As I say Brent this is why I go to Mexico!!! I need my fix, some may think it’s abnormal to travel LOLOLOLOL or whatever and may think it’s “easier” to play online, but for the newer games they aren’t on GGPO!! And what you all JUST GOT THIS ON XBLA??? A little late you know, the people that have been playing the game since the beginning are very very far/light years ahead right now…so playing online probably isn’t gonna do that much except let the tops run into the tops!!! (I’d rather just do that in person sorry) 98UM and 2002 UM are NOT on GGPO and I simply could give a rats ass anymore about OG 98 and 2002, but yet by the masses you still got all these people asking me to play these damn games online…let me give you a hint I DO NOT CARE, let them put 98UM and 2002 UM on GGPO and then I will have more of a reason to play them online on GGPO/play on GGPO!
If I wasn’t going to Mexico just sitting here in the USA not getting the competition I need I would’ve killed myself by now, it drives me UP THE WALL with frustration you have no idea!!! Going to Mexico enables me to put things in perspective here when I ain’t getting the challenge I seek, otherwise like I say I probably would’ve killed myself by now because it’s the same shit different toilet, year after year it’s like I only get a challenge from 5% of the people I run into here in the whole damn US of A in some games 3%…it’s so DAMN FRUSTRATING!!! xD
Mezzo- I will tell him that but show him that as well, also with Mai her level 2 it isn’t bad, I recommended that against Tung because we all know how much Tung loves to jump, having Mais level two keeps Tung grounded.
To the guy that asked for Marco- When I get time later on today I’ll watch that video and answer, and I’ll play Marco vs. mar next week as well.
MightyMar is progressing though and to me that is what matters the most!!!
That would mean first getting a 3rd XBOX 360, and only way I’m gonna tolerate that is if I get NO LAG, and I mean no lag whatsoever, if there is even a little bit of lag I ain’t gonna bother, I’d rather fly to Japan to play NGBC than put up with ANY lag whatsoever. I really cannot stand lag in anyway shape or fashion.
Traveling isn’t abnormal at all, but playing online is still a lot more accessible, and less expensive especially for a game with a relatively small scene, and no I’m not saying “online comp>offline comp”
For the record some of us have been playing this since the beginning but stopped caring because of lack of competition (or funds to travel where the competition is, etc), if anything NGBC being put on xbla is a godsend because it brought back a lot of old players and even introduced new players, what I don’t get is why you’re so sour about this? shouldn’t you be jumping for joy that more people want to play a game that you like/enjoy?
Well it’s not like I enjoy playing 2k2um training mode all day either, thank the good lord that it’s going to be xbla soon because I sure as hell don’t have the money to go all the way to Mexico just to have some proficient competition
Yeah but that’s the thing is you’re only getting competition because you’re going to Mexico right? you don’t get much of a challenge in the US because not too many want to train in a game nobody really plays, and since there isn’t too many people dedicated to traveling (whether they’re being lazy or not doesn’t matter) the scene will have a real hard time developing, but the convenience of online play fixes most of that because it provides a more solid infrastructure to build on and for a company like SNKP that’s all too important
I played and had a good connection with people from Canada (Phoenix Azure in Vancouver come to mind), I also played a guy from Japan (ping 250+) and while the connection was choppy it was still somewhat playable
Yeah. It still lags. It’s not bad, but it’s online and online = unplayable for many competitive players. For Geese and other serious players, any sort of random factor at all being in the game (lag spikes) makes it not the game it’s supposed to be.
It’s good to play casually and just get better, but that’s not what somebody like Geese is after right now. If he plays this game at all (which it’s not his main deal, that’d be more recent KOF games). Even when we all played this game, I think I remember him caring about XI more.
But yeah, for most everybody else in this thread, XBL NGBC is all we’ve got, and several people are interested in getting into it since they couldn’t before.
It’s just a catch 22, I’m happy about it as I told Hatred Edge don’t get me wrong, but as I say, I need my competition, and in the meantime I’ll be happy to help/teach people to play the game, but that still does NOT replace that burning desire to get the competition I seek.
I completely understand this, believe u me, if I could I’d be in Mexico levelling up 10x each couple of days playing Ismael in 2k2UM or Ivan or people like that.
I understand that to a degree, and to a degree meaning I am not gonna play a game just because other people are playing it, hence as I say I go to Mexico I play a game because first and foremost I want to, not because others are playing it, and if that means I have to go to Mexico to get my fix then I will, but yes I do hope online creates stronger opponents over a given amount of time.
I don’t really know how it works, but shouldn’t fighting games have no lag at all? COnsidering how much less is happening on screen compared to games like Modern Warfare and other big boy FPS’s, I’m surprised so many fighting games on consoles lag. Or is there more tech stuff involved?
Brent I actually have been playing this game more and more, Tung-Athena is no longer my main team, I have been experimenting with different styles in the game, yeah I like KOFXI more than this game, but I have been playing it more because I am experimenting with different styles, and due to the fact that I play Kim in almost every game I have discovered things with him I do not see nearly anyone else use in NGBC, so my Kim is slightly different than the cookie cutter ones.
And yes I still believe Tung is higher than B class in the right level his level one Muscleman super does have uses, it has more priority than regular Muscleman, and lows don’t beat it, unlike MuscleMan…
So I’m discovering a lot of new stuff in the game still…
But yeah I like KOFXI like 10x better than NGBC.
Purify is right though guys- Any lag whatsoever is simply unacceptable to me, I am that much of a perfectionist, that it is simply unacceptable.
Is Mexico playing NGBC now? I remember reading about your older Mexico tournaments and it didn’t seem like they were that interested in NGBC.
Pretty sure he is just using the command roll and cancelling out of Knife stance immediately after it.
There is no forced recovery from cancelling knife stance; you can attack immediately out of it.
Uh, DG…No offense but I’m missing the part where this is for MightyMar’s sake and him improving. How does you fighting him in matches and using the characters properly show us how he is improving? Why not just show the strats to him for those characters and let him use them?
I personally want to see MightyMar use his characters and get better with them; that’s the whole point we were posting about it above - we weren’t asking to see you use them. It defeats the purpose. We already know you are aware of system and can use those characters…if we wanted to see that we would have you to use them from the outset. Again, no offense, its just I see MM is a bit new to SNK games from the vids I see and I’d like to see him get better and win more often.
I was about to ask that, too. I’ve never known Mexico to be too interested in NGBC. If so, are they doing arcade or console?
You all cannot hear in the matches but 90% of the time when I am pausing the matches/we are idly sitting there or something strange happens and it doesn’t make sense that you all see it is because I am coaching MightyMar on what he should be doing, also me using Kyo/Mai etc will show him how I use them so that can help his character as well, if I am going to teach someone I am going to leave no stone unturned when I feel they are ready for it, which means even playing as Goodman, I am going to prepare them for as much as I can.
Me using MightyMar’s characters he sees the vids too and he now has the game so he will see what I do, mimic it, watch and analyze his videos, go back and apply it back home come back rinse and repeat, in our sessions in 98UM I almost used Shingo and it would’ve been for the same purpose, he combines how I play Shingo and how he plays him and it will show him new stuff that he can apply to his own style etc.
So I will not only coach him/advise him on what he should do, but SHOW HIM by me doing it in a match so he will see that way he’s heard it, SEEN IT, and can see it again in our match and can practice it at home and understand how it works! =)
As I said before my style of teaching is kinda how the Marines do it:
They tear you down first, then they build you back up into a Marine.
I tear down all things you entered in with, open your mind to things you may have never thought about, and build you up into a formidable opponent that has seen many things most people probably haven’t seen before.
Part of the reason I haven’t been playing the game online much. Even the slightest 3 frames of extra lag piss me off to no end. Also part of the reason I hate playing SSF4 online, I feel what little lag is there.
Experience is the greatest teacher in the world. It just depends on how the player evaluates how they are losing.
No lie, If I were to attempt bringing a player up into KOF or NGBC, I would play them a million times. Each time I would be calling out what I’m doing to win, rather than what he’s doing wrong.
I would never throw a book of general knowledge at the player b4 we actually play. Too much on their head. We can’t tell what DG is saying to him now that there is no microphone, but Mar is improving. I sure in the hell remember when DG first posted matches against him.
If there is any comment to be made, it should be “How diligently is MightyMar working on improving?”
Agreed with your post, but most of what you said has nothing to do with the specific point I was talking about.
Not sure what you mean by “general book of knowledge” but I’m gonna assume you mean the basic system mechanics and maneuvers like say D-assualt, and GFCS that are unique to this system. If so, than I disagree strongly. I don’t care if its just for casuals, I always ask my crew to study the game beforehand. I link them a FAQ, with said info and if they already have characters decided on I link them bnb combos and strats.
I’m sorry but I don’t just sit down and play games with people that don’t know how to play unless I’m equally noob to it (even then I probably still wouldn’t). That just seems a waste of time and to me very unfun.
I also don’t see the point of reteaching such information in the middle of playing (unless for very specific things) that someone could easily look up on the internet.
No argument there, but again that’s not really what I was referring to.
Well Mar has the game now, and he makes significant progress in the game when he has it in his possession, to which now I will also show him other things and he will learn about DA, GCFS, Rolling etc, I try to hit him with enough each time not to overwhelm him but what he can handle, and ontop of that hit him with enough to keep him pushing…so it’s like dangling that carrot out there, something to keep him working hard, I show him something new EACH time, I always have, that way just when he thinks he’s figuring it out I got a new wrinkle to throw at him, that way he learns to adapt better than anything, because that is what it takes to do well in tournaments, and I told him yesterday in high level tournaments it’s not the big stuff that wins, it’s the LITTLE STUFF, the little stuff wins tournaments!!! The little stuff separates good players from GREAT, etc etc. I mean if everyone knows the same thing what separates one person from the next? EXPERIENCE and the little things…
Reason I believe you should play them and beat them first is merely to measure their capacity. If you give them something to study before playing, it is up to you to determine if they actually studied the basic concepts of gameplay wholeheartedly, and not many are willing to devote that much study time into a game they are literally new to.
I would rather play them and wait for a question like “I wanna learn how to beat you, how do I do such?” Now you’ve determined they have the heart to actually work towards improving.
I have attempted to teach 9 people to play KOF XI. How many stayed, none. And I’m not saddened by that, it’s kind of a respect thing. I refuse to make someone play at a competitive level, when they have no desire to play the game that way.
Once again, I was referring to your initial comment on DG teaching Mar.
You guys are really concerned about this dude for some reason. If he wants to get better, he will.
This has happened so many times now, lol…Geese finds a new person that hasn’t played SNK before and records vids, posts them and people jump on it. I guess the previous guys just aren’t around anymore.
Whatever happened to Joey? He playing anything now?
