My match against Adon player. Can anyone give me tips for this match up? Usually I have a lot of trouble with Adons. Especially with the neutral jump/cross up shenanigans on wake up.

Adon was a bit garbage, a little too predictable with HK jag tooth. Handled it pretty well though imo.

I noticed you didn’t punish his HK jaguar tooth with headbutt. Is it because you thought it might be a potential bait and the use of Adon Ultra 1 (combined with the increased headbutt recovery)?

As for jump-happy Adons, all I can think of is FADC’ing outta there and trying to maintain a safe distance.

Also, what’s this matchup supposed to be? 5:5?

you can cr.hp his off the wall kicks on reaction, this is safer than headbutt (in case he does the light version). Last time I checked this beat out all strengths of his off the wall kicks. There’s a video in the old matchup thread.

yo rocky i noticed you did a standing jab into headbutt at minute 1:35, now i havent actually tried doing that but did you do that on purpose and if so how?

I press LP at the same time I’m going upback with the stick. So it looks something like this db + lp, db + lp, b + lp, ub + hp.
It is a old habit. In SSF4 it was better since s.LP hit some of the characters even when they were crouching. Now I try not to do it, but sometimes it still comes out. Although if the s.LP whiffs, the headbutt won’t come out so it is safe in that way.

Edit: To be clear, it is not very useful or practical most of the time.

standing jab into headbutt is an input leniency, similar to Gen walk forward wall jump, you have one input so if you go from down-back to back+punch then up-back Punch you will get a headbutt. hope this helps.

Trying to get better with the Adon match up. Turtling and being defensive seems to be the way for me, but unfortunately it sometimes leads to very salty opponents.

Wow. That’s weird. I’m usually active around the Adon forums and Tigermoggy seemed like a nice dude. Can’t believe he’d resort to sending salty XBL messages. Also, aren’t you guys from different countries? Was it a laggy connection?

I frequently use both characters though, and if I was that Adon it’s kinda understandable that a Rog would turtle and play lame.

Just remembered, Justin Wong’s Adon got dismantled by PR Rog relatively recently. If your struggling with the matchup, why not watch the Balrog master on Youtube.

Yeah Finland <-> England, but the connection wasn’t bad. It was definitely very playable and lag wasn’t an issue.

I guess he doesn’t like playing against Rog and got really salty for losing.

Sakura Set, here’s the descrip:

@0:25 - A charged hado to double dash full-screen is a viable way to get in, but it’s not in Sakura’s “Range”.
@0:45 - Sakura doesn’t have any viable wakeup options, and even if she had meter ex.dp has 12 of startup.
@1:12 - Sakura has a dead-space after fireball where she’s recovering and can’t easily AA because ex.dp has a lot of startup and her lp.dp doesn’t have any invincibility. (in this matchup, trades are never in her favor)
@1:32 & @2:48 - ex.fb go full screen w/o charging.
@1:35 - Focus attack cancel release then dash is safer than just dashing backwards or forwards but she can be attacked while she’s charging (some attacks have sufficient recovery to make the inbetween time safe).
@2:30 - Sakura’s gdlk cr.hp (5f su)
@3:28 - Sakura’s st.lp is like Balrog’s in that she’s mad positive on hit and block.
@3: 43 - Attempted headbutt

@5:50 - This is the safest way to exit Sakura’s mixup most of the time, sometimes the backdash will auto-correct if you do it too early and make you bakdash into the corner though, you can also exit it with headbutt.
@7:00 - This is punishing landing frames, there are four frames where you can’t move after landing (notice he was holding up and couldn’t avoid it).

@8:20 - Notice the gratuitous use of the focus absorbs , this early in the match where she’s attempting to build super meter, I can in turn build Revenge meter (which is harder to come by) and super meter . Having Ultra this early in the match gives you the opportunity to use it to 1) combo into high damage putting her in the corner or 2) burn ultra to get out of the corner mix-up when she neutral jumps.
@8:50 & @10:20 - Keeping Sakura in the corner while buffing my revenge meter, Sakura can’t cross up at that distance so she’ll always land in front and you can FADC backdash for the extra meter.
@9:08 - Sakura still has runaway Tatsu in AE.
@10:00 - Sakura’s cr.mk xx hado is NOT a blockstring, although you’ll probably never see it again.
@10:32 - Again, trades are never in Sakura’s favor.
@10:49 - Blockstring using a lvl2 FA (+3 on block forward dash cancel) into chip damage.

@12:20 - It works…I just missed it royally.
@13:00 - I think this is an instant OH.
@13:24 - Reversal strikes break armor.
@14:26 - ex.dashes can beat some DPs, especially when used in frame traps (as long as they’re not reversals).
@14:48 - this is her ideal range to AA you after throwing a fireball.
