Necalli Beginners Thread

You can deal with backroll via a jump in but it’s very character specific on what you have to do in order to dodge or beat anti airs

I’m no expert, but general theory tells me to let them back roll and to walk up to them instead. Sure, they escape pressure, but they’re giving up positioning, i.e., getting backed up to the corner. Hopefully your B&B ends in DG for corner carry.

honestly sometimes its less risky to just let them get up. Necalli has weak pressure overall

I feel like this is a super noob question but now that i’ve been getting much more comfortable with the game and the character what exactly is the point of EX DPing? I.E When is it worth it(Obviously if it’s going to kill, it’s worth)? Between using meter on bnbs, converting damage off lights, and command grab’s to go for resets or to bait v reversals I am constantly starved for meter. What is the rationale behind EX dping? I get faster startup, but I was under the impression heavy DP was more then enough, given it’s invincibility frames. When I look back at my replays, everytime I do it i’m pretty sure upon self reflection I notice my thought process was probably along the lines of “Fuck this guy” and generally later down the round I also notice there’s usually a spot I could have converted a lot more damage if I hadn’t. But I mean…Fuck that guy.

Faster, invincible for longer, slightly more damage and stun.

Being faster means you can’t safejump it and it’s easier to deal with a variety of situations where a 7f DP might whiff or be blocked.
Being invincible for longer means you can deal with moves that make your opponent hang in the air such as Devil’s Reverse or a Divekick without losing.
Doing more damage and stun is generally worthwhile after an HK Stomp where an HP DP only hits twice (although I’d still go for EX Stomps midscreen) or if you just need that extra bit to finish them off or stun them.

Ex dp is 3 frame startup, hp is 7 so it definitely is faster.

Ex dp and hp have the same invincible frames though (1-7).

My bad, was thinking it lasted longer. I do believe your hitbox is much higher up after those 7 frames so the reasoning still works there for dealing with moves that let you hang around airborne for longer.

I’ve been using Necalli’s V-skill alot. It’s actually pretty good at throwing your opponent off because they often don’t see it coming.

I’m having a heck of a time linking CA from v-skill. CA activates, jumps, whiffs. I’m using the target combo base of MK HK MK+MP. I can catch from stomp with minimal issue.

Need to V Trigger Cancel the VSkill

Are you trying to link it or cancel it? I’ve only ever tried cancelling the target combo, but I know that works consistently. Try drumming (plinking?) all 3 P buttons when you input the super.

Not true, just the cancellation window is tiny.

Target combos in this game are great cause once you confirm the first part, timing doesn’t really matter for the rest. So I basically hit MK, then get to MP+MK quickly from HK. When he raises his hand to pound, buff CA motion.

I’ll post a vid when I get home doing it.

Now CA from a raw vskill, that as far as I know is impossible without a VT cancel

hopefully this isn’t too obvious, but you can also combo into CA here if you have the meter

edit: oops, sorry. didn’t see the ‘no meter’ part!

standing LK is good, if you get a CC off it, HK stomp is good, or just DP. Can’t get combos off everything

Are there any differences between the two versions of Necalli’s super (V-trigger vs no V-trigger) other than damage?

positioning. he gets meaties afterwards if he’s in vt.

Any tips for the negative edge? I negative edge mp slash after cr.mp all the time…

As in how to not do it? Just tap your buttons when you press them instead of holding them for any extended period of time and slow down your inputs. Or fully hold down your buttons until you’re done with your cancels.

Ur Not alone in that @Choy lol. General consensus is to hold mp after or to focus on tapping it really quick. Both work but you gotta see which is more reliable. Tapping is probably the better option though

its a shame you can’t turn off negative edge in SFV xD
