And I believe Ponder has already called out Capcom on this bullshit statement. Same with guys like Mauve (rollcaster) and others who’ve actually worked on rollback netcode.
LOL at expecting 1080p from an XBox One.
And even then, you have to remember that KI is an XBox 360 game that was moved to the One midway through development.
We’ve already mentioned that SFxT wasn’t the best implementation of rollback netcode, mostly due to how it didn’t really set input delay properly (it seemed that it didn’t adjust the delay based on the connection). That said, when it worked, it was better than SFIV.
If you’re getting teleports and rollbacks all over the place, then that means that the assigned delay is too low to what the average ping between the two clients is. With SFxT, it was a fault of the system where it couldn’t adjust the delay. With HDR (which is the other example you mentioned), the problem is that the delay needs to be manually set and the setting you used was most likely too low.
With a game with proper implementation, such as Skullgirls, the system calculates the delay for you, meaning that it’s usually perfect.
Everything that needs to be said has pretty much been said, guess some will never learn…and those will make fighting games crappier for everyone. Pat yourselves on the back.
One more thing though, Capcom is not your god, not your parents, not your lover, not your best friend. They are a business. Thinking Capcom’s every decision is to benefit its consumers is childish.
since educating the community seems to be impossible for multiples reasons that are highly obvious by this point, the only option left is to put FGC developers on blast for releasing shitty versions of online by making front page articles.
@dev is that possible to do? why hasn’t it ever been done before? I’m sure it would make a better story than 90% of the front page material.
Iron Galaxy did 3S0
Iron Galaxy did Darkstalkers Resurrection
Iron Galaxy did MVC:O
Iron Galaxy currently working on KI, which has some pretty amazing netcode(also they doing an amazing job with Season 2 characters)
How about Capcom call Iron Galaxy bros and say “Any help would be appreciated”
I dunno why everyone is freaking out about this. SFIV came out eons ago, the netcode is ancient because the game is ancient. SFxT had better netcode when it worked, and even that game will be like 4 years old by the time SFV comes out. I’m sure they’ll use rollback, and I’m sure it’ll be way better than SFIV.
Darkstalkers: Rebirth and SFxT are proof that Capcom are taking strides in improving netcode. It’s obvious that with cross platform play they are taking online play much more seriously. As much as I hate modern Capcom, netcode is the least of my worries.
truth be told when sf4 was being developed, roll back had been around for 10 years. Furthermore, GGPO was a thing 2 years before sf4 was even released. It existed back then so why not use it then too?
short answer is that it was a business decision. They already had a model that “worked” and implementing a new one would cost more money.
I hope to god though they think like you but considering how “good” capcom thinks their current net code is, I don’t think that is a possibility. Especially when the story of sfv has had more responses than the net code itself. Capcom really does think their current net code is good, they deemed umvc3 at working at the speed of light in an interview before the game dropped.
*“Other than geographical lag, I don’t see any problem in our current system,” boasted producer Ryota Niitsuma to Eurogamer.
“It’s the speed of light, and maybe a little bit of influence from infrastructure depending on where you are. So, if you’re playing from Japan against someone in Sweden there will be some lag due to the distance. But it’s all quite satisfactory.”*
I don’t even think they realize how SHITTY their current style is…At this point after several bad online games from capcom itself, NOT iron galaxy, Capcom has only released 1 GGPO type game in sfxt. Everything else from them has been complete utter garbage when you factor online. 3s os xbox\ps2 was terrible online, cvs2 was terrible online, HF-ing was terrible online, all 4 iterations of sf4 and 2 iterations of mvc3 are bad online, tvc is bad online. Damn near EVERYTHING Capcom has done on their own is trash, when did they get the benefit of the doubt?
if you couldn’t offer an argument based on technical perspectives, you shouldn’t have been talking in the first place imo.
Everyone can contribute. Just pick your shots. If this thread turned into ponder whom is original creator of GGPO, mike z, ono\combofiend from Capcom, and the guy redoing PC GGPO right now, I would gladly bow out of the conversation because my perspective couldn’t begin to contend with theirs. I think in a group like that, I would hold them back more than help so my voice is only adding to the problem rather than the solution
I want to contribute to the FGC like everyone else does too but I know my place.
just so you know, other people have done that in the past and it has cast a veil of misinformation over the turth. Look at how many people says its fine, fantastic, playable coast to coast. People who don’t know the logistics perpetuate the problem and have been for over a decade.
If Capcom does go with a rollback netcode I hope they don’t fuck it up on PC. PC is the wild card here since SFV will have cross network play. Netplay on the PC version of SFxT was beyond awful. I don’t quite remember the reason for it but I remember it was hardware related.
I blame that more on Capcom outsourcing their shit to Q-LOC. But with cross-platform play and the fact that both platforms have the same hardware now, I expect that they’re doing the PC version in-house this time.
I’m gonna hope for mankind’s sake you’re just joking when you say that.
If he was ok with having his name listed in the credits roll of SF4…he cant possibly be brilliant. Not even close.
I know if I was him, I woulda called Capcom and demanded my name be removed from that game’s credits.
