NC players who have made it on the national level. I spoke with Kasht last week and he said hes going to reactivate for TTT2, he said and I quote “you guys are gonna need that Changs practice”.
NC players who have placed in out of state tournaments off the top of my head.
See where im going here? And thats nowhere near everyone. The player base has always been there, the sessions were pretty much always posted, mainly on TZ. The only thing thats really changed is now we have facebook and other social networking methods that make communication MUCH easier. You guys have NO IDEA how excited I am to see what happens in the coming weeks, but im also afraid to see how many people will be intimidated by the amount of work thats going to have to be put into reaching the level of the guys that HAVE BEEN HERE that have only gotten stronger over the past few months.
Also ive ALWAYS supported the game. Please dont put that on me lol. But as we have discussed before, im only ONE man. I can only speak for myself.
Thats all I have to say on the matter. Im just gonna play my game and see whos serious.
Are we talking about competitive KoF13 or KoF13 playerbase as a whole? If the online was better, it would have a ton more casual players. Having online monsters for your game is very important.
I love KOF 13 but I’m unwilling to commit to it because it is unplayable online and I have no local comp. Difficulty isn’t a deterrent for me, its not having anyone to play with. It’s a shame too, I really think its the best game out right now.
I play fighting games because I love the deep metal engagement people can have. Anything where you have the chance to out think someone is exciting to me! The rush is like no other! This goes for anything! I love sports and competed really hard and did well and most of the ones I played. From Basketball, to Football, Tennis, Swimming, Dodgeball, Ping-Pong, etc. I love competition! I love pushing myself to see how far I can go. I want to know my limits! I told myself I was going to lose weight! 80 pounds later there you have it! I love pushing myself and mentally fighting games does it damn near second to none!
Plus some of the best times of my life have been shared with many of you reading this! Thanks for that! Now that a damn good reason to play fighting games!
Agreed. Some of the best times of my life are the candid moments we have all had while traveling or at sessions. A conversation had over the after tournament dinner, or a joke made on the long road trips. I feel closer to this “brotherhood” than to some of the guys I grew up with sometimes. We might argue and fight and have beefs, but ive seen our real nature when things get heavy. Being a part of this scene and meeting some of you guys actually pushed me to want to better myself. I wont go into all the specifics of who said or did what to impact me but its amazing how something some people frown upon like videogames has brought so many of us together who would have NEVER crossed paths otherwise and made lifelong bonds. And I never want to see those bond cuts, unless by death.
AWESOME games last night with Javier and P-Soul. DEFINITELY improved a lot before the night was over. Now to work on my offensive answers. But I had fun and really enjoyed it. Must do again!
I don’t think the game is “too hard.” I feel somewhat “rewarded” when I do well in the game. When I punish at the right time or get the combo off I practiced I feel like I had to work for that. Like I earned it. Not saying you can’t feel that way with other fighters, but to me KOF gives that feeling of accomplishment when you get it right that I don’t feel I get from many other fighters.
Do so stay in Raleigh or near the area? Or Durham perhaps?
The bolded part is key. Tekken I know from research has been really huge in NC since the T5 days. Maybe even before. I don’t have a TZ account, but I was still able to find sessions because I had the people’s numbers and was able to come out. I was able to meet you and other top players because I put myself out there. I called and contacted you about playing Tekken. I was able to find people when the game was pretty much on its last leg just waiting for something new, so how anyone else can say they couldn’t find sessions when it was going harder before I don’t know.
I wouldn’t say its “hate for AE,” there’s just some people who do not like the game because they simply do not like the game. Nothing against anyone who does, but I personally do not like it. The “hate” comes from those who troll others for disliking it, but then turn around and dislike other games not because they think its a bad game but because they can not win in it. Instead of learning the game and becoming better its easier to say “This game sucks” and quit with your ego blowing up. How do you praise a game, start losing, then have every excuse in the book to make as to why the game is “bad.” Not calling any names, but if they’re reading this and get offended by that then they probably know who they are.
That’s more than GG. You’ve made MY point for me.
And second Daniel, Bryan, Lawrence, Justin (glasses), Justin’s (glasses) brother, Michael and that’s not including a few other Raleigh/Cary players nor any of the Charlotte players like Jovan, Brandon, and a few others nor including Justin (from VA I think he’s from. not LM) and Justin (although retired). And that’s also excluding a few others I missed. See no one had to tell me all these people are playing Tekken. I found them because I was looking for people who were playing Tekken.
Take it how you will and not trying to target you, but I don’t want people to get the wrong idea like there is no one around to play Tekken with. There are players out there and I’m pretty sure its going to grow even more after Tag2.
I guess I should give a real answer since I was in troll mode on my last one:
My answer isn’t much different from you guys. I love pushing myself and seeing how far I can go and I love testing myself against other people. Seeing if I can out think them and just that mental struggle and adaptation that’s needed at a higher level, it’s really exciting to me. I also like that coming into this community, anyone I meet, I instantly know I have something in common with. You guys are like war buddies or something to me and maybe in the past I just considered people “those guys I play games with” but now that most people started treating me better, I consider almost all of you my friends.
Tournaments are always memorable and probably, atleast to me, one of the most enjoyable things I’ve ever done, which is what keeps me coming back. I love seeing that hard work pays off in fighting games most of the time and seeing myself and others grow as players over time is a testament to that. And on top of that, a lot of the challenges and hurdles you face in fighting games can apply to the challenges and hurdles you face in real life. “Just accept it and find a way to deal with it” is something I probably never would have learned without playing fighting games competitively. Most people outside the FGC are more willing to complain about something and “wait for the patch”, but us? We man it out and overcome it, which is a lot better in the end, IMO.
Anyway, long story short, the FGC has shaped me for the better I think.
KOF HEADS:
Javier, Lu, Phil, all the other guys that still play, would you guys ever be up for coming to my place for a gathering for KoF? I really wanna play some good competition but I can’t really afford to drive out to Durham right now, and Durham seems to be the nest of KoF (pun intended). If you guys ever wanted to play and don’t mind coming out here, I’d love you forever.
Brent also hosts sometimes, I’m sure he’d be down for KoF if that would be a better gathering spot?
Jon, y u no ask for ride to Durham to play KOF?! You stay right down the street. Plus Ive said before I dont mind carpooling if people arr trying to play.
The reason KOF feels rewarding for when you get a hit is because you do actually have to put in work to get the opening, plus combos do so much damage. Not saying you don’t have to work to get openings in other games, but KOF definitely feels like it takes more work and more knowledge of your opponent. Damage is a bit too high sometimes, though. If I hadn’t been out of town on Monday, I definitely would have wanted to come through and play, so keep me posted in the future guys. =)
Looking foward to Tag 2 next week, will try to fit some gatherings into my schedule.
