Then why do you wirelesstards continue to play in those conditions?
If you don’t have a wired connection, you won’t have an optimal experience no matter your download / upload speeds (which don’t really factor much in online gaming, latency does, and wireless connections have high latency).
Get wired before you complain. It DOES make a LOT of difference.
It’s running pretty smooth for me after the second day and I’m using Comcast internet connection on a Netgear wireless router. And my connection speed is 58mbps-72mbps.
Yea, it’s safe to say that the online sucks at this point. 3 bar matches are terrible. It’s worse than 3SOE, it’s worse than SF4, and I’d say it’s about as bad as original marvel 3 was.
Yeah, I DO need to make another netplay guide I see.
This thread is disappointing for multiple reasons.
Its been all over the place for me. When I can actually connect to someone its generally fine. But last night It costantly would match me with someone then disconnect. Now today I had a 3 bar match, was going mostly fine then that started lagging, finally disconnected. Assuming it was the other persons fault since it matched me with him again then said 2 bars.
4 bar matches are great, 3 seem ok, everything else is a mess. Then again im new to KoF so when I drop a combo I more attribute that to having not played the game enough.
Not really. A lot of people posting connection tests are using wireless connections which is pretty faulty in itself. Even with fast internet, wireless is notorious for packet loss from the device to the web and back again. Doesn’t matter how close the router is, there’s going to be some packet loss.
Can’t trust those kinds of reviews as you’re looking for problems. I can concede it’s not the best thing since Sliced Bread, but it’s okay.
I’m talking from experience playing four different people. One of them was okish, all the others sucked. I ran into Wolfkrone though and that connection was terrible, much worse than when I played him in SF4.
I mean, I see no dropped inputs, but there’s always a delay and that delay varies probably relative to how far apart the two players are. My connection has always been fine when it comes to any game on GGPO, HDR, and 3SOE. For those it was really good. SF4 has decent net play for me with green bars being pretty solid. KoF XIII is not nearly as good as any of these aforementioned games.
With that said, I’ll be posting to find more local players. You all should do the same.
After playing folks in person all night last night and then turning this on today, playing on a 3 bar connection…
They need to patch this shit, ASAP.
The ONLY playable connection is a 4 bar and to get that you both need a good connection and be in the same city/state - Under 100ms ping…and then it’s like beyond BlazBlue Quality - Butter smooth.
I can’t speak for anyone else. My wireless router is right next to my Xbox and PS3 because I have my cable modem near my TV. There is no noticeable difference in lag between wired and wireless. The only times I have issues is when my actual cable connection drops out and that isn’t a wireless specific issue its an ISP issue. I play all sorts of games…fighters, shooters, sports and they are all playable online.
For some reason you assume that people are playing under the shittiest conditions possible. I highly doubt most people are in that situation. Wireless is a viable method of playing online. It might not be the best but its not going to turn your connection from unplayable to good simply by switching to wired. Once again, assuming that your setup is one where you are close enough to the router to get a connection where the wireless isn’t experiencing thoroughput issues, dropped packets, etc.
i know this is random, but does it matter what kind of router/modem you have? i have a pretty cheap one and my service is pretty mediocre. without increasing my internet service, would getting a better router help my connection, in general? pm me please
A better router would help for sure but no… They really do need to patch this.
This is more painful then XII, not saying the netcode is worse (it’s way better then XII) but this is a damned good game - to lose the community over halfass netcode would be a crime.
This really is the best game out right now, why anyone would go back to SF4 after this is beyond me…they need to patch this.
Sums up how I feel too. This game is really good. Damn if nobody wants to play it cause of the net code.
Playing on 360, wired straight off the modem to my 360, in Colorado, outside of Denver…
Played 37 matches yesterday, hosting most of them, and I had 3 matches I thought were unplayable, 2 against the same guy in ranked about 40 minutes apart…otherwise, I allowed “Any” latency in my session and…I took notes.
4 Bars: Zero, I saw one player, but couldn’t join because of his restrictions
3 Bars: 24 matches in Green Connection
2 Bars:11 matches in Yellow Connection, maybe half of them had some issues, a few of those with major lag issues
1 Bar: Only saw 1 red connection in Ranked match, never saw any in Player
Only played 1 Red Connection all day, and that match sucked.
Gave every Yellow Connection a fair shot, and there were a few that started off a bit laggy, but seemed to clear up by a 2nd or 3rd match…I asked a few players if it felt like the connection was actually getting better and they agreed…
Just over half the matches I played had Green Connections, and while a few were a bit sluggish at the outset, most of them were very very good. I came away fairly pleased with the online so far.
It’s on par with SSF4, minus having to worry about dropping 1 frames and shit and the game not feeling slow paced in general.
I thought Ultimate Marvel was a decent improvement over MVC3, but even when that game is smooth, X-Factor activations can cause some aggravating slowdown…I didn’t see anything like that here. Feels far more stable all around.
I wouldn’t even mention KOF12, I never had a connection even close to being as bad as that was.
I had a good online experience with Battle Coliseum on Live Arcade, and this honestly feels better.
It’s better than Mortal Kombat, which even after the updates I still think is fucking terrible.
I can’t say if it’s better than 3SO, but I like it better than 3SO, because I personally could not stomach the visual/audio rollback. Shit drove me crazy.
I played rushdown as mean as possible and wasn’t missing short hops/blowbacks/drive cancels or anything. There were definitely instances of the gameplay being a bit slower, but it was easy to adjust to. A few extended combo drops, but I’ve only been playing for a day…most of the stuff I was able to pull off in Missions worked online when I was going for it.
“Goddamn, this lag is horrible” is a common phrase I use when playing MVC3,MK,3SO and sometimes SSF4…only said it 3 times last night, and for an SNK game, that’s a huge win for me. It ain’t 100% perfect, but people who talk in terms of perfection should be shampooing my crotch. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but the experience so far has been pretty positive for me. I’ll keep playing online.
The input lag is like Supercade 3rd Strike. Everything feels delayed by at least a second and it’s impossible to react to anything or try anything on wakeup.
For some reason, it’s gotten worse for me. It’s still doable, but I’ve not gotten a three bar with my friend who I previously had no issues getting 3/4 with before. No idea what’s going on. Damn shame too, if they fix the lag, I probably won’t be playing any other fighter.
From my small time playing last night, the best connection I had was with Arturo. But that’s cause we’re both on Fios. (New York - Maryland)
4 is awesome. 3 is eh. Ignore 2 and 1.
Have fun being stuck in 2 and 1 bar matches you can’t back out of.
This shit needs to be fixed ASAP, imma stop playing ranked till this gets fixed. So fuck stupid i swear…
We cant wait anything from KOF 13 netcode after snk said they increased the offline imput delay so they could to remove that artificial imput if needed, on the online gamming. Instead doing a decent netcode to simulate the offline experience, they screwed the offline play. Man its hilarious and sad at the same time.
