NC Thread LIV: No name for this one

I feel like xfactor DEFINITELY adds a good dimension to the game. However it sucks that the best strategy is to save it for level 3. Level 3 should be toned down for sure. I agree with the tiered times and a tiered damage increase (maybe not so significant of a difference) but I don’t think I agree with the speed boost.

It should be a move that when used strategically at different points throughout the match its a boost not a bail out tactic.

Come back factor sure, but if I rape someone, have all 3 of my characters left, and the opponent xfactor, I shouldn’t be scared to lose the match in 10 seconds. That’s crazy.

I don’t like the damage increase personally, there’s been too many times I was winning a match and then suddenly losing the match because of how fast the other character is and how much damage they’re suddenly doing. It’s bad enough they have all that but also new options open up for them because they’re so fast, a lot of their stuff is giving them advantage when it didn’t before. So then when you get level 3 x factored after out playing the other guy the whole match, now you’re down to your last character having to defend coming in against a character moving stupidly fast. It’s a dumb turn around situation IMO that can hurt you for outplaying someone the entire round.

Also being able to do it out of blockstun is dumb. I think I killed people at the gathering with level 3 x factor Doom level 3 super out of block stun like 10 times last night. You just can’t attack them without risk of your character just fucking dying randomly.

If they were to balance it, I’d like to see it still stop chip, still function as a roman cancel, and give a SLIGHT speed boost and damage boost. I wouldn’t want to see any sort of boost for having less characters. You should not be rewarded for losing IMO. I’d even go as far to say it should just serve as a burst if you use it during a combo, but not give you the boost if you use it that way. That way teams focused on only 1 character could get more longevity out of that character if they wanted, at the expense of comeback utility.

Scrubs rejoice Sentinel now has 900K health. All your bitching has finally done something. Seriously though, that has to be one of the biggest knee jerk reactions I have ever seen. Game has only been out for a month and we’re already getting patches with drastic changes. If Capcom is gonna go down the path of releasing patches with drastic changes with no warning or beta testing then this games future doesn’t bold well. Personally I’m still gonna play Sentinel and hope that this patch will make people bitch less about him.

As for the XF discussion I would just remove the speed boost and tone down the damage boost.

Not to over post since I’ve been spamming today but I think the thing with Sent was that he was actually pulling people away from the game. I’ve got multiple people at work that won’t even give the game more of a shot after fighting Sentinel players. It’s a quick reaction but I guess it was getting kind of ridiculous with Sent on every god damn team.

I’m not upset about what they changed in the patch, I’m upset that the patch was released with no warning or public beta testing. If Capcom is going to continue releasing patches in this manner then I’m just gonna drop the game. Why put time and effort into a character when it can randomly get nerfed to shit because scrubs love to bitch online. It angers me that the vocal minority is whats most visible to developers when they’re the least justified to speak on competitive play.

I never thought of this but if they really do continue changing characters and maybe even changing the fundamentals of a character who’s gonna give a shit enough to learn the game anymore if everyone they pick up changes into something different. Of course I don’t know enough about MVC3 to have any personal suggestions on what needs to be fixed besides from what I hear which is xfactor level 3.

Now while I agree with your main point, let me ask you (and the rest of you) this:

Did you have any real intention of playing Sentinel outside of him being the beast he was found to be? And given this change do any of you intend to keep playing him?

It just seems like people are bitching about others bitching. And now their “win” button just got a little harder to press.

So it took you until NOW to notice this?

I’ve got some more bad “news” for you dude. We are the minority. The super-scrubs, whiners, bitchers, and online monsters outnumber the hardcore competitive players by at least 5000 to 1.

I’m gonna continue playing Sentinel because he’s my legit favorite character. Like I said before I’m not upset about what’s in the patch, I’m upset about it being released with no warning, patch notes, public beta testing, etc.

True enough.

Working as Intended.

PATCH DAY!

What would public beta testing be? Would that be different than what they just did today? Aside from in-house testing, how are they gonna get it to the public at this point besides a random patch that can be undone just as easily as it was done? They’re not gonna send Seth Killian to major events with a build that’s exactly the same as the retail build minus a few patches and about 400k on Sentinel, that’s for sure.

I understand why you mad- and you have reason to be.

That said, Capcom has no way to publicly beta test realistically. That would require a series of patches, which might break the game, requiring a separate install for people, which would confuse the hell out of consolites. On top of that, you only get 2 free patches on a console, so this would cost Capcom mad money with 500k downloads per time.

It’s not so much a matter of appeasing the casuals (though I think that plays a small role) as it is not being able to afford proper testing on console games.

I won’t be surprised if MK has some fairly radical patching as well, and there will be pressure to patch shit before EVO for MK, and with the approval process for patches, they’ll probably only have 3-4 weeks to work on it.

I don’t know how things work on console but I also play SC2 on the PC. The way they handle patches is that a month before a patch is released they make an announcement revealing the date and patch notes detailing all the changes. Then they open up a public beta for testing to get player feedback. I’m not sure how feasible doing something like that on consoles would be, but I’m fairly certain that they could have at least announced it first.

Warning woulda been good… Beta testing makes no sense.

Patch is gay. Sentinel has less Health than Viewtiful Joe now. Lol.

If you want to hate on people for not playing games like fanboys, then take that shit to gamefaqs where it belongs.

I didn’t have any intention of playing ANYBODY. I wanted to see how characters played, and go from there. Sent isn’t NEARLY good enough to nerf this hard. He’s the largest character in the game, and his hitbox makes it so goddamn easy to 50/50 him for no effort. He needs high health to compensate for that, as he gets hit more often and more easily than any other character. 905,000 makes him have less health than Joe/Morrigan/Wolverine. 1,200,000 health? Fine, makes sense. 1,150,000? Sure, I’m all for it. NINE HUNDRED GODDAMN FIVE THOUSAND? Are you on crack? This 25% health nerf to a character with no mixup AT ALL outside of the corner command grab, and the easiest character EVER to mix up successfully, makes him pretty much unplayable now. That’s the one thing that a balance patch should never do.

This was a nerf completely catered to scrubs, and judging by the reactions I’ve seen, it hit the mark exactly where it wanted to.

Well the thing with Starcraft and WoW and the like for PC is that they don’t have to go through Sony or Microsoft and battle red tape and pay huge amounts of fees to get their shit approved. Working in the game industry, I’ve seen how patching goes. That shit is not just like “oh hey this is broke or needs rebalancing, lets fix it”. It takes planning and a long approval process to make sure it meets certain standards, costs a lot of money to submit for certification, and generally is a lot of trouble. With PC you can just tinker with this and that and not have to worry too much but a lot goes into it with consoles.

With that said, they’ve had this patch planned for months, so they obviously knew they were going to change sentinel and these bugs before the game was even out I believe. It’s probably something that got pushed aside during the later stages of development because they either thought the public wouldn’t find it or it wouldn’t be a big deal. That’s generally how they make these decisions.

This is El Garbage!!! Which is exactly what Sentinel is pretty much good for right now. Just scrubbed out 3 Sentinels online with a Wolverine I haven’t played with in about a month LOL One of them I killed in the first 5 seconds of the match. What I really don’t understand is why you make the biggest character in the game have pixie-ish health? If you’re gonna do that to him could they at least give him his fast fly back or up his speed somewhat? If he’s gonna get punished like a pixie then at least let him move like a pixie.

Everyone let’s give a moment of silence…

Guess who has the highest health now??? Dost thou have tickets to yon gun show?
