NC Thread LIV: No name for this one

Hey man, if you want to make the trip you’re more than welcome at my place. I’m going to start hosting next weekend in Cary probably, if that’s not too far of a drive.

As far as who to blow up, we haven’t had a chance to establish a player tier list but I can tell you who I see winning most and putting time in the game right now… watch out for:

Corner Trap
Matt
Blake
Roski
Me
Jimmy
James

I might be missing a few but off the top of my head, that’s who I’d say to fight. LETS GET COMPETITIVE UP IN THIS BITCH!

Word? I’d like to come see where I lie on my own self-esteem list. PM the details?

We have been playing it. Just last Friday Me, Brandino, Alice Chan, Brent, and a few others were all playing at NC State. Even had matches recorded and all…

OMG, Fayetteville competition? I might just cry sniff. Only other players around here that I know of are Tom who you already mentioned although I haven’t seen him in a long time and Raf who I only really see at tournaments. For the most part I have to bum rides off of all the other NC players to make it to tournaments and sessions. I play MvC3 and SSF4 but there really isn’t a “spot” to play at here, thus why I have to travel for sessions. I only really go to the food court in Cross Creek Mall so I never heard of Kinetech. Is it a nice venue? If it is then I’m down with holding sessions over there. What days are you available?

I’ve been playing Arcana Heart 3… in my pants.

Yeah. It’s EXACTLY what you’re thinkin’. :smokin:

If that doesn’t work well

Personally thinking of just grouping the casuals stuff by game and then have separate playlists by tournament, and very excited for the next Luckys/Gamefrog tournament to get actual tournament footage up there. I’m actually getting a PS3 around the time AH3 comes out for it on US release and I hope that the release atleast revitalizes interest since I believe the quoted price for it is 29.99.

Nope. =x

Don’t forget about OJ (BlazianSolja), he did well at Lucky’s and I think did pretty well at FR in both Super and Marvel

edit: Also, i think demo had a good streak going at the hotel, and i was pretty impressed with (I think it’s him) BZB or whoever was playing wesker/ammy/somebody.

Reposting for everyone asking who’s good in NC of course this just covers those who went to FR.

I don’t think results from FR really shows much. Some of us had harder brackets and we’ve all leveled up since then.

But yeah, OJ too. Haven’t played him much since week 1.

I don’t care who is better than who, next lucky’s I just want to see 2 things:

  1. Someone get blown the fuck up
  2. And they get mad as fuck about it.

You’ll most definitely see that, probably several times.

And yeah, tournament results aren’t great indicators. I got 17th at NEC and didn’t even break top 100 at FR for Super.

Makes sense, I forgot who someone was just asking who are really good people in NC so I just figured it might be an ok reference. Never been to a major so i’m sure brackets aren’t run even close to the same as they are at Lucky’s.

When is the next lucky’s anyway?

I think this is the first time I’ve seen this on this thread…most of the time it’s people posting that tournament results are the ONLY indicators.

I know I’ve said it before, probably a while ago though. Tournament results only mean something for people that consistently place in the same high spots (i.e. top 3-8), everything else is a jumbled mess. At majors, DQs, byes, people just throwing money in and literally not playing the game at all are rampant. One of Sam’s matches in AH3 was against a guy that had never played the game and picked random. Some of us have advanced three slots in a bracket because our matches didn’t show up.

The only current example I can think of where you could look at results and actually say x person is good at x game would be Matt in Guilty Gear. Accurate assessments of “who’s good” take a lot of playing, a whole lot more than a handful of sets with randomized people. You’d need a giant round robin, SPREADSHEETS, possibly ranbats, at least on a local level.

Cary isn’t too bad a drive for me, so I’m appreciative for the invite. Familiar names in that list. Yes, competition is whats needed, from what I read in the forums. We’re all friends in the end, but doesn’t hurt to just play and take some names. But nooooo putting names on a spreadsheet!!! I keed! Spreadsheet…think Matt loved the Spreadsheet.

Corner Trap…your real name is William right? Where in Fayetteville do you live? Kinetech is a new place outside of Macy’s Wing across from Office Depot. I went there to check if its a tourney worthy place…The owner was not there last weekend, its little cozy setup kind of like gamefrog. I’m usually too busy, but I’m saddened that no one is stepping up to run a tournaments locally in Fayetteville, I would have loved to run one with FFF but everything has gone to console pretty much and upkeep of cabinets were not up to standard. So I wanted to talk to the owner and see what his feedback is, maybe it would work out, maybe not. We might go there this weekend, since they are offering a free day pass(12hrs). Their weekend hours kinda wacky they open Friday 11AM and close Sunday 10PM. So if you want to play, maybe we can meet there. Your name is on Jon’s list so you’re on our scope!:badboy:

So just for a general census of traveling gamers. who wouldn’t mind attending a tourney in Fayetteville. Nothing in stone yet, as I’m not sure how the owner is, but would be nice to tell him how many would come versus their last MvC3 tournament that had a head count of 7 people as I was told.

You’re only as good as your last game!

  1. Ow no, not spreadsheets! Whatever happened to Edmondantes (I think that was his name)?
  2. Yes my real name is William and I live off of Cliffdale closer to the Raeford side.
  3. I’m not sure how much other players would want to travel to Fayetteville considering our small scene but we are at a reasonable traveling distance from all the other major cities in NC. If people show interest I would love to throw a session as long as the venue is good.

Just means you ain’t consistent nigga! >_<

If anybody in wilmington wants to go to an mvc3 tourney in wilmington, then they are having one at memory lane comics down by jungle rapids on April 9. 5 dollar entry fee iirc

@CornerTrap: From wilmington fayetteville isn’t too far of a drive. people could make it.

I think as far as Brent’s playstyle, his placing has a lot to do with who he fights. Some people have trouble with being fundamentaled out, so if he fights those people, they get raped. At the same time if he fights training mode stupid rushdown guy, he seems to kinda flounder. Same for me in that if I fight someone who plays a charge character and can poke really well, I’m damn well gonna lose in super.

So really it’s consistency that’s key but placing does show you can be pretty decent under the right circumstances. The only person in the state I can say is 100% consistent under tough conditions in every game is Roski.
