Actually I like it. Look at Gouken, Bison and Rose. All back from the dead yet they have no signs that they actually died. This version of Charlies shows the hell he has been thru. It gives his character more than just Guile’s mentor/Clone. Where has he been all this time? Why is he fighting again? Who made him this way? Is he under someones control or is he free out for revenge? So many questions. The changes are very positive from story and gameplay aspect. Since he is so different in future versions of SF5 it gives Guile a chance to show up.
With them taking the risks of changing Charlie like this, which I think is cool, it gives me hope that they will do this some more returning characters. Like Sakura for example, if she does come back, has to sport a new look.
Bison’s body looks pretty dif in each version lol, He was all roided up in Alpha, then gets all toned and slick looking in SF2 then dies and gets kind of roided up again in SF4. Gouken never died actually, he just went into a near death coma (a pretty cheesy explanation I know but that’s FGs for ya. All soap opera.) Rose never died, she’s passed out a bunch of times and had Guy save her. I think she almost dies in the SF4 ending though. She actually can’t die because if she dies Bison dies too and unlike Bison she doesn’t have a backup body to transfer her soul into or anything like that (how bison keeps from truely dying). Until Bison reabsorbs her half of the soul they share she and him are intertwined, if one actually dies so will the other. M. Bison never “died” by SF definition (body died but I guess he transfers his soul before hand? I dunno)
Basically to sum up: SF pulls a bunch of stuff out of their ass lol.
I’m wondering when Gen will actually DIE, he’s been like “near death” for at least ~4-6 years by SF4 era.
I also wonder if SF5 will actually have a date for it’s setting. SF1 2 and 3 All took place during their respective release years. SF 1 ~1987-88. SF2 ~1992-1993. SF3 ~1998-1999. SFAlpha and SF4 were midquels with SFAlpha taking place ~1988-1990 and SF4 taking place ~1994-1995 (got love C. Viper having a more modern cell phone though :P)
I wonder if SF5 will be ~2001-2002 post SF3 or maybe 1996-1997 to fill in the gap between SF4 and SF5 or if they’ll just drop the dates entirely.
Only reason I bring it up is cause of the question of how long Nash might have been missing since he goes missing at end of Alpha. Has he been gone more than 10 years? Not that the series has any sort of actual sense of time lol.
i like the way he turned out. unfortunately, the game looks just as slow as before, especially normals. i really hope it’s not too late for them to speed everything up. at this point it seems like a design decision they want to stick with but i hope i’m wrong.
Anyone still hope Guile will be in this game? I do, just for the storyline that could play out between him and Charlie. It could finally be a story that I care about with real emotion behind it, what with Guile seeing his fallen partner revived and turned into this. There’s plenty of potential now to make the two characters distinct from each other movewise too.
Still, with a small roster size I don’t know if Guile will make it.
Meh, Charlie looks like he plays like Decapre, and I don’t like her playstyle one bit.
Also, SFV seems very combo heavy right now. If they want to get more people into the game, linking needs to be easier.

Bison uses a completely new body everytime so it doesnt show and trauma from past battles. Gouken took a huge beating from Akuma and everything thought he was dead. So much so he disappeared for years. Yet he doesnt show any trauma from the event. Rose is shows nothing from past events. This new Charlie shows trama and psychosis from what happened to him. He’s entire personality has changed, he is threating Chun Li to get out of his way or he will kill her. The Charlie of the past would of never spoken to anyone like that. This is the first time that a character has completely changed personalities compared to any other characters that have shared a similar experience. I love it!
I’m usually against all this early access and preorder bullshit because companies just want to save Q&A money and stress test for free, but in this case it might mean we get a better game so I’m not even mad. Give Eternal beta access.
Well didn’t Gouken get that big scar on his head after the Shun Goku? (I dunno if he had it before) Besides I thought that Shun Goku was more an attack on your psyche/soul than anything physical but I could be wrong so that’s a fair point that he didn’t really get that badly damaged. (Keep in mind that this bloody mess is from the always non-canon Udon comics.)
Rose never really got harmed that badly physically. Nothing that would make her like lose a limb or anything, just knocked out fighting Bison who then tries to mess with her mind.
Nash however was in the Shadoloo base with Bison when it exploded. That’s probably the biggest trauma of all I can see him losing an arm and half his face in that. Bison’s new body stuff is pretty giant Dues Ex BS though. They use that cheat all the time with Bison. /godmode /noclip /respawn
really liked the new one and I agree, lighting is much worse. Will hopefully change though
