It’s a mess up on Kishi’s part…originally Oro summons 1, 2, and tries to get the 4th out but the 3rd stops him…then when the 3rd is sealing souls, it’s stated that will bring them rest so that they can’t be summoned like that.
Now advance years later to the 4th’s flashback arc, we learn that he apparently sealed himself in the same manner, making it so that he can’t be Edo’d.
…basically, Kishi forgot. Go figure. (and if I’m misunderstanding this all, pls correct me.)

I think you’re misunderstanding that we have no idea who was being summoned in the other coffin, the 4th thing was anime only (as stated 100’s of times over the 9 threads we’ve had)
It’s also possible that Kishi meant to imply it was the 4th, then retconned this later by making the 4th un summonable.
A more ninja like answer is that Oro out yomid the third by pretending to resurrect the 4th with an empty coffin, and the 3rd got so scared he wasted all his energy countering something that was just a feint letting the 1st and 2nd come out untouched. I mean if you know that the 3rd can counter your summons, why not be prepared?
Also, this war thing could be pretty hype, hopefully we dont get a bunch of offpanel fights and deaths
Plus Kishi won’t pull a Rescue Sasuke arc and magically save everyone; the story is ending and the deaths can happen now without limiting where he can go in the future.
And why is the long range fighters division full of people who can’t fight at long range? Chouji and Shiki?
Kabuto is ridiculously broken. The only way it would make any sense for Akatsuki to lose now would be to kill Kabuto so Edo Tensei would be shut down. Seriously, Zombie Jinchuriki? Zombie Nagato, and Itachi alone could body everyone. Zombie Kage’s? Everyone else is like insult to injury. Another thing, people keep forgetting that Edo Tensei does not use the body of the dead, it uses the soul. You can use any old dead persons body as a vessel for the soul. Edo Tensei’d people also have broken regeneration skills. They cannot be destroyed unless the one who summoned them has his/her chakra cut somehow. I cannot see the Joint ninja force winning without some kind of bullshit, this should be rape for Madara and friends. Fuck a 7-3 match-up this is more like 9-1.

The theory is that the soul brings back the person’s original skillset, no matter what happened to the physical body. They’re not even the original bodies anyway. If that were the case, the First wouldn’t have been able to use wood jutsu when he was brought back.

From what we know of Itachi and his skills, he can body 90% of the Naruto universe without sharingan. And that was while sick and doped up on medicine to extend his life. He’s not slowed down by being sick now that he’s “dead” and back with a fresh body that won’t be holding back abilities. Same for Kimmi. Madara only has one Rinnegan visible. Perhaps Nagato still posses one?

I like seeing the Konoha kids in their proper ninja jackets. It was always kinda weird to have pretty much every other ninja wearing them. It also stresses that this is a war and there’s no time to play dress-up.

Why make Gaara general if you can have a strategic genius such as Shikamaru?
Zetsu’s discussion with Sasuke hints that the Eien no Mangekyou Sharingan grants more than just eternal eyesight.
Because Gaara isn’t exactly an idiot himself, and has his strength and title as a Kage on top of that.
I think that, considering his lack of rep, being Gaara’s proxy, and the (unofficial)General of Division 4 says quite a lot.
