Need help making my pc better for final fantasy 14

ok guys im in the ff beta and just read its gona be up 24/7. problem is i want this game to run 60fps at max settings. its runs ok at 720p but still not enough. then i tryed putin it 1080p. looked beautiful as hell but the fps was just to low to be playable. what do i really need to make this game run godliek on my pc. i no im most likely gona need a better video card. anythign else? here are my specs

intel core 2 duo e7400 2.80ghz

ati radeon hd 4670
2gb of ram
running windows xp

also i do have a motherboard on the side that i won in pax east. but it will only take ddr3 ram and icore cpus. so i just might switch out my old one if i have to buy a new cpu. heres the mb

Newegg.com - Intel Extreme Series BOXDX58SO LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Sure man I’d love to help you out just pm me ur beta account info and ill set it up for you… lucky bastard

Nah but remember that when dealing with betas bad fps doesn’t always mean your hardware needs upgrading. Especially with mmos where the #1 frame killer is net lag. Upgrading your video card wouldn’t be a bad idea but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t fully solve your problem

true true. but lookin at my specs im pretty sure i need to upgrade anyways. i just wana see whats good out there since i know technology grows fast. like what are the good decent price video cards out right now, that will prolly make this game runs smooth?

found this post ont he beta website. goal is for either make it to 8000 or atleast 5500?7999.

Ok, this list is updated, I hope this helps some people place their hardware, and/or see if their hardware is compatible. If I missed something please let me know

Performance settings and Your Machine
This is a construction of what hardware can play FFXIV and how well can it play XIV. The hardware stated here is for a good assumption of performance, FFXIV beta is not the final product so performance should and will be better with the final product. The hardware performance is derived from product research, current Beta Tester?s results, the benchmark and machines running similar demanding apps (AoC, Crysis).

This assumes a few things.

  1. FFXIV is heavily threaded and works better with more threads/cores (to certain extent)
  2. FFXIV will fix OS/ATI issues shortly
  3. This does not take in account for Xfire or SLI. You can pretty much jump up a notch with SLI or Xfire. NOTE: FFXIV BETA DOES NOT UTILIZE XFIRE OR SLI CURRENTLY.
  4. A standard resolution of 1920x1200 for higher performers, 1600X1050 for mid level and 1200X800 for lower end machines. Lower settings can jump you up a notch or two, while higher settings can lower you a notch or 2.
  5. Assumes a good mobo, 4 gigs of DDR2 or higher ram (Even on high settings it does not seem to utilize more than 3 gigs of ram) and generally good cooling.
  6. Standard clock. An OC on the CPU and/or GPU can jump you up a notch.
  7. These are Desktop Cpus
Remember, your machine is only as fast as its slowest part.

Hardware on this list and you are still having issues?

  1. UPDATE YOU DRIVERS OS and GFX
  2. Turn shadows Low or Off, this will help ten-fold
  3. Keep an eye on known issues and wait for fixes (gotta hate this one lol)
  4. Turn off your Anti-virus and Anti-Spyware
  5. Turn of Xfire or Sli (until they implement this) Anyone know if they activated xfire/sli yet??
  6. OC (IF YOU ARE COMFORTALBE DOING THIS AND KNOW HOW)
  7. If this statement occurs, ?I think my system is below par,? it probably is; check the list
  8. Update Direct X to latest Redistributable version through Windows Update (as of this post DirectX Redist (June 2010))
  9. No confirmed ability to play with AGP cards as of yet; sorry AGP users.

Any cards/CPUs not listed here and work smoothly, let me know and I will update this list!

now whats the cheapest way to go that route? lol

Current machine:
intel core 2 duo e7400 2.80ghz

ati radeon hd 4670
2gb of ram
running windows xp

Yeah, you’re WAY behind for a demanding game. You’ll want something more like

  • Core i5/i7 with as many Mhz as you can afford (2.8+)
  • 4-8GB of ram. Seriously, go with 8
  • Windows 7 (you will want 64bit, since you will be 4+ GB of ram)
  • Radon 57/58XX line, Nvidia GT460/470/480 line

If you want 1080p at 60fps, you need to buy all new.

looks liek im goint hat route. now whats the cheapest of those parts? any1 know a few fron new egg?

This card looks nice:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121372

Id say @ 300 bucks it’s a good deal. Whenever I look at a vid card I like to stay at the 250 to 300 range. I get the most high end bang for my buck that way.

I would look up an ati card but it looks like the beta currently has problems with ati cards

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

That card is a 470 line. If you want the TOP of the line, it’s 480 (as listed from your copy and paste). You may get 1080p, but maybe not 60fps.

You also want at least a Core i7 860/870/875 for your CPU to go with that.

hmmm whats the cheapest out them all tho? like idk bout prices when it comes to hardware.im gona order all this from new egg.o and i looked around.to get atleast 8000 performance gona be pretty pricy lol. gona jst got with 5999-7999.

I’m in the beta too, and from what the community has been saying is that two cores is running better than 4 or even in my scenario, 6. They haven’t optimized it for more than two cores. Also, DONT GO ATI. Tons of dudes in the beta are having probs with ATI cards. Other than that, there isn’t really a set formula for the game. a 200 series nvidia card will work fine, 4 gb ram, and a quad cpu.

Funny though, I have a i7 980x, 12gb ddr3 ram, and a 275gtx and I am only getting 2500 on the benchmark.

Oops, double posted.

@blayzu25: Are you looking to upgrade – i.e. change out only the motherboard, CPU, graphics card and memory, keeping most everything else – or build a new computer? What’s your budget like?

are u runnign it at 1080p and gettin good fps?

loosk liek ima switch the mb bc ima get ddr3 ram. and yea ima just get the cpu motherboard and ram. i have everythign else. budget hmm lets say 300-600$

hows this cpu? Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601930

This would be a better buy:
Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor BX80605I7870

That i7-930 needs three channels of ram: your minimum amount of ram will be 6GB. The one I listed only requires dual channel and has more Mhz.

If FF14 truly doesn’t scale well with more than two cores, you’d be better off buying:
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-680 Clarkdale 3.6GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80616I5680

It’s only dual core, but is 3.6Ghz.

kinda weird that the dual core is more expensive then icore 7

That i7-930 needs three channels of ram: your minimum amount of ram will be 6GB. The one I listed only requires dual channel and has more Mhz.

what does that mean?

If you get the 9XX line, the MINIMUM amount of ram you are buying is:
Newegg.com - GeIL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model GV36GB1066C7TC

If you get the 8XX line, the MINIMUM amount of ram you are buying is:
Newegg.com - GeIL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10660) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model GV34GB1333C9DC

Intel i7 boards are also a bit more expensive than i5 boards (but will take more ram, have more slots, etc).

the motherboard i have has 4 slots. i wana fill them up. im guessin gettin like 8gb of ddr3 is good?
