I personally liked marvel at first, but now I hate it. I play it at tournaments, and I’ll play the week before a tournament a bit to practice so I don’t get blown up. I’m fairly new to this competitive fighting game scene, and marvel is so cheesy easy no think garbage that I can usually do “ok” at tournaments in it. Much better then I’d do at other games.
I know I’ll finish in the top half of the tournament usually, and be able to give the top players at least a match. So I play marvel at tournaments. I’ll be playing BB at tournaments (assuming we are able to create enough interest) and don’t expect to do anywhere near as well as i’ve done in marvel so quickly, because well - it’s a real game and I just don’t simply have the experience. But I want to learn it and get better so I can compete in a few months.
All the while I’ll be playing marvel at tournaments as well, even though I truly do hate the game.
This is key imo. Non capcom games can seem kind of intimidating. I’m sure we’ve all seen a thread with someone asking whether or not they can play a game without having to learn or understand “x”. I saw a Guilty Gear thread once asking which character they should play if they don’t want to have to learn frcs. People do this stuff all the time even if it doesn’t make ‘sense’ because of issues they might have with insecurity or their comfort zones. They might actually RUN to a game like Super or MVC3 thinking that because it has a reputation for being easy or whatever that they can win. That’s why you see so many scrubby shotos online. It’s mostly people who want to win and they want to win easily. That’s why you get ryus who only start throwing fireballs when they’re on their last bit of life. That’s why you see bad Akumas who literally do nothing but fireball and teleport, or set the time to one round/thirty seconds. They’re just desperate for the easiest win they can get. Having to engage the game on a more sophisticated level seems hard or scary so they don’t.
Yes. That’s the point of my post. People say often say things they don’t mean because they don’t want to deal with the hassle of publicly supporting their decisions. Just like the ‘guilty pleasure’ concept. It’s a cheap way to say you like something without having to defend it. Everybody likes to pretend they’re some amazing hardass who doesn’t give a fuck about what people think, but that’s a lie. Humans are incredibly socially conscious. It’s in our genes. Most people are beta as fuck. That’s just the truth.
I know tonnes of people who say they hate Mcdonalds but it eat it anyway. The truth is clear. They don’t actually hate Mcdonalds, they just don’t want to be seen as liking something that’s popular to hate for any number of reasons/complexes. It’s way easier to say ‘oh i only went there because i was running late’ then it is to look in the mirror and say ‘im a slob and I dont really care what i put in my body’. I feel that a completely arbitrary number, say 8/10 people who claim to hate super but play it anyway are no different. This is more sensible than the idea that there are legions of shiftless nerds who can’t be bothered handling business that NEEDS to get done, somehow managing to spend hours of their live daily lives doing something they really hate.
Plenty of people don’t want to support an unpopular opinion, so they go along with whatever they believe everyone else thinks.
Kind of like the point about NC not expanding into other games.
We’ll change all that though, NC 2012, where a man can freely admit that “I dont give a fuck if virtua fighter is deep and balanced, I dont want to think that hard about a videogame” and feel no shame.
It’s popular to hate McDonald’s? That’s news to me considering how many people go there. I thought my opinion was unpopular. Well on the reason why I posted here. I was wondering if any of you here could provide some advice on hosting a tourney. I’m trying to get 1 up in the W-S, Kville area and I was wondering what things should I consider?
Just like how so many people say Street Fighter 4 is scrubby or bad, right? Same thing. Anyway, things will invariably happen. Things will always take longer than you think your first time. Don’t forget that.
Seriously, I doubt we’ll get more then 5 people for a VF5FS tourney. I’ll be one of them though (if I can make it- and I like VF enough that I’ll make an effort for it)
Ultimately- you gotta like something though. Or else you end up not really playing anything. That’s why I’m playing Arcana right now.
This is another good thing about online- if you like something but your scene won’t play it, at least with online you can play it.
I actually liked ssf4, not love but I liked it. I feel like most people who play ssf4 have a like/hate relationship with it. Another reason I played is because its really the only “new” 2d game where its mostly a ground game and you cant jump for free, well theirs MK too but I really dislike the art direction in that game. I’m sure when a new ground based game like KOF comes out the number of people playing ssf4 will probably decrease.
Hey I ate McDonalds today…uhoh I would love to play some VF5FS when it comes out. I’m a long time VF fan and look fowaqrd to its release.I p[layed FS in the Arcade its by far the best VF yet. I will still play new Capcom games ,but I’m not devoting hours upon hours in training mode or online with them. They just lack content and over all feel very copy pasta at the moment. BBCS2,BBBR,AH3,Yatagarasu,shit I’ll play Phantom Breaker and Aqua Pazza if I could.
I feel you, but I believe that the MVC3 move animation has a lot to do with Marvel wanting the characters to be true to the comics. As far as animation, lets take a look at the standing/crouching animations for characters in mvc3…yeah they look bad. They almost don’t move, some of them. Trish/She-Hulk/Dante and a few others seem to just stand there staring off into space lifelessly until you move. The moves look cool, but then again they are moves, they should look cool. This is what I mean by Bare Bones content. They give you just the bare essentials for a FG’s animation. In this light Capcom games have taken a HUGE step backwards IMO. As far as SF4, its a mixe3d bag some look cool and other look very odd like Chun-Li’s strange arm movements and such. Also the animation for the characters in the back ground is horrid. They don’t even have fingers lol their hands are fussed together like they are wearing snow mittens. Come on now,it’s 2011/2012, why is this even an issue with the power available at the hands of current developers??? I could go on and on about the lack luster BGM and such but I’ll stop here, yall get point.
