Necalli Beginners Thread

What do you guys do off jabs?
I’m mostly using standing mk >> crouch mp to catch people out but are their any good frametraps using st lp or cr lp ?

st.lp is +2 on block
st.mk is 5 startup
this creates a 3f gap that beats everything except invincible reversals.

st.mk is +2 on block as well, with
cr.mp being a 5f startup, you basically but your opponent into frametrap city

How do you get in with Necalli? I just get out-poked and I’m constantly having to play the opponent’s game. Super safe character like Bison and Cammy give me a ton of trouble to when they’re in close and they out-range me.

I also get jumped in at close range a lot because I can’t do shit at close-mid range and his anti-airs blow at close range.

St jab is a good close range AA. It will trade a lot but it can keep jumpers at bay.

What is necalli´s gameplan? he looks like a rushdown character but i just seem to just keep losing with him against everyone

Basically use st.hk and cr.mk to poke. Whiff punish with st.mk and st.mp. Random ass dashes to get in, then go ham with your really good close range buttons.

Off the point, but ive seen you say go ham a few times on here. I know that means hard as mutherf**ker because of a kanye west song, but where im from it means absolute retard. So everytime I see you say go ham I just picture Necalli flailing wildly at his opponent. I dont even think its bad advice either way.

There are some days you just got to DP on a motherfucker’s wake up. You’ll know it in your bones

So does Necalli have any safe jump setups?

Hello devourers, I’m a refugee from Shadowloo, escaping the clutches of Bison after realising that having no reversal versus Laura and Mika makes for a very depressing fighting life. Necalli was actually the character that I liked the most in the starting roster, but I ended up playing Bison out of familiarity (SF2/SF4).

Looking forward to learning everything about Necalli. Have already watched the Momochi video and get hyped about PR Balrog, Haitani and Gamerbee playing the character.

So i’m practicing a setup from Brian_F on youtube and am kinda having trouble with it. The setup is cornor only cr.fp xx hk.stomp juggle lk.stomp. Then immediate mk.stomp for quick rise to trade with 3fr jab and vtrigger cancel to big dmg. I’m noticing that my mk.stomp on wakeup sometimes comes out too early and hit the ground and runs out of active frames just before i have training dummy respond with jab. Has anyone noticed this? it also happens in game locally with friends as well. I’m wondering if the 3frame buffer they give us is somehow canceling a frame or 2 for the setup to be out of active frames since it is a meaty setup. I also noticed this happening on sweep dash st.lk on quick rise.

Also possible problems is i’m using PC, and x360ce for stick/controller support. I havn’t tried it on ps4 yet.

Probably a stupid questions, but are you in VT? Active frames on VT Stomps are longer…if i remember right most setups require VT…

It’s not a vtrigger only setup. Also same thing happens on normal sweep dash st.lk. sometimes comes out too early and wiffs, sometimes it comes out right and is true max meaty. Tested on ps4, and it didn’t wiff once. Weird

Couple of questions:

  1. What is the use off standing medium kick and standing medium punch? They help link into crouching medium punch but thats about it. and medium goes into target combo into v-skill.
  2. What do you do to open up your opponent? I have a hard time opening up my enemies when playing with necalli.
  3. Why is his v-kill so bad? recovery seems as bad as birdies.
  4. How to learn to play necalli efficiently?
  5. What to do on somebodies wakeup?
  6. This medium kick crossup is very bad or is it just me who is using it incorrectly?
  1. Linking into cr.mp is a pretty big deal. Goes into stomp or discs guidance.
  2. Frame trap with st.mk and cr.mp, then look for opportunities to confirm into stomp or his cmd throw.
  3. Its not bad. Use it from the proper distance to either build trigger or force turtles to come to you.
  4. As said, frame trap, use stomp, use ex cmd throw, and use st. hk for CC. Also, use his overhead.
  5. I’ll usually continue cr. mp pressure or throw an overhead.
  6. Haven’t really thought much about it, will get back to you after some training mode.

Hope that helps for now!

The crossup MK is actually really good. It’s especially ambiguous against characters like Nash and Alex due to their wide stances and weird hit boxes.

any tips against birdie?
i just start out with nec and he just can outpoke me without me being not able to do anything against it and the groundpund can be command jump grabbed too.

i want to learn nec because his buttons are so much better then the ones from nash just to get matches against a birdie against i cant do jackshit because non of my normals is reaching him.
jesus fucking sf5 -.-

Lol first of all, Nash’s buttons are WAY better than Necalli’s. Way more options and utility in the neutral game. All Nash is really missing is a 3f normal.

Second, Birdie is a hard matchup for Necalli. He wins the neutral. You really have to take advantage of Birdie’s weak defensive options. V Skill is actually really good against Birdie, you probably just have to make them less predictable. Birdie has to counter Necalli’s V Skill pre-emptively. His options aren’t quick enough to raw react with. Also, stand roundhouse is good against Birdie and so is jump fierce. I feel that, due to the length of Birdie’s normals and him having weak defensive options, this is a matchup where you have to learn to “whiff punish” Birdie’s whiffed normals with a forward dash. So you can pressure him to the corner and kill him there.

i disagree on the first part.
the only thing which nash has going on for him would be the crouch mk which he doesnt get anything out of it.
all his other long range command normals can be crushcounter fished or punished on block when not correct spaced.

thx for the insight on the second part.

Anything can be crush counter fished or punished when misspaced. This is not exclusive to Nash’s command normals. And if you’re Nash trying to jump in on Birdie instead of trying to dominate spacing, and doing raw V Triggers, then you’re probably playing the matchup wrong.
