I might pick up Shermie as a second, mainly because I use her in KOF 98 so yeah Tech go ahead and drop some knowledge B…
Nak has a lot more going for her than Yuuki. Superb anti-air, very fast low strike, great pokes, lots of hitstun for certain moves. The worst things I would say is somewhat lackluster mixup game, and large jump interval.
Yuuki might be better though if you apply mixup pressure.
Well I play Nak and I say her biggest weaknesses are that she has shitty damage potential and the best she can get off of croching normals are either a lp qcf+P or a HP+dp. Her best jump-in is HP but this seems to get beat out by a lot of other AA normals; her HK is faster but its hitstun is lower so it has to be done much closer to the ground, this makes it good for throw set-up though. However Nak doesn’t really get a good advantage off of throws so that limits that. I believe she can only combo into her bird DM off a close HP…which is somewhat difficult to get on a consistent player, also you have to be point blank for it to hit twice and allow you to combo (any furthur and it hits once but you cannot combo off of it); same goes for the double team attack…although maybe you can connect that of the d/b+HKs…I’ll test that (should work seeing as most other characters can combo it off of their light normals).
Overall, I’m not disagreeing but I mainly put Yuuki higher because he has better combo options, slightly better zoning, he gets better with the card power-ups and overall more versatile. Nak is good at what she does but she’s really linear when you get done to it. Still, the game seems pretty balanced so I’m worried about it. Although I must admit I rarely see any Naks used in the tourney vids I watch while you see Yuuki from time to time.
Nakoruru actually has some good normals. Standing C being a very good one.
Yuuki has none. The closest thing he has is his slide and airdash D…which is pretty sad.
I also don’t believe he really has better practical combos. All of his decent combos require you to land his close C…which y’know, requires him to actually get close. And put pressure on his opponent. Two things he’s absolutely terrible at doing.
Yuuki’s zoning is pretty terrible against anyone who knows GCFS and AB step are in the game.
You aren’t going to get a chance to power-up too much against tough comp. Spamming charged-up Beast Buster can buy some time and annoy people, but in the end you won’t be winning the damage war and you’ll be burning time while your opponent is auto-charging meter.
I think Nakoruru’s slides SCed into a free Healing Super is better than anything Yuuki has, easily.
I thought he could combo off of cr.A? If not, than I’m with you on this one; although I don’t see how GCFS helps against full screen Beast Buster.
Than again, most characters can crouch right under it.
Shiki, Nak 5C IS a good normal. My beef with it is that is so damn distance dependent on comboing from it. And considering she gets her best damage from that that annoys me.
Also, I’m still curious why Nak doesn’t get more tourney play, even in the vids I’ve been watching from Soh85.
Can I get some Athena strats? videos? etc…
I’m gonna pair her up with Shermie and see what good’ll come out of it…
Basically her 2002 version with some new tricks and some of her O. Shermie moves (e.g. the air :qcf: :k:). She gained some new links as well. Stuff like jump :snkc:, close :snkc:, :r: + :snkb:, :qcf:x2 :k: (electric knee super). As with KOF, I feel that it is best at 2nd, and paired with someone who is good at building meter (such as Mai in the example above).
Just YouTube search Dark Geese in this game. He is the best Athena.
Appreciate the props! :china:
Heh I was just about to post those a-cho matches from Go For Broke.
I have a good ShishiOh match vid in my comp from Mexico I think. I miss this guy ;;…and NGBC looks horrible on our HDTV ;;
Damn I had some pretty good sets against my bro today…
Kisarah is a very interesting character indeed…
I haven’t played in a while. I love finding new things in this game (highly underrated). Are there anymore videos out there with Terry and Ryo users.
^I know they should have some vids for them somewhere, the Terry vids should be out their but for Ryo I’m not sure…
I’ll be playing with MightyMar tomorrow so I will upload some NGBC Casuals…
Are the stages laggy in the japanese version of this game?
I know the load times are longer but no level select makes playing the US copy frustrating.
Nope. That’s why people used the Japanese version in tournaments.
Are there any other notable differences?
I’m perfectly fine with restarting if Dragon Stage comes up.
Uh…US NGBC lags on every stage, not just the Dragon Stage.
It’s just even worse on the 3-D backgrounds with a lot of movement.
Here are the NGBC matches from 11-17-09:

Also I am looking at a serious uphaul of my equipment to get something similar to at least what scottind uses for the Arcade Infinity Matches because above all I do not like lag on videos AT ALL.
No.
It ONLY lags on the 3-D stages. Which is why I wish there was a stage select; the port would be fine if there was a way we could avoid the troublesome stages. Well curiously, it doesn’t lag on the Metal Slug stage, with the 3-D robot chasing you, but all the others it is basically unplayable.
I’m still wondering who the genius was at SNK who decided not to include a stage select was a good idea.
Same here, but at the times when you are playing with someone who will have none of it (:wonder:) than NTSC-J version is best used.
