"Needs more Dudley!" The Boxer Video Thread

Highlights from this week’s Vanilla SF4 experience.

As per usual, nothing fancy, mostly focusses on the simple combos, shinanigans and scenarios I encounter but because opponents play randomly these moments are often scattered all across 10-20+ fights as opposed to contained in one single fight with a great opponent… Hence I make one of these mish-mash movies each week.

Purely for fun and entertainment - Happy to have landed an Upper AA into Ultra for a change and am suprised at how many people fall for wakeup meaty CStrong into X Combo (Typically overhead as it tends to CH/Stuff their wakeup move and most people automatically hit down-back when this happens, very misleading).

GbHhikKCeq0]YouTube - ?SF4? Keyboard Battle - RopeDrink [Balrog] vs [Akuma

Been a while since I’ve uploaded a proper match - Always enjoy fighting this guy, mostly because he tends to annihilate me and teach me a lesson. Uploaded 1-1 so that I could critique both ends of the spectrum, wouldn’t mind if other people pitched in their tips.

Don’t need to be reminded of certain bad habits like my obvious overuse of misplaced/uncalled for TAPS or midscreen desperation naked EX Rushes etc

^@Rope
Well there are a lot of unnecessary TaPs. You seemed a little overhead happy in the one where you won and the Akuma finally started to grab you out of it.

Dropped a combo at 2:00 it seems. Desperation headbutt at 3:10ish. And even though you were pretty close the whole match, rush punching an Akuma with full Ultra/U1 isn’t good.

4:13 gets me everytime I see it or do it. Haha so perfect.

@MagMan: Really nice matches against that Chun. Smart use of j.rh,c.rh and c.jab,c.jab+c.rh option selects. The only real tip I can give you is that in the first match, Chun focuses a dash punch, and hits you back with a full focus combo, but you had 2 bars at the time - when you throw out a dash punch and see your opponent focuses it, FADC-backdash it. Most opponents will still release the focus, and it gives you a window of punishment - even if they have godlike reactions, and backdash you still avoid eating a full combo, which makes the two meters well worth it.

This is just a video of me in a tournament - not the most impressive match, but I figured I’d throw it out there.

It’s just part of my gameplay, really. If you see all my shinanigan movies (Posted quite a few before that actual match) you see I get away with murder because 90% of the opponents don’t seem to know how to deal with it. Arman110 is someone who CAN deal with it. After the first game I beat him twice in a row, seemingly out of luck or sloppy blocking but after that, he adapted and tore me a new ass. I can’t break certain habits like TAP’ing at stupid times, mostly because the majority of people I play often just chuck random fireballs and I tend to expect them, or to discourage FocusDash spammers trying to catch me using rushes.

I dropped a combo out of frustration, normally I wouldn’t drop a BnB but he was getting to me. It happens I guess ^^

Thanks for the post though!

@Basics: Going to watch that match a little later

Very nice match, Basics. I find Guiles like that extremely frustrating  Good job keeping cool and a very nice comeback at the end.

My Ranked Match against a Rufus that I had lost before.

I’m pretty happy that I stayed patient for most of the match and blocked his attacks fairly good. Of course there’s still a lot of mistakes, dropped combos and unsafe stuff, but somewhat less than normally.

Poor Gravity Ninja, i never loose against him. If think he hates Boxer now…
And every time he gets throwned, you can see that he techthrow but it don’t work !
And you did a good match, nice defense.

Here are some matches of me fighting Simply Ph33r, one of the better Rufus’ on XBL. He uses Guile and Chun-Li in most of these vids, which are easily Balrog’s two hardest matches. He plays them pretty competently and I have to play very careful to win. I’m extremely knowledgeable of the Chun match-up, so you guys can check out how I space him, as well as scoff at some dumb things I do, ha… He uses an abnormal amount of wake-up EX bird on jump ins, not entirely profitable, but it gets me off him I guess.

I apologize in advance for how loud my computer is and how loudly I type, ha!

Expect some videos of me getting raped by Wolfkrone’s Viper soon! I need a lot of help with top level Viper’s…

Hey everyone, i was wonder if anyone can give me a little help with the viper match up. I hear its supposed to be free, but for the life of me I always seem to lose to vipers. I dont get to play vipers that often, so stuff i actually try in practice mode (I.E. wake up option select) my timing is way off by the time i play her in a legit match.

anything that can be pointed out from these vids let me know thanks!
I should have another one up, whenever it gets uploaded.

Another video for those just looking for a laugh or zany situations from PoV of nab-Boxer stuck in Vanilla on PC/Keyboard.

Some fun stuff in there like Blanka’s up close Ultra (Autocorrected) still whiffing despite me being in range etc etc

Ice0age is just reckless… his/her reactions are sooooo good too.

Sweet Jebus… That was lovely!
EDIT:
As are the related searched of him vs Tokido (Akuma) and random others, got to keep my eyes open for this chap

Part 1 of 9 of Mago’s 15k BP Rog. Too lazy to link them all but some really good stuff here. Frame traps/counter hit setups, good use of balrogs’ moblility with dashes…nice safejump setups. Good stuff!

I’ve been following him since he was B+ ranked. Dude is a fucking beast! Wreckless and careless at times but he can bring the pain. My favorite Japanese Rog out there on Super (still much <3 for Maeda and Pamyu).

criticism is welcome on my Rog

Not bad at all. I like some of the EX Rush Uppers to blow through moves and start loops. Something I’ve been trying to incorporate. I think the biggest issue you have is dropping loops and other combos. If you’re going to play risky like that, you want to get all you can out the opportunities. The good thing is, all you really need for that is practice. Also, I think you go for a few too many semi-random headbutts.

Match v Rose:

 • Opened every round with Lgt.Dash Straight - Predictable but the opponent didn’t bother to adapt and punish. Don’t be a one trick pony.

 • The player didn’t seem to know how to block a simple jumpin until the last round - On the flipside, anytime she jumped in you threw out badly spaced or wrong headbutt’s letting her punish you rather than you punishing her for jumping. Just downfierce or use a more appropriate Headbutt - All characters have different speed and jumping Arcs so learn which one is best and when to use it - But that should only be if you want to follow with an Ultra, otherwise use DFierce or SStrong (MP)

*Too much crouching, it’s like you eventually give up and decide to move forward with EX Rushes or regular Rushes rather than just walk forward into a better position after 5+ seconds of “Ok, she’s not going to come to me to make my life easier”. Get out of this habit ASAP.

*Many dropped combos, work on that EX RU Looping - If you get an EX RU you really need to be able to capitalize on it, especially in high pressure situations.

Match v Vega:

*Random Headbutting… BAD.

*Fullscreen / Random Dashes from out of Range… BAD.

*Vega jumped in and you decided to release a level 3-4 TAP (Done this twice) and on other occasions more Headbutts that whiff leaving you open… See above - You need to work on your AA.

Overall your AA and Mobility is very poor and needs work - Less crouching, less needless Headbutts and don’t rely on Specials to close the Gap - A forward walking Balrog is very intimidating.

Otherwise, you’ve got some of the basics down and will improve, no doubt.
