NC Thread LIV: No name for this one

I didn’t even know Angus was going.

Sam: sure, I’m cool with that…but I’d ask for games to be off while the drivers are trying to sleep (if it bothers them). Can you bring Marvel/Super/AH?

The only problem with ducking Haggar lariat on point or as assist is when you can crouch under it, but if you hit cr.A/B/C then you get hit. Cause then you’d have to stand up into it and eat the block or risk getting command grabbed by either the point character while Haggar is an assist, or by Haggar on point being a dick and cancelling a ducked-under lariat into his level 3 grab. But as it stands, getting hit by lariat assist = free combo. Ducking lariat assist to avoid it = free command grab. Being next to Haggar assist and a point character who can grab creates a shitty situation for some characters. But if your cr.A/B/C doesn’t get hit by it, then the point character would have to pushblock you off to protect Haggar from getting hit.

I like Doom Plasma Beam assist, because those small characters that can just duck under plasma beam (Amy/Morrigan/etc.) and not have to block it are usually free to command grabs when they’re doing it. Having assists in a game with viable commands grabs is very fun. I’m seeing opoortunities to make people stop and think… and FORCE themselves to get hit by something from an assist to stop the point character from grabbing them. And “block” is so deeprooted in some people that these command grab set-ups are working like 99% of the time I go for them.

No, it won’t. This weekend will prove what’s best RIGHT NOW. Which could also mean “What people haven’t figured out how to fight yet.” If this game is worth anything, we won’t know what’s best for a long time.

Anybody know the formats the team tournaments are following? Between Melty/Arcana one is Waseda and one isn’t, can’t remember…and I haven’t heard much about Super teams either.

If anybody is still playing Melty and wants to be on a team with me, that’d be great. Roski maybe? It should be on Friday and I don’t think most of you will be busy doing anything else (Friday games are BB, ST, HDR, Arcana, unofficial stuff and teams).

Don’t have super, but i can bring marvel and arcana yes.

Well, Super isn’t a game I’m really looking to sharpen up on personally, we could get some tight Marvel/Arcana casuals though.

This is both untrue and it would not be an improvement if it was.

What’s untrue about it? Elaborate plz.

I’d like an elaboration as well.

Yeah that’s what I meant. “Best” is definitely always changing in early stages of games like this.

I just wanna see what kind of bullshit option select stuff people have come up with. I know people have probably been keeping stuff in their pocket for this.

Watching matches though, a lot of good players seems to be playing pretty bad right now so I feel pretty good about doing decent in Marvel, hopefully.

I forget who wanted my Doom corner combo, three or four people asked me to PM it. I know it’s a little bit late considering FR is tomorrow, but here it is anyway:

[2A 2B 2C S] or [j.B(2) 2A S] -> j.6C j.S ADD -> 5C S -> j.B j.6C j.S ADD -> 5C S -> j.B j.6C j.S ADD -> 5C(2) S -> j.B(2) j.B(2) j.6C j.S -> [5C(2) 236AA] or [A1 5C(2) 623AA]

ADD = Airdash down
-> = Changing between Doom being grounded or airborne
A1 = Some assist that lets Doom combo OTG 5C with a super
All moves are only 1 hit of the move unless otherwise notated by a (#)

I dunno how most people list notations cause I don’t read the character forums because the people, who post about the characters I play, are stupid. You don’t NEED to do the ADD after j.S but it makes the OTG 5C so damn easy compared to doing it without it. You can probably get more damage of off the last airborne part if you use the airdash to get more damage instead, but I went for consistency. If you just end it in 5C, this does more damage than the one in the guide listed for Dooms corner combo that works the same way. It does like 850k+ if you end it with assist 5C sphere flame, and it does like 1.05 million or something like that if you end it with 5C level 3 super.

You can also dash cancel either the last or next to last OTG 5C with an upforward jump to try for an airthrow reset that works if they tech forward, backwards or not at all. I’ve been recently screwing up the “not at all” tech so I may have to look into it to be sure it’s possible, but I know for 100% fact that it beats forwards and backwards very easily. If you hit that you can follow up with j.B(2) ADD 2B 2C S and then get a few more reps of the j.B j.6C j.S ADD -> 5C S, but not as many cause of hitstun scaling after a throw/airthrow or whatever. Or if you think they’ll tech your airthrow after they tech, you can probably just do an immediate j.B into ADD whatever again but I haven’t tested that cause I dunno how invincibility works after air recovery exactly, so they may be able to throw you out of a meaty air move? I don’t know yet, haven’t done the testing.

Fucking Blake not going…

Brent, can you PM me your address? I think we’re dumping the cars there. What time are you guys planning on leaving? Maybe we could all meet up at your place and then follow each other since we’re friends.

I found a nice 2-bar no-XF that kills all but like 6 characters with the option to add Xfactor (lv1 probably) or 2 more bars to kill everyone.

I have a special surprise to show everyone at Final Round. Please let me know.

Actually rereading that post he did say “ALMOST no invincible AA assists” so I guess Haggar Lariat and Tron Flamethrower being the only two invincible assists out 108 qualifies as “almost none”.

I don’t think it’s an improvement because assists like CapCom and Cyclops kept people from playing brainlessly and helped against trap teams.

Show them that “HardBody” son. Good luck to all going to FR! Matt you better win any old school tournaments they have!

Good luck to everyone going to FR. I wish I could go. Then again, I wish I could go to a damn gathering…

Wait is Trons actually invincible?

According to the guide Tron assist isn’t invincible. It just comes out at a really good location and the hitbox on the flame is huge and durable as fuck.

I like the lack of said assist types because those assists made characters useless simply by existing. If you didn’t have some sort of aerial movement option to change your position, you couldn’t deal with Commando+cover at all.

I messed with Spencer in training mode a little while back. If you ever decide to use Spencer, he can punish a blocked S from Sent. Bionic Lancer (QCB+PP) is one of the fastest supers in the game.

He can also punish a blocked Hyper Sentinel Force. After blocking the first two waves of drones, rip a bionic lancer. It will blow through the last wave of drones and hit Sent before he can recover.

And like most of the cast, he has an instant overhead series on Sent. (j.M, j.H, j.S) 3 hit combo, when you land, you can continue the combo into a chain, into whatever.

Con: Xfactor can save Save Sent from having his blocked S punished by Spencer.
***Pro: *** Only one Xfactor per game. So it forces the opponent to use his Xfactor possibly earlier than the ideal “last man standing” position if he wants to spare damage to Sent. (Big damage if you have meter for DHC’s available)

Jive Out!

Most characters can’t punish Sent after a blocked S, but he’s still at -8, and has no invincible startup moves when he’s on the ground. This means that if you block a S from Sent (and DONT PUSHBLOCK IT) you get to start your offense pretty safely. This means low/overhead mixups.

Well they can still call assist so watch out for Haggar / Tron / Chun or whatever if they’re smart.
