the only person with teh byakugan that encountered pain was hinata and she was too busy getting her shit ruined to give us any insight.
pain wasn’t controlling the paths like a puppet so there’d be no “strings”. any sensor ninja should be able to track pain down provided they figured out his jutsu and wasn’t getting their shit ruined by him since he was essentially emitting chakra waves to his bodies…admittedly a tall order though.
remember, some people believed that the sharingan may have been derived from the byakugan (dumbasses like kakashi), when the truth was the complete opposite. byakugan is more like a scope, you can see the pores of motherfuckers and nins at a far distance. sharingan is way above just some binocler shit.
Uhh, there was another Byakugan user that was scoping that shit with his binoculars. No strings or trace of chakra floating around. Naruto was a sensor ninja in sage mode. You’d think he’d be able to sense a massive chakra coming from somewhere close without stabbing himself. Yet, he had to stab himself in order to detect this…super…secret…chakra…shit. He guessed the shit might work after getting Nagatos eyes in his head after being stabbed on the ground outside of sage mode.
I mean just thinking about it characters sense massive amounts of chakra all the time who aren’t sensors, yet dude was pumping enough chakra to level Konoha through the air without any detection. I think my colorful description of Nagatos super secret chakra stands.

sensors sense chakra, they don’t necessarily see it. and hinata was the only byakugan that saw pain in the manga (correct me if i’m wrong). but assuming that the cat that she was with wasn’t anime only, for all he and hinata knew the pain that hinata fought was the real pain, so they had no reason to try scanning the area for the source which happened to be miles away outside their range anyway…
Here’s a panel showing a Byakugan-user watching the Naruto vs. Pain showdown in the manga. Here he is again, talking to Sakura about how Naruto took out one of Pain’s bodies in a single blow. I’m not about to get into the whole debate, but there was another Byakugan-user there to witness the fight.

I don’t think Byakugan is like a predator mask, shit just sees shit, or at least it should see SOMETHIN. With all the “whats the source of pains power” shit going on and little maggots telling people something is up. That was some really super secret wierdo ultra chakra shit going on. Actually now that I look back Mr. Neji saw pein as well. He just didn’t fight him because he was told that he’s fodder.

Madara has a young face…apparently…oh noes what hax is he now, also its mentioned that he somehow ‘gave’/‘activated’ the rinnegan in the first place. I dunno…but the whol issue is Konan verse Madara…and it doesn’t even conclude.

I think someone activating the rinnengan is a good explanation for it. I mean, it’s been a fuckton of generations before those eyes were even seen again. Suddenly they’re in play when someone wants to use the Gedo statue to pull together all of the tailed beasts.

Madara asks Konan the reason for her betrayal. Is Naruto really worth it?
Konan says Naruto is the light, the flower of hope for everyone.
Konan is hostile towards Madara.
Madara: Fighting with me wearing that cloak, does it mean you still can’t let go.
Konan: Yahiko created the Akatsuki. The red clouds on this cloak are the symbol of war that caused rain of blood to pour down in Amegakure. Even if you had taken over the Akatsuki, this cloak still represents our justice. It’s not yours. The Rinnegan was activated by Nagato in Amegakure, it’s not yours either. His eyes are the precious asset of this country, of this village.
Konan’s paper shurikens pass through Madara’s body.
Madara: It’s I who made Yahiko create the Akatsuki. It’s I who gave Rinnegan to Nagato. It’s only right that I take them back. All I have to do now is capture you.
The fight begins.
Konan attacks with a massive amount of papers so that she can seize on the moment when Madara materializes.
Even though Konan has the plan in mind, Madara realizes it and is looking for the opportunity to absorb her.
Konan attaches exploding tags to her papers, ready to sacrifice herself to kill Madara
Flashback begins.
It’s not long after Akatsuki was founded. Konan is reporting to Yahiko about the members’ defeat.
Both Yahiko and Nagato are injured and bandaged up.
There are Yahiko, Nagato, Konan and a few others present.
Nagato: I’ll recon this afternoon.
Yahiko: Let me do it. You need some rest. Don’t push yourself too hard.
Yahiko asks Konan who comes to send him off to take a good care of Nagato.
Yahiko: Konan, Nagato will be the man to change the world. You should put all your mind on him.
Konan: The same goes for you. Everyone follows you because we admire you. So does Nagato.
Yahiko: He will be the bridge to peace. I’m only a supporting pillar of the bridge. This country is always weeping, and I’m tired of it. Now I want to save it from weeping. I really do. I can’t forsake a crybaby like myself.
Yahiko leaves, still grumbling.
After seeing Yahiko off, Konan returns to join Nagato and other members.
Nagato: The bridge to peace should be him. This should be what he meant…
We will always believe in Yahiko. Nagato orders, “let’s go, everyone”. Then he follows after Yahiko.
“I want to become the supporting pillars for the two bridges which are Yahiko and Nagato,” Konan decides.
Flashback ends.
The exploded paper and cloth are scattered about. We see a little of Madara’s face as his mask has broken. He has also lost his right arm.
He says to Konan who is right before him, seemingly not with as many injuries, “I underestimated you, after all you were also once a member of Akatsuki.”
"You intended to explode the both of us, but thanks to the fact that I sucked in a little of the explosion, both of us are safe"
In response to Madara’s question if she’s exhausted her secret plans, Konan says that she has a question for Madara. "Do you know why you were betrayed by us?"
Madara: Who knows?
Konan uses secret arts as she yells "You are darkness, a flower can only wilt in a world without light!"
The lake? sea? all becomes paper, and spreads just like the Red Sea did for Moses, and she tries to drop Madara into it… next chapter!
