Rewatching the stream. I elect myself and Matt Frank as 3S color commentary. That’s a good team right thurr. We can be “Knuckletank”
That was me, and if you were actually paying attention to my comment about DP FADC, then you would know I said it only applied to grapplers. If I recall, it was T. Hawk v. Sagat where that happened and I pointed it out. I most likely know more about the game than you do, but I will not argue that over the internet since I cannot prove that. I don’t remember saying anything about James (I assume Pac-Strife?) picking Ken, but if I did I was probably bullshitting. And I do think Adon wins against Ken. Ken doesn’t have very good options against Jaguar pressure unless you commit to an EX/Strong DP (which the strong dp can miss the second hit). I’m not some “random 3rd person” I placed 4th so I obviously can play the game. And I was talking to Raf when he lost to Pac-Strife’s Ken with Sagat. He obviously didn’t recognize that Strife was messing up the ambiguous jump fierce and that it would be easier to recognize it with a smaller character.
But if you think I don’t know what I’m talking about, then you commentate and throw some insight into the match
ALSO!
I REALLY NEED A ROOMIE, I’M BEING KICKED OUT AND NEED A PLACE TO STAY (preferably close to where I stay since I no longer have access to a vehicle). I can help with rent and stuff, and I play fighting games too.
4th, as Will stated before, just makes you the best person that day who still didn’t get paid.
If you read the post I quoted, you’d see that I was referring to you saying its a free grab all the time. It’s not. It has to be Ultra specifically. SPD wouldn’t work. It may against certain DPs. They are all at least -1 though.
Free is Phoenix/Haggar. Free is Vanilla Seth/Gief. Free is 8-2. Adon/Ken is not even 7-3. I don’t know much about the match, but i know enough to know its not free, and at worst 6-4 either way.
I wasn’t on the Mic commentating because I don’t stream commentate. The fact that I don’t get on the stream and say accurate information does not give YOU a free pass to get on the stream and say mad random shit. Your “well you do it then” comment is moot. My skill on the mic, good or bad, does not change you being wrong and needing to stay off the mic any more or less than you were.
You may or may not know more than me in SF. I know your play didn’t really show it. But hey, my play doesn’t really show what I know either. I understand far more than I cam apply, and maybe you’re in the same boat.
Also, you are a random guy to me if I don’t know your name and just hear you talking on stream. And knowing its YOU is kinda funny.
Sorry for constant carriage returns and Fucked up auto correct words, on phone. Work blocked SRK again, it was working this morning.
EDIT: lol this whole post is not directed towards you smurvis, you just got me thinking about the topic.
I’ll take your $10 on Sofa.
When it comes to smash, to look down on the restriction of items and stages is either pure ignorance to the game or just plain bandwagon hate. Items that can significantly determine the outcome of a match are dropped at random times, next to random players. You cannot play a competitive game with these random elements. And when it comes to stages, competitive games are played on stages that don’t insert a random element to gameplay or intervene with player skill to much. When you have maps that attack the person that is currently winning to make things more “fair” , you really can’t get by without banning certain maps.
Now for shooters, a different genre and you really can’t compare the two. For one, we are taking a game designed for team play and playing it out in a 1 v 1 scenario. This alone warrants rules to be added. There is no arguments or disagreements among competitive players on a competitive rule set, we can pop a new shooter in and determine what the competitive rules will be day one instantly, and all agree without any discussion on the matter. It’s that black and white.
The genre of shooting games is so wildly popular in part due to many parts of the game allowing “no skill kills”. Trust me if AE was exactly how it was, but every character had a move that did 100% damage that was a 2 frame low A that reached half screen - AE would still be played with that move banned (yes the equivalent does exist in shooters).
ESPECIALLY if the game was designed to allow that move to be turned off, which is the case with almost every option in shooters. The games are shipped for casuals to be able to get easy no skill kills which when abused by pros destroys the game to a mush of boring stupidity, with the option of turning these things off for more competitive games.
Example: In a call of duty public match you can set a claymore near a choke point and if anyone walks by it, they die. Dying from no human interaction is considered random and no skill is involved, you can imagine what happens when a team of good players strategically place claymore mines all around certain parts of the map (and can refill their supply of claymores by killing someone). Claymores are banned from competitive play.
Basically, there is no reason to look down on the enforcing of extra rules when the game warrants it. The same has been done in street fighter before.
EDIT: I really can’t stand the mentality of accepting everything the game designers place in a game, and using all of it for competitive play. Gaming firms first and #1 priority will always be to make money. This priority does not always match up with the priority of making a balanced game that can be played in a competitive setting. It doesn’t take us that play shooters years to figure out if something is broken and put in the game just to increase sales and the “fun factor” for casual players.
If they put something like X Factor in a shooter we’d ban it day 1 and the community and life of the game would all benefit from that decision. I don’t know one competitive player that doesn’t think MvC3 wouldn’t be better without X Factor. Really if the game came with an option to turn it on/off and it was off by default, no one would ever turn it on in competitive play. But because by default it’s there it must be used? Even though it devolves gameplay and makes the game even stupider then it already is?
We would all enjoy the game much more in a competitive setting if X Factor was banned, but for some reason no one wants it banned. “The capcom gaming gods said it must be so , so it must be so !”. I personally am new to fighters and come from shooters, but I am willing to bet many of you that post in this thread know what’s best for a competitive fighter better then the suits at capcom making decisions to increase profits. Yet you bow down to their decision making? I know the mindset will never change, but I don’t agree with it at all.
I know I didn’t belong on stream commentating. Will just handed me the mic and was like “talk on the stream. I gotta go play my match”. -_-
Where do you stay at now?
somebody link me to the stream archive. i really want to get better at this.
I don’t know if I was one of the commentators you had issues with, but I’ll make sure that the commentators during the next stream will be able to give more accurate analysis for the players. Between me doing my matches, resolving technical issues, etc. I wasn’t able to micro manage every commentator that was on stream.
@ Knuckle: If you or Matt plan on attending ReSe, I’d like for you guys to commentate 3S again.
@ NC: If there are any other suggestions you guys have to make the streaming experience better, please let me know. I do this for you guys and want to improve wherever possible. Whether you think the stream is completely ass or great, I’d like to know
@ Demo: I’ll be archiving the vids later tonight on the SC Tourney youtube page, but for now: link
Nah Jag you were fine if you’re who I think you were. You had a Mic most of the time, it wad the backseat drivers mostly. Drunken priest commentary (LOW KICK LOW KICK THROW UPPERCUT) is better than inaccuracy.
The gears comment was a random hate at smash. Any chance to hate on smash is fun.
Games. I like playing them. What’s going down in Raleigh this week? Gonna focus on AE i think. Only one month til UMvC and I’m rusty.
I haven’t decided yet. I’m going to take a look at it. Maxima/Ash/Mai to start I think. I’ll probably tierwhore at some point though. I can see where you say I may not like it, given that I prefer 98 to 02, but I can’t see myself thinking the game is worse then AE or 3S.
If you are saying I won’t enjoy it due to massive combos, I think that’s a possibility, but it’s not massive combos I hate as much as massive air chains.
If I don’t like KOF, it’s no big deal, I’ll just stick with Arcana for a bit longer, and then go to SC/VF.
Well I “accept” T6 and Gears 3. Wager can stay the same. Since I don’t really play any of the other three I may just MM you in those anyway, but for now T6 and Gears for sure. What are the rules for both?
I don’t play AE or MvC3, but just like I told Jos there’s still a chance I may MM you in those. But for 3S, I accept your wager. Just make sure to have money ready before the start of the match.
The commentary mostly seemed ok. Hero of Time definitely seemed kind of… negative or something, but atleast he had knowledge of the game to talk about what was going on. I dunno, we’re all still new to this so I think it’s kinda unfair to judge people’s commentary like it’s Evo or something, and Demo is like our best commentator so not complaints there. Maybe I’ll try hopping on the mic sometime.
I’ll probably host in Raleigh on Thursday if you wanna come out. Can’t guarantee a lot of AE comp but I’ll play with you and talk shit regardless.
Are you joking me? I can kind of understand you accepting my wager in T6 since I don’t play the game (although the one time we did play I beat you, which is weird), and I understand you taking my wager in Gears 3 since you’ve never seen me play.
But you accepting wills wager for 3s is just crazy, and is why I think your trolling. Also offering to maybe accept wills and my other MM request is ridiculous as I don’t think you’ve ever beat either of us in AE or MvC3 or me in BB.
Let me know if you are ACTUALLY serious. Cus if you are I will actually pick up a char in T6 and practice them a few days to play you. And we can do this gears 3 thing anytime you want if you don’t want to wait for reese and do a non fighting game match at a fighting game tourney. Just let me know.
EDIT: I don’t mean to be rude at all man, I’m just really confused at this money match thing from you. Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever seen you take a set from anyone, in any fighting game, at any casuals or a tournament. There is a reason I’m willing to MM you in T6 a game I’ve played once in the past 6 months, and that once was against you. This is not meant to be insulting, I just mean like - I don’t get throwing your money away.
you dont want my wallbouncing skills in gears 3.
There’s money involved, so yes I’m serious. Not to be rude, but don’t assume you’ve automatically won because of a past performance. That type of thinking can be your downfall. So if you’re done wondering now, what are the rules for T6 and Gears 3?
@Corner-Trap: If you’re wondering the same thing as Jos, I’m dead serious. 3SOE FT5, wager is $50. Do you accept or not?
Of course I accept, or I wouldn’t have offered. What about AE or MvC3?
So you guys are really putting up $250 for gears?
Oh BTW…Sofa…Seeing how you box and all…would you put money up for a fight?
holy shit, ReSe is about to be MM central…lets get hype. SIDEBETS PEOPLE?
I’ll put side money on Will for 3s with odds.
