You don’t need to tinker, Itachi is way smarter than pretty much everyone. Nagato’s eyes give him the potential to learn and use any technique, but he wasn’t smart enough to realize that he was just a puppet being used until the very end where he was like oh shit, I fucked up, let me bring all your friends back to life Naruto to try to redeem myself for all the dumb shit I did. Itachi is even smarter than Madara because in the end Sasuke will live and Madara will die and Itachi will roll over in his grave and say just as planned.
Exactly my point i made prior when that was brought up. If it was as simple as genjutsu used one one= used on all, then “killing” one pein should take him out. Since genjutsu is an attack on the mind and all, then the genjutsu attacks to kill the 3 he did know of should have “killed” the others.
And i don’t like tinkering with surroundings to much, cuz then you deviate from the source material and go into what you would have done if you personally have written it.
And unreal i don’t know what exactly you’re trying to say on the first half of what you wrote. Open land with foliage would probably be the last place to fight pein. Cuz he would be that much more effective in hiding the wheelchair. And summons probably be better in less open areas as well, being able to sneak up or what have you. To b e honest the splitting up dog summon i don’t really see itachi taking out.
itachi could prob wave his hand and catch all 6 peins in a genjitsu. Also could the pein body absorb the black flame? I ask because once it absorbed the sage chakra he was turned into stone. also itachi could easy have put that pein in a genjutsu and delt with the others. The blade that complements the armor is the real deal breaker. provided he hits a pein with it even the jutsu eating one its GG…
Lets not for get itachi also fought with shadow clones, exploding jutsu/genjutsu using shadow clones… its really not fair. Not only that he’s one the smartest Nin we’ve be introduced to in the manga.
I mean kikashi killed one, J killed 3 I have a hard time seeing itachi not being able to deal with all 6 even not know there secret.

I thought all the “peins” were connected through Chakara receptors to the original Pein’s body only, not through the mind. Maybe thats why the Genjutsu only effected the pein it was cast upon. When Pein shot Naruto in the belly with that chakara rod they didnt share a mental link, that I am aware of, the rod was supposed to restrict Naruto’s movements though peins ability to control what ever the rod is touching.
IDK maybe Im missing something. As for Itachi vs Pein, I think its a toss up. I would like to believe that Itachi would figure out Peins secrete and then search for the original and then end it. But Jiraiya , who was no slouch, didnt figure it out till it was too late. I like Itachi over Pein but not by a big enough margin that it would be a total blow out.
overall then ok itachi is smart as hell. Long term planning ftw. MAdara or whoever will be ultimate final villian will be best though.
J-man’s genjutsu was all audio, the real slim peiny only sees what the other bodies do. if the other peins were in ear shot to heard the genjutsu J-man would have won.
now taking it back to the six paths jutsu [six sets of eyes] and pewpew eye genjutsu counter pick…
Itachi should be able to lock all Peins by getting one visually or any one Path with his finger point genjutsu provided…
- nagato’s personal chakra isn’t auto negating incoming chakra inputs [not that it can’t be used to]
- nagato’s personal chakra is running low [just used gravity jutsu so ebb and flow]
- nagato’s Path jutsu’s chakra rods respond to any chakra [naruto says they do]
ie Pein’s Paths jutsu is weak to visual genjutsu, but audio genjutsu could take them [if present] all at once.
If Itachi knew Pein’s secret… he’d just Genjutsu the paper girl into getting the job done. but that’s a different fight entirely.
i’m inclined to think Pein with out his paths jutsu was far more powerful but less protected and thus killable.
we only see one path using an elemental chakra, nagato could use all. the strength of his secret is what made his paths jutsu so dangerous. that and the combination of jutsu types he focused on.
I see it convincingly going either way as Itachi needs to out last a few deadly jutsu to learn what he’s dealing with, or get an effective genjutsu in the mix. With all six paths present, Itachi has his work cut out but has a better chance to stop all offense. In waves, Itachi doesn’t use genjutsu, runs low on chakra, then dies.
IMHO, if Konan is present… like the J-man fight, Itachi would use genjutsu to win.
being all audo means nothing its just the means to how the genjutsu affect the target : the mind
so if the ultimate sound genjutsu didn’t affect all, then there is no conclusive evidence that tsuki’ing one pein would work on all.
but all genjutsu effect the mind… 
or nervous/chakra system into the mind… still Nagato sees what the Paths see. It’s part of the six Path Jutsu deal. If a genjutsu is sent through the eye into a path then nagato can be effected because he sees the same thing.
the whole meaning behind Nagato’s praise to J-man was that if he had used the sound genjutsu on Nagato, [or all 6 paths at once] he could have killed him [if not just stop them]

i’m assuming tsuki’ing is his finger point genjutsu which should still merc nagato, just not necessarily the other Paths since nagato could push charka back into them. however if they transmit what they see back to nagato… we’re back to the same problem.
