Ive seen some videos of KI that shows many potential stuff.[/LEFT]

Skullgirls has quite a bit of blood coming from Miss Fortune and the guys at Reverge have mentioned that they’d really like to have an arcade release in Japan. That would mean that the the game may need to be reworked a bit(Miss Fortune uses clear plasma instead?) wouldn’t it?

Relax there guy.

man id love another ki, infact it’d just seem right if NR did it…

Only thing i liked from KI was the amazing soundtrack, really intense and perfect for fights.

I think they are from Chile or Argentina (more Argentina because Chile is a Namco Country from what i’ve seen), i couldn’t find the video unfortunately is really hard to find.

id love to play another KI.
MAKE IT HAPPEN NRS!

I think this is what you’re talking about.

And somebody found it! Watch this shit, and say its not offensive and high damage even without throws or long combos. (I’d forgotten how often stuns happen)

Oh Venezuela, the game definitely has potential for a sequel hopefully someone will take this into account

Indeed (aww i miss my old Snes days haha), my only concern is the normal moves they need more work imo.

Maaan, that was pretty hype. I don’t remember Killer Instinct like this lol.

I like how the move properties really matter, just about any hit is utterly devastating, so what hits what is really important (low vs fast overhead vs special that dodges lows), and without any invulnerability shortcuts either.

That’s because back in the time everyone played KI like this: “MUST LAND KILLERRRR COMBOSSSS!!!” :rofl:

Anyways, I think a new KI built along the lines of what we see there (along with the longer breakable combos because why not and people love flash) but cleaned up some would be absolutely perfect…

And I don’t see anybody currently making fighters except for NRS getting that feel remotely right.

Since other people have addressed the monumental stupidity of the rest of your post I’m not gonna bother with you and just reply to this one. “Blood removed”? None of those games had much blood to begin with if they had any at all (unless you’re referring to characters puking/bleeding when you hit them in SF2; the only blood in SF3 happened in Urien’s time over pose). Again I guess it’s just more ass-talking on your part but these games had no blood at all and even if they did have any it’s completely negligible and doesn’t help your point at all. They never had buckets of blood being spilled. KI had blood being spilled. There’s no reason at all a Japanese dev would suddenly take that away.

You’re saying that they absolutely will take the blood away if they acquire this license. Again, how do you know this? Oh that’s right, you don’t, because this has never happened before. So in essence you’re basing your argument on some completely hypothetical event in addition to this incredibly ignorant image you have of Japanese devs. Awesome.

It’s not a personal attack to call you ignorant, which is what you’re being. It’s a personal attack to call you an idiot, which is what you are.

It really has nothing to do with blood, and everything to do with look and feel. Japanese developers especially seem to have aesthetics that are totally opposed to KI, and would just fuck it up.

Edit: Josh, good job at raising the level of discourse btw.

Pravelto has been infracted and I think has earned himself a 90 day ban. Any new accounts suddenly posting in this thread should be Reported and will be immediately banned and their posts edited down to “No fake accounts on SRK”.

Thanks.
