So, Seth said there was going to be a blog post by the Capcom JP team about the state of the game on 360 + online a few days ago (via Twitter).
Has this happened?
I want to hear their excuse for why pair play is not possible on 360, despite dozens of other games (including fighters like MK9) doing it. What is special about their games that it’s possible, but not SFxT?
Seth/Capcom, if you’re reading this, making the most fun way to play your game unavailable to half (or more) of your online consumers without any legitimate reason is not okay.
I’m quite sad about this. I have both consoles but still got my special edition (comes tomorrow) on 360, just because I’ve had better experiences with XBL and fighters. 3S is Horrible on PSN, and AE is slowly dying out. The same 5 people join my game every time.
The netcode felt a lot better tonight, and it was against yellow 2-bar. Maybe as you just get used to the weird sound and the new gameplay, it starts to feel normal. Wearing a headset and lowering the volume helped a lot for me too, the audio glitch sort of drowns out rather than feeling like a punch to the neck, constantly. I only had one weird frame drop after an hour or so of matches. Hopefully it’ll stay good and get better with patched sound.
Y’all need to play in some of the poor ass mall basement arcades I’ve player in where you can’t hear a damn thing because the cabs speakers are shot to hell and the DDR machine in the corner is set to “stadium concert.” I should probably stick in some annoying DDR tunes on custom soundtrack, might actually help my game.
I received the game yesterday (europe) and all my matches were white bar (green bar in SF4). Most of them were decent at least, some were great even. One was really bad. The ones that were great definately had less sound dropping.
What I did notice is that before the round starts, the “ready, fight” thing seems to lag and sometimes some frame drops but no dropped inputs so far.
If anybody cares about my connection: I have a fiber connection, wired, with very low ping to the nearest server on speedtest.net. Pingtest 3 ms and no jitter.
EDIT: I also saw TSsabin’s room in endless and he has a white connection to me. I think he has a good connection for US averages.
So… why does everyone orgasm over rollback netcode again? I hate it. I hate GGPO and I hate this netcode. I can’t get a decent game without frame jitter. In UMvC3 and AE I’d get perfect games, barely any input delay and no frame jitters.
If they fix the sound, I’ll be happy. I’d be happier if they fixed the jittering, but something tells me that would be too tall an undertaking. What the hell do I know, I’m no network engineer. I’m just a consumer that expects the sound to work in video games I purchase. The sound works in 100% of all the other games I’ve purchased this gen, so yeah.
This sound lag is unbearable. Coming from someone who isn’t very good at the game to start with not hearing my moves hit and others do trip me out.
Haven’t had too many problems with lag and jitter but that sound man. Pisses me off entirely.
In the 90s I played in arcades and guess what, you can barely hear anything. You would probably know that if you weren’t sitting at home wishing for super advanced console that let’s you play people online without ever coming into contact with human beings…well congrats, now you’re dat combo beast with dem leaderboards. I know it sucks, you’re getting punished for your lag tactics now but you still got sf4 and marvel waiting for you. Go get em beast
Don’t go to a major then. You won’t ever be able to hear your monitor, no matter how hard you try.
Also.
Go play shitty Marvel online then. Stop being such a bitch. Like, real talk, if the fucking sound is such a big deal to you that you’d rather have input lag and lag spikes then feel free to go play that.
As far as for practical purposes, like playing online, I thought the net code was really enjoyable. The sound issue was jarring at first and fucking up my hitconfirms, but I used to play on GGPO so I’m used to hearing SHOOOOORYUKEN and having my opponent just stand there.
We like being able to play games online with the same timing that we play offline. When we hit short short xx super in 3s, we want it to be short short xx super, and not short short hadoken or short short into nothing because of input lag.
When JohnnyScrubNuts with the ‘I was raised on Street Fighter!’ title on SFXT is holding up forward and pressing RH and doing JH -> sweep, you’ll be glad you’ll be able to anti-air him properly with a crouch fierce. Then maybe do a moderately challenging juggle combo after that if you’re feeling funky.
Then if you go to an offline tournament or have a friend over- that timing doesn’t change. That same thing you learned you don’t have to ‘adjust’ for online or offline play. This is why I love rollback netcode.
my online experience with this game has been pretty mixed, but overall unacceptable compared to today’s standards of online gaming. The lag is reminiscent to SSF4, but the audio dropping is too often & just not cool no matter how you spin it. It ruins the vibe & makes the game feel like I own a bootleg copy that’s missing audio files. This has to be fixed pronto
and i could give a f&*%k if the audio dropping reminds you of your loud arcade days. People PAID for their personal copy of the game & it should have seamless sound like every other game on the market. period.
LMAO! This is one of the best netcodes ever released and it’s hilarious how because of the lack of lag is making them worse at the game, people are calling it out for lag based on audio drops and slight frame skips that may or may not exist, being that the impression of frame-skipping could just be coming from the audio dropping. Also, have any of you ever played in an arcade? If the sound issues are actually hindering your play the answer is clearly no. I usually have my iPod in when I’m playing.
Honestly, I didn’t even know others mentioned it, but I don’t see how that helps your side of the argument? Maybe there is some truth to the fact that relying on the in-game audio isn’t really the best way to play the game to begin with, because you won’t have that luxury at tournaments. If you’re just playing online then fine, but the audio issues really don’t reflect the playablitity of the netcode.
I’m saying it doesn’t bother to me. It doesn’t matter. Literally, 100% doesn’t matter. Go cry about it on your livejournal, maybe you’ll score some emo chicks or something. Jesus fuck I’ve never seen someone bitch as much over something as trivial as in-game audio when we have godlike netcode available.
Capcom finally listened, and you’re upset?
The sound glitches happen in MVC2 and 3sOE too. They didn’t bother me there, or stop me from being able to play at a high level and they sure as fuck don’t bother me here. I don’t know about you, but hearing errant DISRUPTOR and AAAAAAAAHS from Mag and Storm bothers me way less than being not able to ROM. I’d rather be able to do 1f links than have the game bog down every time JohnnyScrubNuts activates his torrents mid combo.
