NC Thread LXVIII

So Alex is better fundamentals and muscle memory and therfore he’s going to always be better than the rest of the tourney players in NC? Wow!!! HE DOESN’T PRACTICE AT ALL. So i guess no one else will ever win lmao.

Last Wednesday we had our smallest turn out yet due to Halloween being celebrated by a lot of people (it was lucky we even ran WNB since we were suppose to cancel and have it next week due to Champps having their own events) and thus they missed WNB. We had two good tournaments that were very hype as well as a lot of casual time for everyone to grind out in their game of choice. I hope that this didnt leave a bad impression on the people that came out of town (someone drove all the way from South Carolina) due to how small the crowd was so hopefully they will come back in future events. We had a few issues that I like to address some which people know about and some which I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page.

We had a couple of mistakes of our own, yes the TH staff members made a couple of bad calls and had a few mistakes going on. We were late, we setup stuff late, and we didnt acknowledge what was happening in terms of time and what players were doing and so the tournament ran differently.

On behalf of the TH staff I want to apologize to David Miller and everyone that was not happy with how things turned out Wednesday night. We take players feedback into consideration and make changes according to what people want. We started tournaments at a different time than usual due to a couple of things like us being late, players being late, and players doing money matches before the tournaments…that really took a lot of time (an hour and 15 minutes) and we honestly didnt count on that which of course is our fault…so instead of us starting at our regular time we started to run tourneys an hour and half later…WE ARE VERY SORRY! And rest assure that this WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!

With that being said we are taking the following actions (which have been established before but we are reinforcing them so this is more of a reminder) so that we have a consistent start of events.

Schedule.

-Casuals start at 6:00PM (sometimes a little later we too have jobs)
-Registration will start at 7:30PM
-Tournaments will start at 8:00PM - 8:30PM
-Money Matches will have to be done before 8:00PM (with enough time to finish of course) or after tournaments are over.

These are set and final times of how we are gonna run things, is no different at all than our past schedule but we got a little laid back since players kept on showing up late…but with issues still happening you either you make it on time or you dont. But if you are gonna be arriving later than 8:00PM you can call or text to let us know to put you in the bracket and we will delay your matches as long as we can.

TOs Phone Numbers:
Fco. James Garcia (MX Mad): 919-219-3774
Isaiah Coley (Xaiah): 919-349-9840
Jamal Person (Drop Comboz) 919-436-8213

The games that so far are getting the most entrants are KOFXIII and UMVC3 which we run side by side with KOFXIII starting first since the player based for that is mostly from out of town and followed by UMVC3 starting shortly after KOFXIII.

Like I said, we take players feedback into consideration and thats why we have made a lot of changes in the past such as the order in which run games, the time in which we run games, what games we run and so on. We are TOs and our job is not as easy as it seems and it is impossible to make everyone happy. I am (as well as the rest of the TH staff) passionate about fighting games and the fighting game scene but the fact is that players are lazy or dont care enough. David Miller pointed out that our flyers say that we start casuals at 6:00PM and that tournaments start at 8:00PM but players (here, in NY, NorCal, everywhere really) run on “street fighter” time and trying to get them to come out at the same time on the same day its close to impossible…work, school, girlfriends, TV shows, family, and coming from out of town can be things that get in the way…if everyone lived in Raleigh we could start running things at 7:00PM but sadly that is not the case…our flyer also says that these are “bring your own controller” events yet players seem to keep forgetting about that (last Wednesday night alone I had to let about 3 people borrow my stick)…by now everyone should know that we run on Xbox 360 setups but people keep making up excuses that they dont come out nor bring the controllers because they play on PS3, funny because Slayton, Havoc, DEMO, CommonSense, SieClayton either bring converters or play on modded sticks, after 42 WNB episodes (10 months) if you havent bought a converter or modded your stick then we have a problem and you are only delaying tournaments (we had this conversation before…no need to go into detail)…also our flyer says that our venue fee for casuals is $5.00 and you are more than welcome to bring your setup which if you do and we use it for tournament we will waive your venue fee yet I can name about 4 people (I wont so that I dont put them on the spot but they know who they are) that played tons of casuals and didnt pay venue fee…the very same people that wanted to run Tekken and KOF and in the end didnt even enter tourneys. So as you can see little issues which can be avoided by players doing what they are suppose to be doing would greatly help everyone. No I am not trying to justify about what happened last night with how late we started…I already apologized and I will do so once again…we are really sorry and this is about the 4th time we started late (in 10 months) and it was the latest we have ever started tournaments, a huge mistake on our part so please forgive our bad call.

We work hard to be able to get WNB going on…we have jobs, school, and family to take care of on top of just running these tournaments (you think you got it bad leaving at 11:30 then try leaving at 1:30 and be at work at 7:00 the next morning). We work closely with other TOs to get events for everyone to enjoy and we will keep on working hard to bring more tournaments to you all. We are getting more setups and working on monthlies so that more people can attend events and get their money’s worth of entertainment. With that being said we want to thank everyone that gives us feedback both positive and negative cuz eventually thats what helps us grow as tournament organizers…also thanks to YOU, the players that keep supporting us but more than anything that keep supporting the local fighting game scene that we are part of. Mistakes will happen from both TOs and players but we can resolve the issues, improve, and move on.

Really quick I want to thank Dave and everyone for the constructive criticism and also thanks to everyone that keeps helping out at WNB like William OJ White, Jon Slayton, Kevin Habel among others.

Thank you guys and see you next week.

KDP will continue to offer support for WNB in order to make it the weekly tournaments that you guys want. However that said, respect the time. If you aren’t gonna be there on time then call ahead, that goes the same for KDP events. We delayed the start of second circuit for maybe 3-5 people. We’re going to try to make it clear for all future WNB and KDP events to please just call, even if it’s only 10-15 minutes late. Call and then we will get you in the tournaments you want and when you get there just pay your fees.

Also if you want your game to be run and supported than get your communities together and make an effort to make it out. It’s not on us to make your players come out to play the games you want to play, we just run what gets entrants and support. If you support us, then we will support your game it’s that simple.

If you were there that night, just know it definitely wasn’t a usual night, although even I would admit that WNB had been getting pretty lax about it all in the past weeks as you see now it’s going to go back to what it was before where things were run efficiently and it was money match galore after the tournaments ended.

SOFA KING TO THE RESCUE!

Jon people have gotten too use to SF4. The now if this character does this then they can only do THIS after. KOF is different where same character match rounds can play out differently evertime. Roski is really good at olayimh aginst his oppent using a character, not a character that hes fighting against with a character. This too probably why he doesnt even have to practice and still beat people in SF4.

As we all kniw Lu has been sick, but even before that hus dad was and STILL came out every week to WNB. Javier has been posting ever since Final Rounf to level up and go win some majors. NC did well as a collective grouo at FR, so there shouldn’t be an issue with the state leveling up and taking over KOF.

Matt you were upset that Javier and Lu didnt come out to KDP but you dif. Now with hopes to enrage them can somehow entice (if I even spelled it right) to come out to play insted of you going to them. And I remember you saying AH3 was a great game until you lost to Rob who just happened to be better at the game than you.

Take this post however and not aiming to offend anyone, but this stuff gas gotten out of hand. Less talk more play. We coulf have arrabged a big Raleigh/Durham/Greenville session at Tals this weekend with the time wasted on here. If NC keeos acting like a joke then everyone will keep treating them as so.

SPIN ON!

And I typed that on my phone with mu BIG fingers so my engrish may look horribad. :frowning:

Does anyone know when the next KDP or RESE is?

Just picked up UMvC3 to have something else to play at WNB. I have zero 2D skills; I’m like a 4 yr old mashing buttons. Maybe Marvel wasn’t the way to go… ^,^

I had told you on fb when you asked but in case it didn’t get to you since I wasn’t on my usual comp it’s the 24th. ReSe still doesn’t have a date yet although I know there was talks to have it after H4 so they can do an event with that a lot of us were all gonna play some sort of small death match tournament thing which is pretty cool in my book since i’m definitely a fan of THE SHOOTIN GAMES.

I don’t remember Matt ever saying AH3 was a good game unfortunately. I think free homing always bothered him. Anyway…

Wow. I thought Lu was kinda…getting out more than he probably should lol. Rest up, dude. I had a cholecystectomy myself a few months ago, it wasn’t too bad but more serious than I thought it would be.

For anyone that still wants to come out, still playing on Tuesdays most of the time at my place.

I’ll start playing SF4 again so Roski won’t win lol. Also, it’s almost that time again, NC. Pick one:

Be just
Be dead

Either way, I’m ready to get down to business. (lawl)

Tons of new games added at requests of many, GGAC is on there now because it’s out on PS3 (Sony systems being what I believed to always be tournament standard for this game… although I dunno what people did when #reload was USA only on Xbox and not PS2) +R will be an A Spec game guaranteed but for now while people scrape off the rust and the few brave new souls try to get into it, then it will be a B spec game.

A side note about this is I actually know of a few people confirmed that are going to be entering it that haven’t entered tournaments for AC before but used to be #reload players. They might not be the best but new blood is still good for a game like that.

Don’t disappoint! Even with an added 100 dollar bonus we only got 5-6 entrants the in the September tournament!

SFXT added at the request of many (surprisingly)

Arcana Heart 3 added because I know it will get played, and some new bloods outside of the usual NC Arcana crew requested it, also because of the new patch coming out for it in the future.

Last chance for P4A (come on guys this game came out in August lol?)

Haven’t you got eyes in your head?

That’s exactly what we’re doing. GG came out dead on time.

show of hands, who’s goin to NEC? I’m highly interested in going.

Couldn’t sleep and had to dig deep through a lot of crap to find it, but like I’ve said before I remember what people say.

Frank the Tank, Mar 23, 2011 - “I’d play Arcana if anybody fucking played it. I think it’s by far the best fighting game on next gen systems. Just gonna have to wait for the US release I suppose.”

After losing to Rob;

Frank the Tank, Oct 10, 2011 - “AH3…is too dumbed down from the previous versions for me to really get interested in. The free homing mechanic causes matches to be really, really fucking similar regardless of the characters played. If you never got into the previous games, then give it a go, but speaking as a top level (as in I placed in majors and beat top players in money matches, and was considered to be the best player of my character in the country) AHF player, this game puts me to sleep.”

Frank the Tank, Oct 12, 2011 - "The only thing AH3 makes me want to do is play something else, and BB has lit that fire in me as of late. Kira and Catherine’s big hitboxes allow Scharl to do whatever she wants to them offensively. Defensively it’s more generic, but being so big makes it hard as fuck to deal with.

Brent: Homing doesn’t have to be free to escape things like excaliburs. You could do the same thing in AHF to people who blew all their homing, which is something I truly miss about the game; you had to use homing intelligently, or you got fucked up for losing it. Before people talk about how “It’s a different game now” or whatever, I’m fully aware. It’s just a game that I don’t enjoy, and quite a few OG Arcana players also feel that way.

EDIT: There is one character I’m genuinely interested in, and if I ever put time into her I might make a return. I don’t know when or if that’s going to happen, but we’ll see."

I’ve got nothing against Matt, but when people question what I say I have no choice but to back it up.

We imported Reload, Slash, and Accent Core. Hell, Blake imported XX.

Jon I guess I’m a KOF Hipster now too! LMFAO! #Hipster

Pretty hardcore but that’s why people here were actually pretty awesome at GG, that dedication. I’m surprised someone imported XX. I didn’t think the community considered X to be that great of a game so it’s hard to believe from there anyone would have trusted that XX would be as good as it was. Although I thought X was fine, when I heard Japan considered it a shitty game I was like oh wow.

I asked my dad to buy a Japanese PS2 for me just so I could import XX. And honestly, nobody really knew or thought that Japan consider X to be kusoge. I think I mostly just chalked up any criticism for the game at that time to be bias from Capcom loyalists, or something like that. GG was my favorite game, and X was one of the best looking 2D fighters at the time. Looking back, yes, it was very broken, but at the time it was awesome. I imported XX out of love for the series.

When I hear GGX I think two words…Millia Rage.

Just gonna slide this in here.

Making the move to weekly but venue has something going on the 12th. But yeah. We are making the move to weekly.
