Netcode Hitting 360 Soon!

hah you’re a clam! :bgrin:

You got me.

I dont know why it was displaying your own connection before the patch, or what it was supposed to represent, but normally connection strength is measured between two people, so it doesnt make sense to display “your own” connection - there isnt any such thing.
(unless they use server-client model, but usually fighting games are peer-peer.)

Zeech is right…

unless the game parses and test your connection only to take more time to show it back to you… idk it sounds redundant… However I could be very wrong…

That makes sense. It’s not really a big deal, as long as I can connect to others without lag, then everything is good. It’s just weird that is was being shown originally then. Ah well. Thanks for the info guys!

I should really move my 360 next to the router temporarily, and see what the average ping is on MvC2 while using a cable to really see how much difference there really is between wired and wireless.

I’ve never really tested it, but anything higher than an improvement of 50, and I might just keep my 360 there.

i read somewhere that no matter how fast ur internet is it can only get like a up to near 70% or something strengh of a signal while u r on wireless even at 100%…

Somebody rep ShinBlanka, a lot.

For those of you that don’t get it, Hi I’m a Linux Admin for a Webhosting Company…I think I know a few things here and there about the internet.

The best damned connection bar none, wired straight to the modem - at that point it’s the money you’re shelling out on your connection that has the say so in your lag (on your end at least)

IMO DSL doesn’t cut it (we’ll save that debate for later) better call your local Cable or Fiber Provider… IMO the only way DSL is gonna cut it is if you opt for the 6MB Package and you live a few blocks from the hub.

Streaming takes up bandwidth, plain and simple - DO NOT HAVE ANY TORRENTS OR STREAMS GOING WHILE YOU PLAY!!!

There is packet loss on wireless, face it.

INSTALL YOUR FUCKING GAME TO THE SYSTEM, Less work for the machine = More time devoted to getting data in and out on the connection… Every little bit helps.

Fighting games are bandwidth needy, you wanna play a fighting game you need to let all the other shit go.

comcast for the motherfucking win

Corrected it for ya

I played a few more games last night and had intermittent results. I played a few game specifically with a yellow bar and got some varied results. I use Liz and a lot of her timing is sensitive, and she still seems unusable online. Although I did have some matches that seem to have very little input lag, the results really seemed to sway. Some good, most were bad. Still relatively unplayable imo.

now that the game is much more playable online, I say u check your connections and make sure you’re not streaming anything. The game is awesome and the patch did wonders.

Now I’m wondering about some **GOOD ** DLC

any hopes and ideas?

What about Uverse? Cable over here is pure shit “Maxes out at like 6 mbps” while UVerse maxes out at 18 mbps. I got the 12 mbps down and nearly 2 mbps up speed. I think it’s pretty stable. PS3 hooked into the router.

And YES on the not having shit run in the background. So many people do this and think nothing of it.

I don’t understand the argument here. Of course wireless is slower BUT I play sf4 and BB on wireless just fine. Most people (including me) aren’t going to adjust their entire home set up just for one game. Not like it would help anyway because the problem is KOFs netcode, not my wireless.

God I hope so. I’d really like to get some use out of what seems like a great fighting game (hard to tell in practice mode), not to mention my 60 bucks :stuck_out_tongue:

Would you say you never had a laggy SF4 match on wireless? What’s there to understand? If you’re on wireless for any game, you have a better chance of experiencing lag. If you’re wired, then those chances decrease noticeably.

The point isn’t that wireless is better than wired. No one thinks that. The point is that wireless can still be excellent, even if wired would be a bit more excellent.

I have wireless, and generally have great matches in SF4, STHD, and BB.

People who think wireless = automatic unplayable lag are wrong. That’s simply not the case.

Do I get occasional spikes with wireless? Sure. Would wired be more consistent? Sure.

But, it’s not absolutely necessary for good, low lag matches. Especially when you don’t have a choice to completely change your house’s internet setup just for online gaming.

I also have wireless and BB is perfect, and all the other games play fine too. The only thing that sucks is my signal doesn’t show up on the screen. But I have 20 mbs Verizon fios and I run wireless and Im in a position where i can’t run a 50ft cable around my house just to get my ps3 plugged in.

I make do with what I have, hell my wireless beats out most wired connections anyway

And patch 1.01 is essentially the install of the game anyway, so that piece of advice was pointless anyway

Would you say you’ve never had a laggy match on wired? My point is people are trying to transfer the blame on stupid things like people having wireless instead of focusing on the real problem, the netcode. Logically if BB, SF4, HDR work perfectly online and KOF doesn’t… I’m going to blame KOF and not my wireless connection.

I would say that I’ve had a ton less laggy matches on wired. Same thing happened in SF4. I had a lot of laggy matches and could barely find a 3 bar match but then I switched to wired and now 3 bars is the standard with maybe a few 4 and 5 bars occasionally. That is to say SF4 online isn’t perfect and I’ve learned to work around it. Seeing as how you don’t even have the new patch yet and can’t confirm or deny anything, I don’t think you’re in a place to blame the netcode over the wireless yet.

Last I checked, U-Verse is Fiber.

Never said wireless was the issue over SNK’s 1/2assery, But Wireless does have packetloss unless you have a bad ass hub and connection then you don’t notice shit at that point it’s still there but not enough to fuck the game up…the average Joe doesn’t understand that part and fucking fails at networking.

Also people…
