NC Thread LXVII (67) - RIP MaximumBurst

NC can definitely take this. just because we’re mostly unknown doesn’t mean we’re mostly unskilled. They got a big surprise coming for them.

Me, Lu, Roski, Javier, Darrell, KoF Avengers assemble! We need to get on this shit and body these guys.

Also Robin really wanted to stir the pot lol. He came into a private group and reposted it in his KoF group to get everyone rattled. I like it though. This is exactly what we needed to get people motivated.

Honestly it’s free money. IF i have the time i’m down.

IT’S A TRAP.

They say RyRy is really good. I watched his videos and wasn’t that impressed, but lets not underestimate him either. I know he’s strong in other games.

They say they’re all going to summer jam and I’m planning to go to that. Think you can make it to that?

Coming back to Fayetteville this weekend any games going on? Also this thread seems dead as hell. Made in April, it’s July now and still doesn’t have 1K posts.

^my thoughts exactly

Yeah, where’d all the NC thread SRK posters go?

Facebook

for anyone in the wilmington area looking for something to do saturday https://www.facebook.com/events/375136925885362/ super turbo tournament

I went to “stopped caring about fighting games” land.

Facebook is getting the new guys’ attention. Much of the greensboro scene remained unknown for a good while because they refused to come our SRK thread because is was so crazy. Remember how ridiculous the NC thread was last year when we would go through 1000 posts in 2 weeks? In comes facebook. We’re not getting those guys back.

Plus some of the old heads have moved on and don’t post anymore other than once a month to say hi. The only reason some guys are even posting here now is because of KOF hype. Other than that you’ll notice that familiar faces are posting less and less. The Dustloop thread is just an emaciated shell of what it use to be and the great SRK NC thread which, I feel, was one of the most active local scene threads (due to post count and frequency) last year appears to be on its way to this same fate. [/old man sentimentality]

Fortunately this thread is still strong Lets try to make it last. I say this cause I’m in Georgia. If you don’t know I FINALLY made a facebook about 3 weeks ago because that’s the only way to stay in contact with the scene.

Got my hands dirty with KOF last week. Twas fun. This week I got the chance to play some VF5:FS. Anyone who says the game is “too slow” obviously doesn’t know the basics of the game. I can’t think of a fighting game more complex than it. If it was any faster half of it you wouldn’t have time to react to and the other half would be too fast for you to input in time. I’ve still got a lot more to go through, but I will say the defense and offense setup in the game is great. Gotta study up some more.

I also got to play some DOA5 last week, a franchise that I only cared to button mash in and nothing more. After playing some with Dayasha and Jamal I decided to learn as much as I could about it. Sat down for about 3+ hours playing versus against the CPU practicing different things. I know some things are subject to change in the final version, so for the most part I just wanted to get a basics down of the game engine. Plus some of the times where it seemed like you should be able to punish and couldn’t got a little frustrating, but I had to keep in mind it was just a demo. But if its like that in the final version then I can worry about punishing correctly then.

Wanna grind hard starting in August, but for now I’ll just focus on what I can do. SPIN ON.

Of course I remember the Regional threads from 1-2 years ago. I actually didn’t post in them too much back then because frankly Boone had no scene when I first picked up fighting games, and I felt like I could only post about Boone meetups every so often to try and catch the attention of anybody who might have been heading up this way, especially since I didn’t know who anyone was. I mostly still don’t know most of you guys, but it’s a little less overwhelming now. At the same time, I had grown to like the previous pace.

Don’t get me started on the Dustloop thread. Ugh.

Magic: the Gathering

That and I haven’t been in a fighting game tournament since March.

the dustloop thread will blow up once persona comes out most likely

NC players are still pretty active on facebook. It’s just easier to keep up with stuff there because while managing your personal stuff, you also get updated on whats going on in the FGC.

Another problem is a lot of people have moved / retired / whatever. There’s still a lot of players, they’re all just in TH / RESE / TNT communities, which all have facebook pages for communication. Old heads seemed to have been swallowed up by the great white whale that is real life and don’t have time to post on SRK all the time. Plus no one seems to really want to talk about much here.

With that said, who else is hype for Persona?

I’m getting persona- it sounds like an Arc game that doesn’t have the things I dislike about Arc games.

On VF, get better at the game and it slows down, but you still got to make reads/guesses quickly, and some things are designed so you have to guess instead of react.

And yeah, if it wasn’t for FGC stuff, I wouldn’t have a failbook myself. Don’t like being a product.

I’m pretty hype for Persona - I think it has the prospect of being the largest new-school fighting game (other than Marvel) to date. As with every other new non Capcom fighting game, it’s been hard to convince people up here to pick it up, but there’s actual interest for once.

I too am HYPE for Persona. I always liked BB and wanted to try it out but the learning curve is just so high in that game in comparison to how little time I have to practice. That being said, Persona is a fresh start for everyone so I can at least be able to keep up with people, granted I will probably only be “B” tier in it with the limited amount of time to practice with TTT2 coming out and me still playing SF4.

To be honest I am just happy that Tekken is making a comeback and it seems that the games are starting to get better with this “new” season of games.

Also hoping that July 31st proves to be the revival of SFxT. I wanted to like that game so much but you know…

persona 4 is gonna bode well with the melty folk
