NC Thread LXVII (67) - RIP MaximumBurst

Me Brent and Jimmy are going.

Can I get in on that carpool?

We should have space I’ll have Jimmy/Brent call you when we get the Raleigh (should be around 10am)

Yeah, me too bro. I can believe wrote this right here either.

There’s nothing wrong with the guard system in GG. Given the huge number of offensive options in that game, the defensive systems are incredibly fair and well balanced. And what’s this about fuzzy guard? Fuzzy guard in GG is just like fuzzy in a 3D game, you can guard certain high/low mixups without having to confirm which option is coming by simply guarding the faster option first. Easiest example is May 5D versus 5[D], stand guard then crouch guard will beat this mixup. Other examples are versus certain command overheads like Testament’s 6P versus his low 2K, simply guard low first at the mixup point and then switch to high.

What most American players refer to as “fuzzy guard” in GG refers to a very specific offensive situation off of a jump-canceled jumping normal. Basically, there is a very small window while the other player is switching from high to low guard where their sprite is still considered standing and can thus be hit by certain normals. So let’s say I’m playing Order-Sol and I make you block a j.S, if I jump cancel and do a j.HS very quickly and the other player switches to low guard, they will still get hit by the j.HS because their sprite is considered standing, but they are no longer guarding high. What this amounts to is an “unseeable” high low mixup, but it is not something super common or overpowering that has a significant effect on the gameplay.

I know some of our players had told me before they had difficulty in switching their guard from high to low and vice versa on reaction to certain mixups, I find usually that if I switch from low to high to guard a Dust and I’m doing it too quickly, I may accidentally shift to up-back. What happens here is that you are getting hit out of the jump startup, which is why it looks like you got hit standing and didn’t block the mixup properly. It has nothing to do with the game engine not recognizing your guard fast enough, it’s user error.

EDIT: Just now realized I said up-forward instead of up-back, my bad.

Damn Jon you really ran with my L joke! Shirts next! Lmao!

So i was making my character jump the whole time when i thought i was moving the stick to back? Hmm…that clears up a lot. Thanks. Can never go wrong listening to Blake/White for GG info.

Tekken is a different thing as there exists mids that comes out as fast as lows and can not be speed guarded against which forces you to commit to low or standing guard during the attack string. I play one of those characters that makes you do that so it is not a universal tactic, but it works where it is applicable.

Tekken generally follows the same rule as most 3D games where the fastest lows are either very low damage, or have huge risk attached to them. It’s rare to find a fast low in Tekken that does good damage and is also difficult to punish, IIRC. This is probably one of the reasons they made Feng Wei SS+4 into a stagger on block in T5DR, because he got way too much damage off of it and it was difficult to see. While there are definitely characters who can run high low 50/50 in Tekken, if you are going to block something in a 3D game, always start standing is a safe rule. High level defense in Tekken is more about good spacing/positioning and knowing how to avoid moves so you can punish the whiff.

So…just curious on everyones stance towards Persona 4 Arena. Personally I think it looks pretty cool and started to study up on it. Anyone else interested in the game and plan to play it?

SS+4 was pretty broken. LOL. This information is appoved by me.

Speaking of Tekken…

Thank you all who helped with commentary and see you guys next week!

Won KoF at RESE, beat MastaCJ, also reset the brackets on him in GFs of SGs. Havok bodied me pretty hard in Marvel, guess I’m no longer the best in the state. Gonna be rethinking my game a bit, I’m not playing Marvel right.

Re P4U: I’m planning on going pretty hard on that game. I’m excited for that game, looks like a pretty honest, grown man game.

Good job jon!

When I saw Havok beat you, it was because you got hit by bionic arm.

Anything going on the Charlotte/Raleigh-Durham on Mon or Tue? I know about the gatherings on Wed, but I ironically have to work this Wednesday. I kinda want to play some Marvel/Tekken/Soul Calibur with anyone whos willing to host. Only thing is I need to really know whats up (ie: phone numbers addresses) for sure since driving 1.5-2 hours for nothing isnt really my steez. I was trying to explain to the greensboro facebook group that I always say I’m coming but never end up getting to play because my job at the time didnt give me much in terms of flexibility (the life of a restaurant chef I swear) on top of me not having any contact info. Like I cant get on the highway towards somewhere communicating to someone through facebook. But I got called a troll how lame.

Does anyone have any information regarding the KOF tournament in VA? I know they said it would be a week before EVO and that it’ll probably be on a Sunday. As for exact confirmation on date, time, and venue I’ve got nothing else. Its suppose to be happening, if still a go, in less than a week. Somebody has to have information on this.

Was it only because I got hit by Bionic arm? He beat me 3-0 I think and I don’t remember it just being bionic arm 3 times in a row. I think Spencer is just a bad matchup against Jon… I lose to like every competent spencer player.

Sup fellas, im from FL but im going to be in NC for a while and i just wanna know when and where u guys meet up to play some kof around here.

AN EPIC TOMORROW! TNT X WNB! BFP MINDGAMES X TIERLESS HEROES!
